Article: On the C-Unit

Good article. I've pointed out that the keg has never looked full on TV this year. Now I hear that the student section is not even full during most games. It seems we might be getting a little ahead of ourselves here. I'm sure it's rocking and better than when I was a student, but if we want to be considered one of the best student sections in the country, the students need to step it up another notch.

I mean other than the fact that we average roughly 94% capacity and have barely gotten into home conference play regardless of what it looks like on TV. And spare the inflated numbers, every school does that.

Too many games thus far have fallen on break (NAU and Hartford) which impacted it. I also assume that Sunday games don't help after three days of partying. But, it's still the best student section in the PAC 12 by far. The 8 Thursday games should be Thursday and Saturday, it'll be packed then. Guaranteed.

Again, I only judge by what I see on TV but when I watch Arizona play I see an engaged crowd and don't see empty seats.

Maybe because they are the only ones who average more than us but the CU v. Arizona game this year didn't look like anything special to me in terms of noise.

Bitching about attendance when we average ~94% is interesting, especially considering where we were even last year for the OOC games.

I'm not bitching. I'm saying we have another step to go up to be considered one of the best in the country.

What you are seeing isnt indicative of what is going on in Coors, the C-unit has perhaps not been up to the level of our expectation for them (although I'd only concede that against (UCLA/USC). Rumblin's first ten rows comment is off base, even over break they rolled pretty deep.

Does anyone actually think we're one of the best student section in America? We're good but not at the top. I don't but that doesn't mean you shouldn't vote for CUnit anyway.

I struggled between making my point, dramatic license, and being factual. I only play a doctor on TV. The "bong-rip" and "10 rows" lines are obviously offensive, and I meant them to be so. Half the reason I wrote this is to prod 100% student attendance for the ASU game.

The point is, in light of last year, I expect more against UCLA and Cal. I value student attendance in those games much more than I do against Northern Arizona and Hartford. The excuses strike me as lame. As a result, I'm not voting for them this year.

I was in Tucson for the CU game and it wasn't better than the Keg. Fell short imo.

I've been at almost every home game and they look pretty darn full to me. I don't know what TV is catching, but the emptiest seats are near the court because they are $$$$$$$. There's not many empty.

that is the funny part. All the empty seats are 100% sold out in terms of season ticket sales. You probably can't get below row 25 if you wanted season tickets now.

I disagree that the student section hasn't been full for a lot of games. The USC and UCLA game both fell during break (we have ton of california students) and keep in mind the broncos were playing that day. I had tickets to the broncos and Im sorry I decided to go to the broncos playoff game instead. The Stanford game was packed in the student section to the point that the isles were being filled and the police attempted to get involved but epically failed. The Cal game was disappointing Ill give you that but it was a beautiful day on a Sunday at 1:30. We aren't a basketball school and unlike the KU and Dukes of the world students don't come to CU knowing they have a great basketball team and have a desire to go to the games. The ASU game will be packed. Why? its a night game compared to an afternoon game. You see this with football. The games the students show up in force is the night games. Easier to pre game and gives an incentive to go. I fully expect you will see the C-Unit of last year for the rest of the year with the exception of maybe Utah and Oregon State.

Good to hear.

Agreed about the Sunday games, I don't understand why the conference is scheduling so many Sunday games.

Sounds like you agree that KU or Duke should win the award for top student section.

I'm pissed that the conference keeps sticking us with the 1200 and 1:30 time slots - just because we are in the mountain time zone shouldn't mean we are constantly getting the early games. Students show better for night games, especially on weekends. Fact!

The WV arena was bumping last night against KU. I haven't seen CU's energy level approximate the level of crazy seen on TV in Morgantown last night.

The one fast fix is to usher students into the empty half court seats behind the scoring table at the 7:00 min mark. Court side seats should never be left empty.

They did this for CSU, there were a couple of student athletes occupying me seats when I got there not 2 minutes in.

What they need to do is raise the price on the half court and courtside seats. It needs to hurt financially if you can't make it to a game. Right now, the tickets are so cheap that you can justify the price of the season package just so you can go to a couple of games. People are more likely to use a ticket that they paid $30 for than a ticket they paid $15 for.
