How will the schollies work out (from Thomas thread)

Copeland is a very good comparison actually.

I like his size and length. Great stroke from deep. He will immediately be one of our best shooters on the team from day 1. He doesn't have the best jumping ability, but he can do some many other things well. In addition, as others have said, he can play the 3/4, and he will be a mismatch for both positions.

Our 2013 recruiting reclass looks like it will have more contributors than the 2012 class because all of these guys can play.

Our bench problems this year won't be happening next year with three new players and two reshirts joining our current guys and losing only one player guaranteed (Chen). I hope Roberson stays one more year.

If Roberson stays I think we'll be over the scholarship limit and someone would have to sacrifice.

As far as DT goes, his body looks like he's ready to bang down low for rebounds already. And wow does he have a great looking shot and some decent handles! He's going to be a nightmare for other PF's.

I'm liking the way next years roster is shaping up with Scott and Gordon holding it down in the trenches with XJ, Tre, and DT playing the hybrid 3/4. Going to be a very versitile lineup. But with that said, I can see Tre or DT redshirting.

Tunks sounds like he's gone and Talton could be as well. Also wouldn't surprise me to see Mills leave.

Did Adams play against Utah? It looked like he was rounding into form the previous couple games and then I don't remember seeing him against the Utes. I think we need to watch his situation closely because of the medical retirement potential.

nope, he didn't play

Where are you getting this Tunks info? That still means we need one more spot, right?

Sources

But no, it was on 247 a while ago. Obviously a fluid situation but we'll see.

homesick from an hour away? not saying he's not leaving but that sounds like a cop out excuse

BIG adjustment going from a town like Sterling to Boulder. I can understand it. That said, I hope he stays as the kid has started to show some flashes.

Home sick, difficulty adjusting, etc.

I could see Tad putting in a good word for him at UNC if he'd like to play more and stay local. He's still got the redshirt year to use for transferring.

It isn't that big of an adjustment. If you are from Sterling, you spend a heck of a lot of time in the front range. I doubt he is homesick. And from his play last night, I couldn't see him wanting to leave.

You should follow him on twitter and befriended him on Facebook. So when he posts that he misses his family you can post "no you don't"

It seems to me that the most likely way that the shortfall in scholarships is solved next year is the that Tunks and Adams, who are both in the 4th year of college now will leave the program. This fulfills a implied commitment to give them an opportunity to complete their college education in four years and does not require moving out anyone else. If Tunks and Adams graduate and want to ... they could play another year elsewhere (pursing a degree that CU does not offer). I am betting that Roberson stays around through his senior year. He still needs to work on his offensive game if he ever wants to have a shot at the NBA ... and completing his education is important for his future in the real world. That would leave Roberson and Mills as the senior class for next year and the Buffs sign two more recruits for 2014. Tad is not about to run anybody off.

You have to leave the farm sometime. Or not.

Its not like Boulder is Manhattan. If Boulder is too city for you to spend 4 years in for a free education, then you've got a sheltered life ahead of you. Finally started to see the playmaking ability from him.

I'd say Tunks and Mills are out. Not sure about Adams. He played well vs. Oregon.

I hope Adams stays around because I believe he is much better than he has shown due to injuries, knee problems, etc. He is a solid defender, and I think next year will be his best year once he is healthy mentally and physically.

I'm thinking Tunks and Mills are definitely out.

Will be interesting to see what happens to Stalzer if Talton continues to emerge. They reversed roles, and Talton pulled decidedly ahead. Played big minutes last night.

Nothing. Eli has a valuable role on this team, even if Talton emerges and we bring in tons of 5* recruits. He's a smart player, who can hit the open shot and play D. He was brought in to be a backup PG for 4 years, and that's what he'll be. Teams need guys like that. He's had some rough spots this year, but I'm still high on Eli and think next year he'll be a guy who will come in and run the reserves without things falling apart.

Yep. I think we'll also see him develop into an extra late-game ball handler who is money from the charity stripe.

Yup. Plus, people comparing XT and Eli to each other are making the same mistake people comparing Dom Collier & Josh Perkins are. They're different types of guards. The Mayor/Eli/Perkins - more of a "pure" PG. They can still score, but their job is to keep things moving. Ski/XT/Dom - they're combo guards. Yeah, they can run the point, but they're more of a scoring threat.

Honestly, I think Tad realizes his bench isn't ready this year. We've seen flashes from everyone, but no one consistently plays. Every game, it seems he just throws what he thinks will be a good matchup out there and sees what sticks. Last few games, he's thought Talton's quickness and defense would be the spark we needed, and he's been right. Previously, he needed Eli's calmness. I wouldn't look too much into one getting PT over the other right now.

You really think Boyle will get rid of almost all of our size? If Scott ever gets in foul trouble we would be forced to have a 6'7" or 6'8" player playing center. I know Boyle likes small lineups, but I don't see both of them leaving.

We'd be better off playing "small ball" in that situation to create matchup problems than trying to positionally mirror the other team with inferior talent.

Boyle is an honest guy who does not "get rid"of players. I believe that he will give Mills the option to stay or go as he probably has in the past. Although, at his current skill level, Mills is not a significant solution in the post next year anyway. The key factor in letting Tunks go is that the University has given him four years of education. From what I understand, he is a good student and probably will be degree eligible this Spring or Summer. I feel certain that Boyle has understanding with each of his players and that the ones who do leave will do so without being surprised and feel good about him and the University.

It's looking like this is going to get complicated for Boyle. Nbadraft.net has removed Dre from their 2013 mock into their 2014 mock. http://www.nbadraft.net/2014mock_draft

Assuming there are only 13 scholly's, here's my off the wall guess of what will happen. I just don't see the numbers working, so someone has to be asked to transfer or relinquish they're scholly for a year (aka Chen). I hope no one has to give up they're sholarship and I also don't want anyone shown the door. Tad's got some decisions to make but I'm sure he may have seen this coming and already has made a deal with one or two of the players.

Chen - Graduated leaves team
Mills - Stays
Tunks - Graduates and leaves team
Adams - Graduates and stays
Hopkins - Stays (no redshirt)
Gordon - Redshirt Freshman
Jenkins- Redshirt Freshman
Fletcher - Redshirts
Thomas - Redshirts
Talton - Stays
Stalzer - Stays (asked to forfeit scholly for 1 year)
Johnson - Stays
Scott - Stays
Dinwiddie - Stays
Booker - Stays
Roberson - Stays

No matter where your from College is an adjustment. As a current freshman I go home maybe once every two months or three times during the semester just cause its what I am comfortable with and sometimes its nice to get away. As an athlete the transition I would imagine would be even tougher. Keep in mind they had the trip to Europe which cut off the summer break completely, had tournaments and games during thanksgiving and winter breaks. They don't get to get home hardly at all which can be tough for someone who has spent there whole life at home. Just saying his feelings are pretty normal.

You'd ask one of the instate kids to forfeit the scholly if you were going to do this because although the scholly cost is out of state the tuition cost for a walkon is in-state if they are instate.

This is not a new situation for college coaches, Boyle will figure it out. Tunks will be gone, Mills will transfer, and Adams may just be offered medical retirement. Sad situation because the talent is there, but is what it is.

we are all assuming Dre doesnt declare, I dont think that is a safe assumption.
