Coaching search: Coaches in bowl games

There are 70 coaches preparing their teams for bowl games right now. Some of them should certainly be considered for the CU job. I have identified those who I believe CU could go after in green. Those in red are probably beyond CU's means.

Interesting list.

Rhodes
Taggart
Freeze
Hudspeth

That would be my list from those. I really doubt you are going to get Freeze out of an SEC gig, though.

Well done. Rep just for the amount of work required to put that together. I personally am biased to HCs who had at least 8 wins this year.

At one point I heard Riley could be looking for greener pastures and was a hot prospect. He would be awesome with his Pac 12 roots and turnaround of OSU.

Should probably make Chryst red - his buyout is $6MM. We're definitely not going there.

Rocky Long would be a good coach if he was interested. My dad played for him while Rocky was the defensive backs coach at Wyoming and he said Rocky Long was one of the smartest coaches he has ever met. And my dad grew up with Chuck and John Pagano.

Mike Riley is my favorite coach on that lost, but he is not leaving Oregon State.

Rich Rod is a steal for what he's making. If it wasn't his first year, I would have loved to see us make a run at him.

I would have disagreed with you before, stating that our defense would be ruined. However, since it can't get any worse, Rich Rod would be a defensive savior at this point.

Saw Ruffin McNeil on the list... you know that guy lost a whole Mangino over the last year or so. Had some gastric bypass action.

Congratulations to him.

He's my favorite on the list too - too bad it's not happening, I don't even know if we could throw enough money at him (and have him put 100% into it - internally he would know he was a mercenary).

You're right, we couldn't throw enough money at him. Dude loves Corvallis

I don't know-doubling your salary to go from Corvalis to Boulder is not a bad play for most people. I like Corvalis but Boulder is cooler and with better access to a bigger city.

But, he's probably not leaving (more likely OSU would restructure his contract if we came knocking).

Boyd, Riley grew up in Corvallis and was a star high school athlete there. It is home and he loves it there.

So with rumor circulating that Bohn is going for a home-run, splash, big name, pick your adjective phrase current coach, I decided to peruse this list again, and decide what seems possible. Keeping in mind that Beliema seemed wedded to Wisconsin 1 week ago, so... Basically, my only criteria in this were Salary <$3MM, hasn't signed an extension this year, and either in a BCS conference or has been a "BCS buster" lately. Also kicked out Snyder, Pelini and Kelly - even though they met those criteria.

Chris Peterson
Dabo Sweeney
David Cutcliffe
Will Muschamp
Jimbo Fisher
Mark Richt
Paul Johnson
Paul Rhodes
Charlie Strong
Mark Dantonio
Jerry Kill
Hugh Freeze
Dan Mullen
Pat Fitzgerald
Brian Kelly
Mike Riley
Paul Chryst
Doug Marrone
James Franklin
Frank Beamer
Steve Sarkisian
Dana Holgerson

These next names are from the above list (with one obvious exception), but fall into a "for various random reasons skibum thinks they might able to be lured to Boulder:"

Chris Peterson
Dan Mullen
Pat Fitzgerald
Dana Holgerson
Mark Richt
Al Golden

The only really new name on my list that hasn't been thrown out there by anyone yet (I think) is Holgerson - for some reason I could see him wanting out of hillbilly U.

I like Ault at Nevada.

I thought Taggert was picked up (USF?). ESPN guys were saying that was the steal of the year.

Ault is old as s**t and has been coaching at Nevada since the 1970's, if he had ever wanted to leave he would have done it a while ago.
