Do you think Boyle regrets reshirting Gordon/Jenkins?

I keep thinking about how much better our rebounding/post defense and scoring off the bench would be with these two guys. We lack another great defensive rebounder/shot blocker and scoring punch off the bench.

I think that Talton should have reshirted. The jump from Sterling bball to D1 is too big in one year. Stalzer is not ready either, and we don't really have a backup PG, so I understand why we are playing him.

Back to the topic, Gordon is perfect compliment to Scott with his defense and rebounding. He would be Dre-lite off the bench. We experience a huge dropoff when Dre and Scott are in foul trouble. Tunks tries hard, but he just isn't a good fit in Boyle's system. Gordon would eventually take most of his minutes away IMO.

Based on the Europe trip in August, Jenkins can really score. We are missing that scoring guard off the bench this year, so we are playing our starters more than we should be right now. Jenkins could have helped immensely here.

Our future looks great, but I don't understand reshirting in basketball. If you can contribute, you should play. This isn't football where you need to reshirt to develop and get stronger.

I remember reading about Gordon needing time to work on academics, but doesn't he still go to all the games/practics/film sessions/etc as a reshirt anyway? So, he is doing everything but playing in the games...why not play him?

Jenkins needs to get stronger, no doubt, but basketball isn't a sport of strength and size, he could be giving us 5-8 ppg off the bench this year.

I'm just thinking out loud...thoughts?

Jenkins should not have redshirted. FACT! (only because it would have made me more right).

But ya, it's strange to see Tad building for the future when we probably lose Dre this season, which will hurt something fierce.

Maybe Gordon. When on the court, I think Talton is playing above expectations (they were brutally low headed into the season), and Stalzer is meeting them, but they're largely redundant. Gordon's interior presence would be nice to have right now at the expense of one of the freshmen guards.

I think every time Tad starts to regret it, he thinks about how stacked the team will be in 2015 and starts smiling. That said, I would LOVE to have Gordon getting minutes this season.

as inconsistent dre has been to start the year... im not sure he will be able to go after the season

Tad's culture is that he doesn't force guys to redshirt. Signing 6, we needed 2 to RS. At least it means that Tad plans on being here in 2016.

Both Jenkins and Gordon were very thin coming out of HS and needed to put on weight. Both players were also extremely raw. I think we should have redshirrted Jenkins and played Gordon, (remember his dunk during Buffs Madness?) switching his redshirt with Talton's or Stalzer's. Tad is building some serious depth for next year though when Hopkins, Fletcher and Thomas get here. All three of those players are college ready right now.

Exactly, Tad didn't red-shirt anybody. Jenkins and Gordon made the decision they thought was best for them.

A little off topic, but imagine if Damien Cain had stuck around. We would be pretty strong up front.

Cain had the talent to be a heck of a player here. Light on his feet and a soft touch for someone with his bulk. Had that wide butt you like to see for a guy anchoring in the post. Really a shame it didn't work out. Mayor-Ski-Cain would be a great sophomore class that would have balanced things very well.

IF "ifs and buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas. All Talton and Stalzer need to help out more, is shoot with a bit more confidence and protect the ball. Otherwise, they're fine for their limited roles. SHT will play and decently when the oppos' wide bodies are on the floor and athleticism takes a back seat to bulk. He did great knocking Iverson around; Iverson was whining like a schoolgirl when SHT put him on the deck a couple of times.

As BTE41 said Jenkins and Gordon were poster boys for the Ethiopian Hunger Drive, they NEEDED to RS just to grow into their bodies. Bill Russell said it best, when asked about football-basketball comparison, "Basketball is a contact sport, football is a collision sport."

Have you guys even seen Gordon? The guy is pretty solid. More bulk than Dre and about the same height.

Yeah. Physically, he's a very well put together freshman. He does need to refine his offensive game and improve some technique stuff, though. It's not a weight room issue with Gordon and we should make that clear. This was a matter of whether he wanted to be an 8 minute per game guy who struggled a lot in 2012-13 or got the extra year to be an all-conference post player in 2016-17 with that 4th eligibility season.

Just surprised that two different posters mentioned how skinny he was.

I was too. In terms of bulk, he's one of the most put together guys on the current roster. Not like XJ or Adams, but solid.

Bump. It may be late in the season but if we burn either one's redshirt they can play nearly the entire conference slate. Our bench is god awful and has been all season

I really do believe that we would have won this game of we had the luxury of putting Wes and Josh on the floor at the same time, get the big canadian to guard one and feed the other. Hell, I even thought a lineup with SHT and Josh would have helped. That being said, we aren't going to see Wes this year so we need to stop thinking about it every time we lose, we'll thank Tad later.

I believe Dre will have to come back next season plus that will be a stacked Buffs team in 13-14 so I don't think there should be any regrets in redshirting both players this season.
