Pinstripe bowl

WVU, Holgerson, and Geno Smith could be the most overhyped group in a long time! Remember earlier in the season. Somebody shoot the media.

Umm, tell me again...why?

No doubt there's too many bowl games but as long as the networks are willing to televise them, they'll continue to have them. This is the first time I have seen the yard lines super-imposed on TV. And yea, this is what the Super Bowl could look like next year.

The Syracuse offense has come alive in the 2nd half.

i actually enjoyed the hell out of watching a bowl game in the snow.

i have no problem with this game.

I don't get highly involved but I do enjoy watching a lot of these bowls. It's fun to see some of the matchups and some of the games are pretty entertaining to watch.

Pretty simple concept about the bowls. If people didn't watch the TV networks (mostly ESPN for the minor bowls) wouldn't pay for the rights to put them on. The bowl system is in place and stays in place because the powers that be like the money they make from them.

You can argue that they would make more from a playoff but the people who's money is involved don't agree.

I live in New York, and would have tried to see this game if I wasn't saving up for a wedding. We're starved for good college football here.

The Yanks are doing a good job of trying to broaden the spectrum of what is offered at the Stadium. I was lucky to catch Chelsea v Paris St. Germain and Real Madrid v AC Milan this summer. I am all for college football at the Stadium.

Started with that 70 point game against Clemson. Everybody forgot about half of last season where WVU looked a lot like they did today.

I have a problem with 70 teams being in bowl games. It's asinine. Should be 40...50 max. It's only in the last 5-10 years that bowls had to go XTREME and let every 6-6 (2-6) team into the Playtex Bowl in Tampon, Iowa.

There's definitely too many bowl games but I enjoy the games between BCS teams. It's the games like Ohio-LaMonroe, Western Kentucky-Central Michigan or UCF-Ball State that are the ridiculous ones.

I'm fully supportive of keeping the Peach Bowl, Cotton Bowl type non-BCS games. Those are great and what bowl games should be: rewards for teams that have good seasons. A 10-2 Clemson vs 10-2 LSU is what bowl games should be, not 6-6 Ball State vs 6-7 Middle Tennessee State.

I agree that these 6-6 bowl games are ridiculous. That is, of course, until CU finishes 6-6; then that bowl game will be the best idea ever.

Unless that 6-6 team playing in the bowl comes from Boulder. After the past bunch of crap seasons we would pee ourselves if we managed to get into the New Mexico Bowl next year.

Agree that there are to many bowl games and teams that shouldn't get in do but they make money (not a lot but enough to be worth continuing) and the kids get a fun experience. The fans get to say that their team got to a bowl and some tourist dollars get spread around.

And I'd still rather watch some insignificant bowl game than golf, reality shows, or soccer.

It is what it is. If CU gets into a bowl game at 6-6, I'd cheer them on and be as supportive as I am in any other game. However, that doesn't change the fact that this system is asinine and there are way too many bowl teams, and a 6-6 (3-6) CU team would exemplify that. If they said they were limiting the bowl teams to 40 or 50 starting next season, I wouldn't be crying just because it might prevent a mediocre CU team from bowling in a coming season. We can use the stupid system to our advantage, but it doesn't mean the system isn't ridiculous and shouldn't be changed.

i like golf but i agree that there are way too many bowl games. i'd like to see bowl eligible at 7 wins and not 6. i do sort of like for the fans how a bowl game against a strange opponent brackets off the season's success and loss....with a one time shot at a new opponent. shot at redemption for the L's, some pleasure in the season's better moments.
gRice and AFA was kind of a fun football matchup. for instance. UT v. Beaver OSU.

i'm a total playoff advocate but i like the holiday feelgood of the lesser bowls.

and yes i would pee myself for the NM Bowl.

the biggest advantage to going to a minor bowl is you continue to PRACTICE.. unlike cu

This is a good point.

Although I watch some of the minor bowls and enjoy them I would have no problem with reducing the number of bowls. I would also support requiring 7 wins to get in and requiring those wins to be legit wins, no FCS schools, no playing the complete OOC schedule at home against a bunch of directionals (looking at you Nebraska and half of the SEC,) make getting to a bowl a legitimate accomplishment.

At the same time the extra practices give the bowl qualifiers an unfair advantage over those who don't qualify perpetuating the imbalance in college football.

Maybe you give the non-qualifiers some end of season practices or some extra time in spring practice.

Personally, I think the NCAA should allow non bowl teams to have a certain number of practices during the bowl season.

I'm still trying to understand what having them all hurts. I see them as a building tool for teams to get better. Get a little better, get to a lower tier bowl, get the extra practices and publicity, use them to make your program better. You really think Boise St. gets that good that fast without the extra practice and visibility?

Too many **** teams and **** games. Half of the D1 teams shouldn't be in a bowl game.

Nobody makes anyone watch the games. I agree that there are to many games but it isn't something I care enough about to worry about.

I would argue that we have to many teams in FBS and we have to many FBS teams fattening up their record with teams that don't belong on the field against them (or at least shouldn't belong) playing money games.

In the world of college FB bad bowl games are a pretty minor issue compared to some others out there. If the system is going to be what it is what is wrong with a 7-5 team that won the Sun Belt going to some minor bowl to get beat by the second place team in the MAC or C-USA. The fans from each school will have a good time and nobody else will care once the bets are paid off.

Yeah, I never understood this line of bellyaching. It's bonus college football. Don't like the matchup? Don't watch. I like watching ball games and these games let me see teams I normally wouldn't watch on a regular Saturday. Not to mention the extra practices and opportunities for coaching clinics in new locations with HS and pop Warner coaches, FCA breakfasts and other events.

I like watching the bowls too. If and when a true playoff system gets implemented, I'm hoping the bowls will become important and mean something more than just extra practices and a good time for the fans.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy most of these bowl games, it's the Ohio-LaMonroe, Western Kentucky-Central Michigan or UCF-Ball State ones that don't interest me in the least bit. But as mentioned, I just don't watch those ones. For some reason I always like watching the Sun Bowl, probably because of the setting and the time of day, plus it involves 2 BCS teams. Also, the Chick-Fil-A Bowl is typically one of the best bowls every year. So tomorrow should be good.

I have to admit I haven't watched a single bowl game yet. I watched the UCLA bball game instead of a bowl game a few days ago. I just can't get into it this year.

To each is own, I coached a kid that was a senior at WKU, have another that is a RS frosh at Cincy, and know several of the local UCF kids, so I enjoyed those games. I just savor college football this time of year, because it will be a long off season. Kinda like getting to those last few tator tots, you make them last.

My only bellyaching over the bowls was in response to the argument that we couldn't have a playoff because it would ruin the bowls. The bowls(most) are already ruined as far as their significance. I still like watching them though.

Good point as well. There are a lot of very good players who end up at lower profile schools. Also some lower profile schools that are well coached and do some things worth watching that we would normally never get to see. These college players put in huge amounts of time and effort no matter if they play in the SEC or the Sun Belt. For almost all of these players college ball is going to be the end of their football careers. What is wrong with giving them a little bit of publicity and and a bowl as a reward for that hard work.
