Obviously this was a brutal loss, but it was an unusual game in every sense. We're sitting 17-8, 7-6 with 5 games remaining -- Utah, at Stanford, at Cal, Oregon, Oregon State

I have a hard time seeing us losing another home game, but Oregon definitely poses a threat.

I do feel optimistic about winning one in the Bay Area. I really think the trip to Oregon taught this team how to go about winning on the road. Cal is hot at the moment, but I'm not sold that they're just going to cruise right on through the regular season at the level they've shown their last two games. They'll cool off. It's the Pac-12, everyone does random ****. Stanford is fading and no longer has any hopes to Dance. They're a mediocre team, plain and simple.

We don't really have a C or PF position in Tad's scheme. We have 3 perimeter players, 1 perimeter/post hybrid and 1 post. Scott is the post and he plays close to 30 minutes a night unless he's in foul trouble.

As far as officiating, flukes, it was horrible. On the play where Scott got knocked out by the elbow, he was called for a foul for falling into the guy while blacked out. Spencer Dinwiddie missed at least a minute of OT after getting hit in the face and knocked into the 2nd row on a drive with no foul called and him needing to go to the bench after the refs did an injury stoppage. Moving screens, hip checks, players getting hooked or held. Also some blatant stupidity on possession calls or awarding a held ball for jumping on top of a guy on the ground and not even getting a tie up of the basketball. All night long. It was more of a wrestling match than a basketball game. And more fouls were called on CU.

Buffs didn't knock down enough shots and were careless with the ball at times, so I don't blame the loss on officiating. But I do blame the refs for causing a style and pace that favored the visitors. I blame the refs for losing control to such an extent that it endangered player safety.

The AZ schools have always been extremely physical, at least, as long as I can remember. Furd used to be somewhat too. The weird thing is that I honestly can't recall "away cooking" from the refs. Seems like the no calls were a form of that tonight. Moving screens and holding are PAC specialty non-calls btw. Hip checks and elbowing are usually called IMO. I actually expected a more physical non-called game from the U of A game though. Who were the refs tonight?

So we had a pieced together crew of guys who pick up games in the western US when available? Makes sense. They didn't seem to work well together. They also seemed over their head. I particularly liked the time in the first half when the ASU player's shot caught the front of the rim and they called a shot clock violation, thinking it was an airball. Didn't matter since Dre got the ball and we controlled anyway, but it was illustrative of their ineptitude.

I didn't get the sense that the calls were against us. I think that it was equally bad. The point highlighted above was the most significant part. I think every person that bought a ticket to a basketball game last night should have their ticket cost refunded.

The lack of calls fromt the refs especially early in the game allowed the game to get to the point that it was nearly a brawl. (anybody else see the very frustrated Roberson squaring up face-to-face with the ASU player and shoving him two handed in the chest 2-3 times in a row... no foul there either... amazing) The league cannot condone officiating that allows the bigs to blatantly throw elbows to clear space (not just on the Scott injury play either).

The character of the game became one that clearly favored the thugish play of ASU due to the poor officiating. CU wins a basketball match-up with ASU, not a wrestling match-up.

Now, the lessons need to be learned however. CU needs to find a way to play and succeed against such tactics. We have to draw the inside fouls and get thugs out of the game early. Obviously a good use for our only big is to beat on their guys too. SHT doesn't need to be taking fouls 25 feet from the basket, he needs to be taking his fouls down low against bigs in a violent aggressive manner in a game like last night. Perhaps even putting in Mills just to give fouls. A team like ASU isn't going to hit many foul shots anyway.

The Buff did exactly what you suggest, but that only works when the refs in question bother to CALL the friggin' fouls! They could have fouled out the ASU starting five late in the first half had the refs bothered to make the calls.
