Overall thoughts on the class

First of all, getting Awuzie and Thompson today is good news. The depth chart in the secondary has improved dramatically with these last two classes. Both Embree and MacIntyre have seriously upgraded the speed and athleticism back there. You hear Nik and I harp on class balance a lot because it is so important. These last two classes allow the coaches to be much more picky going forward as they evaluate prospects.

Beyond that, this is a class that will be all about development. I doubt we will see too many out of this group play as true freshmen, which is not a bad thing. We really need to redshirt at a lot of positions to build depth. We are likely to see several of these players end up in different positions.

Overall, hard to get a good read on many players in this class and we all know what type of disaster MacIntyre walked into.

Going into the next class, expect a heavy dose of linemen on both sides of the ball. Also should see running backs and linebackers as priorities.

Ya very happy with Awuzie and Thompson. Those guys need to start being the middle of our class going forward however.

We need some Tackles in the next class. Sam Jones please. Gunnar Graham might have to play this year if we get some injuries. The loss of Bakhtiari was huge

Wound up being the #68 class in the nation, according to rivals.com

It appeared to me that the Pac-12 and the Big-12 were down this year, overall.

I'm pretty uninformed, but I am not particularly happy. I don't understand the excitement about Awuzie and Thompson. They appear to be low end 3*s with offer lists that are not particularly impressive. I understand they are players in positions of need, but I'm not going head over heels about them.

No one should be happy with this class. I sincerely believe/hope MacIntyre knows this class cannot be the standard going forward. He may not buy into the stars argument (what coach actually admits they do?), but he knows damn well we need a serious talent upgrade going forward.

Awuzie and Thompson are solid players we are adding to a secondary that has a lot of potential. We do not need them to be stars right away, but they are the type of players that can develop into decent PAC-12 starters. Not really sure you can say that about the majority of the players in this class.

Considering the depths to which this program has descended, these are pretty good gets...IMO.

I think we are somewhat overinflating them because the rest of our class is kinda... meh. But Awuzie's film is pretty legit. Plus Wiscy/Ore St tried getting involved late

12 California players, 3 Texas, 3 Colorado and 1 from Washington.

Its vital next year and the year after we bring in some elite guys. We do have playing time to sell to WRs and RB's.

Offensive line in need of a huge talent upgrade next year too.

Even with all the change and uncertainty or 2 regimes, this class looks a lot like the regions the coaches will be targeting going forward.

Not much to add here. I am more on board with the HCMM guys added late as I think more due diligence was done, and they will be solid players. I'm not sure of all the kids from before that, and that's probably just me. I have seen Kennedy recruit a lot of WR's who missed at Texas and I don't understand wtf Bienemy was doing.

We need to find some explosive studs for the D-Line and WR and those guys tend to stand out, get 4-stars or above. We need more of that.

All in all - a good year to have small numbers of scholarships to give with the transition class and relatively poor in-state numbers. Next year looks much better IMO, but nothing like 2012 turned out to be.

This class did address weaknesses, but was balanced by position. I Saw HCMM mentioned his ideas of "22", which is what I also have used as a rule of thumb. When things are going well, we will have balanced classes of about 22 (one per position). No need for us to bring in 9 D-Linemen hopefully anytime soon.

let's hope the extra time to develop helps all these kids, especially on the OL.

Last time I was "happy" about a class, that class fell apart faster than an East German automobile or Russian jet(Scott, Katoa.....etc.)

I much prefer to see how things develop over a couple of seasons. Sefo is a very good get and will play somewhere. OLs are tough to predict, but seem to have good backgrounds. Ross and Kincaid will surprise more than a few and those two skinny LBs already on campus may be very interesting to follow.

Now its on the staff to develop and coach them up; something we haven't seen for quite awhile.

I think there's some speed and versatility that could play a role in a few years. And I also think that there are some o-linemen who will develop into regulars down the road.

It is a depth and develop class; I would be surprised to see any of them break into the 2 deep. Might see a couple get in on ST.

I guess one positive is that we don't have any borderline qualifiers in this class. I think everyone will qualify easy and won't have any trouble staying eligible while @ CU. About half of Hawkins' last few classes (and most of his top ranked signees in earlier classes: Simas, Nuckols, Anthony Wright, Josh Smith, Celestine etc) were academic risks, and that showed with a large % dropping out/transferring

I will also add I think the 2014 class is really important. I think it is the type of class that tips the scales one way or the other. Another class in the 60s and that is a poor job by the coaching staff. They should know plenty of juniors they really like that they have been in contact with for a while now, so no excuses to not hear some genuine interest from several this spring.

Below 50 or failure.

This is the type of class you get when your team goes 1-11, and your one win is by 1pt, and it was vs. the perennial worst team in the BCS.

I'm rooting for all the players. Some might be special players. But only way to improve recruiting is to win and then sell MM as a legit BCS HC.

While they weren't as bad (2-10) and they do play in the SEC... Kentucky has the #31 ranked class (not counting 4* DE Jason Hatcher-USC decommit). Which is light years ahead of us right now

My thoughts too. HCMM might close out the 2014 class well, but I will surprised if he lands a bunch of highly recruited guys before October. He's got to prove to a bunch of 17 years old that they are committing to a school that isn't a complete joke. No one wants to sign up for 4 years of 69-14 games.

The other important area is QB. I blame the lack of QBs in the program as a major culprit in our programs demise and that lays at the feet of Hawkins, we have now added one decent QB in each of the last two classes. You have to bring in one per year at least to stay on track. We won't know if either Sefo or Dillon will be the answer but you have to recruit the position. A good portion of the turn around at SJSU can be attributed to the finding of a QB.

You Sir hit it on the head... Everyone wants those 4 and 5 * guys that most would not even qualify here at CU... I actually think our coaches did pretty well. There are some sleepers in the class that will surprise. I also feel there are some kids that have the mentality and gratefulness to be playing in the Pac12. Those kids will raise the bar on the practice field, which will translate to the game field. I do see CU heading in the right direction with this class overall. Really nice to see a staff with a vision and plan to get there... btw: those we had in the past with all the star power ala, Ochs, Scott, Houston could not get it done on the field

I actually think there is a decent case to be made for taking two QBs next year. One athlete and one more traditional QB. That all depends on how everything shakes out this spring though.

Most 4* and 5* players we recruit can qualify at CU. Let's stop making that excuse over and over again.

So a Top 25 class will be a failure for you? Good to know...:smile2:

No... our '14 class needs to be below 50 or it will be a failure.

At some point we're going to have to start recruiting at the level of our competition. The closest pac-12 foe is 17 spots higher (WSU), and the closest after that is 29 spots higher (Ore St). That's a pretty large gap. We don't have this class because we suck. We have this class because we suck and because we hired an entire staff that spent the last couple years recruiting non-AQ type prospects.

This is Kentucky's 4th recruiting class under Joker Phillips. (And he's been at Kentucky as a coach in some capacity since 2003.) He took Kentucky to a bowl game in 2010.

Not really similar situations, at all. They should be light years ahead of CU right now.

Mark Stoops is signing his first class (transition class) today.
