Coach Mac's most important task this spring? Transfers

We need them, badly. It sounds like a number of key players from last years class are going to try and transfer out. Hopeful Coach MacIntyre can convince some of them to stay. But our depth on defense is downright awful.:

DB

Jered Bell (Junior)
Kenneth Crawley (Soph - transfer candidate)
Jeffrey Hall (Fresh - transfer candidate)
Sherrard Harrington (Soph)
Greg Henderson (Junior)
Marques Mosley (Soph)
Josh Moten (Junior)
Parker Orms (Senior)
Terrel Smith (Senior)
John Walker (Fresh)
Yuri Wright (Soph - transfer candidate)

LB

Brady Daigh (Junior)
Paul Vigo (Senior)
Kyle Washington (Junior)
Derrick Webb (Senior)
Woodson Greer (Junior)
KT Tu'umalo (Junior)
Lowell Williams (Junior)

We might limp through next season with this, but we've only got 2 LB commits this cycle, and no commits for the secondary.

I think Coach MacIntyre's should be looking for transfers - not so much for 2013, but for 2014.

Thinking one of Wright and Crawley leave so it'd be nice if we could pick up a JuCo DB to take their place. For LB, we need a couple JuCo's.

I hope the new staff at least considers moving Norgard to the defensive side of the ball. I'd say "back to," but Embree decided he was moved to FB before he even enrolled. It looks like we could use the extra depth on defense, and I feel like Wood can handle the FB position for the meantime, and Powell can also fill in as well, especially if we start to use a quicker back more often or go with more multi-back sets.

That LB unit looks scary and not in a good way. Mac needs to secure more than Jimmie Gilbert and George Frazier.

Don't care if we have yuri or crawley next year. Running shows a pretty bright yellow streak up there back. Cowards won't get us out of this mix. I'll be concerned about the guys that are here who want to rep the B&G. Not the guys that want to turn tail & run. Like P-Rich said.

Our LB's do look a little depleted but moving Norgaard back over should help with depth at least. I am willing to bet our D improves over 40 spots from last year just based on the fact that our offense shouldn't be nearly as bad at controlling the ball.

Do not bag on players.

EXACTLY!!

And other than Crawley's tweet (which was right after firing when he was likely pretty emotional) how do you figure a guy like Yuri wants to transfer? I've heard nothing about that. And I would honestly still expect Crawley to be here next year. Let the new staff get here, talk to him and see what they have to offer. Plus he would be walking away from a starting spot on a BCS level team/conference which seems like a really bad career move if he desires going to the NFL. Additionally he is from California and will not be eligible to play again in the Pac12 for 2 full years if he transfers to a school in that area of the country.... meaning he would have to go to SEC, Big12 or Big10 to play before 2014. And lets be honest he has some great skill but he aint sitting out a year and walking in as a starter at a place like Ohio State, Michigan, ALabama etc.

I'm not worried about a bunch of guys transferring. Mac will be here for 3 years minimum and if they leave they'd have to move their crap, transfer, get used to a new school, leave friends etc. Besides, why wouldn't they want to be here when we go from 1-11 to 8-4 in 3 years...you heard it here first

I'm not talking about outgoing transfers, I'm talking about incoming transfers. We need some.

Gotcha! Could be right. I wish the admin would change things to make JUCOs easier to get. Embo said we COULDN'T get them in...not that it was difficult.

It is mostly majors. We need to get majors that help credits transfer from a JC (PE, GE)

In the end not a lot of guys will transfer, a few will but that is normal. I hope that Crawley and Wright stay and in the end think they will.

Norgaard to D is a no brainer. The pistol offense isn't exactly a big user of the FB and I have always thought Norgaard would be a better contributor on D.

Even if nobody transfers out we are going to be beyond thin in terms of talent. What "may" help us is that we had a number of guys last year who were either playing with some injuries that slowed them down a lot or were coming off major injuries in the prior year. Lots of times those guys take some time to come back fully so we may see some guys step up and perform at a higher level than last year.

To be honest, I would not mind getting some of those transfers from SanJst. there are some pretty talented players, recruits, and JC transfers...

We need all the depth we can get at this point. I agree that guys like Crawley and Wright have a lot of potential. That said, in a normal situation, they could have red-shirted or played some nickle and special teams last year rather than get thrown in the fire. They were both exposed a lot last year. I would expect a lot of improvement this year but we need competition at those positions whether they transfer or not.
