They actually gave a shout out to Allbuffs a few times this morning and had the most reasonable discussion on the CU situation I have heard in a while.

I have bashed Frei some on here, but I can respect his viewpoint.

Yep - I was running errands and listening and really enjoyed the entire show.

It was funny to me when somebody asks Terry a question he clearly doesnt know the answer to. He bumbles around with some rambling answer that doesnt actually answer any question the caller had

Cecil Whammy was just on ESPN Radio and talking about CU. He was stating that Colorado should and needs to own recruiting in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. I pretty much agree. There aren't a ton of huge prospects across those three states, but Colorado could probably fill 1/3 of its class each year with quality guys from all 3 states combined.

what they say about allbuffs?/

They were talking about the leak and new media and how all that worked - but they noted that Allbuffs had really great coverage throughout the week, and that we (aka the users) did a really excellent job, especially compared to some 'other' sites.

Can I take that as a compliment by implication?

I really don't think it's worth the time traveling across Wyoming and Montana (two of our country's states with the most square mileage) for how many DI prospects actually come out of them. Compared to east coast states, Colorado already is way bigger geographically to have to travel around. Yes, California and Texas are bigger size wise, but they are also way bigger population wise, so there's a bigger payoff in the amount of prospects.

Cecil needs to rethink his plan. Colorado is the only state that CU should focus on trying to lock down. They should get the bulk of their recruits from Colorado, Texas, and California. Also, they should regularly pull recruits from other western states, keeping a close eye on Arizona and Hawaii.

Interesting that Cecil Lammey would be an authority on anything but fantasy NFL football. I agree about locking down the Colorado prospects, but it has always been tough to do. Too many transplants in Colorado to expect that all kids want tomstay in state or even prefer to stay in state. But wyoming and montana? How much time and resources do you want to expend here vs texas or cali?

I was driving home earlier and listening to the Portland Sports radio. I am not even sure which guys it was since I usually don't listen on the weekend.

They talked about how poorly Brett Bielema handled his exit from Wisconsin. Going into break they said they'd talk about a coach the did it the right way when they got back. Of course, they come back and talk about how classy Butch Jones was and how he kept a bunch of his players in the loop and talked to them about his decisions. I am not prone to yelling at the radio but I made an exception.

They think we should get Petrino.

Montana? Wyoming? Really?

The great news is that nobody else recruits those states hard, the bad news is they don't because there aren't enough guys they to be worth the time.

I don't know that CU will ever "lock down" Colorado. As mentioned before we have way to many transplants here, both players and coaches. It also doesn't help that CU is basically an afterthought in media coverage after the Broncos so kids don't get saturated like they do other places.

We do need to get at least a significant majority of the best kids from Colorado. Wyoming does produce a few decent kids who are above the MWC level but most of them end up as fuskers if they are good enough to play this level.

We should do better than we do in New Mexico. That is a state that has produced a number of very good players over the years and CU has gotten very few kids out of there.

With all that if we aren't recruiting well in Cali and Texass we won't win, simple as that. We also need to get kids from Hawaii, Washington, and pull some kids from the east coast as well if we want to succeed.

There isn't enough talent in Colorado to win without going elsewhere and we can't dominate other places so we have to go national.

The best D1 prospects in Colorado are offensive linemen. Based on my limited sample size and the use of extrapolation, out of the 10 best ones over a 5 year period, it breaks down like this:

Group A: 4 kids will have their dream school wherever their parents grew up rooting for the home team. (2 of these will be Husker fans, 1 a Buckeye or Wolverine, etc)

Group B: 2 kids will have no dream school, but consider themselves farm boys and they despise the Liberal University in Boulder.

Group C: 4 kids will be open to CU, assuming they don't get a better offer.

If CU can climb up the ladder of relevancy, then we got a shot at locking up a kid or two from Group A and the kids from Group C.

Something like 50% is our ceiling.
