Candidate A is Les Miles, hire him now.

Candidate B is Nick Saben, hire him yesterday.

Please pick less obvious candidates.

I picked those 2 on purpose because I believe them to be among the very best college coaches alive.

That year at Toledo for Candidate "B" looks awfully suspect.

I awoke yesterday morning (my dog was restless) and I was in the middle of a dream. At the very moment that I was awakened I had been looking at the front page of the Denver Post that read in large BOLD letters:

MILES TO COME HOME!

I am not a fan of Les Miles, but I woke up excited. Checked the internet to see if it was true, and then resorted to kicking the dog.
How I long for the days when I woke up excited in a different way!

Saban is tops, but no way is Miles in the top two. Hell he's lucky to be top 5. Here are 4 more than are better the Les

Bill Snyder
Urban Meyer
Chip Kelly
Bob Stoops

I've been one of the more ardent supporters of digging into each candidate to see what we really have. That's because I learn from my mistakes.

I was one of the biggest advocates of hiring the great Dan Hawkins. Hindsight is 20/20.

Of course, other than guys like Saban, few candidates will satisfy every question. So that's why you have the interview process. I had some concerns with BJ's proven track record, but I can see how his personality would overcome those concerns in an interview. I was on board with the guy 100% and think he will be a great coach at TN. Probably every coach we will seriously have a shot at will have a question mark or two.

It's the committee's job to vet these out and at least make an informed decision this time.

Meh, on both candidates. They both feel a little too Hawkins-esque. Also, Candidate A's time as an NFL tight ends coach should be a warning.

Pass.

Man! You just blew my faith in humanity! You mean these guys had to start as assistants and lower level HCs?

I thought Miles and Saban were both BORN head coachs at BCS schools and just floated among the best offers from one SEC school to another SEC school (I use the term "school" very loosely when referring to the SEC).

Now I'm gonna run off and apply to law school!
