THE GAME:
No. 20 (AP)/23 (USA Today Sports/Coaches) ranked University of Colorado opens its final regular season home weekend by hosting Washington State University on Friday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Coors Events Center.

BROADCAST:

Friday’s game will be broadcast live on KKZN AM 760. Mike Rice will have the play-by-play with Carol Callan of USA Basketball providing the color commentary. A live video stream will be available on the Pac-12 Digital platform at Pac-12.com at this link: http://pac-12.com/live/cubuffs.aspx. The live stream is free to the public and not tied to a Pac-12 Network carrier.

OPENING TIP:
Colorado is looking to match its win total from a year ago and record its first double-digit league win season since 2004.

ABOUT THE BUFFALOES:

Colorado is 20-5 overall and in fifth place in the Pac-12 at 9-5. The Buffaloes have won 20 games for the 19th time in team history and have their most in the regular season since the 2003-04 team won 22 (finished 22-8). CU has also three more Pac-12 wins than it did in 2012 with four regular season games still to play. The Buffaloes finished in 10th place at 6-12 in their inaugural season in the league. The Buffaloes are one-and-a-half games behind UCLA (11-4) for fourth place and two behind Sunday’s opponent, Washington (11-3) for third.

Colorado has won five straight, its longest win streak within conference games since the 2003-04 team had a six-game run during Big 12 play. All five of Colorado’s losses have come to ranked teams, four against Stanford and California, ranked No. 7 or better at the time. The combined record of the three teams the Buffaloes have lost to this year is 67-10 with six of those losses coming against each other. UCLA was swept by Cal and Stanford. The Bay Area schools split their series earlier this season.

ABOUT THE COUGARS:
Washington State is 10-15 overall and sixth in the Pac-12 at 6-8. The Cougars have lost two of their last three since a four-game win streak earlier this month. Washington State averages 61.2 points per game on 36.4 percent shooting. The Cougars are one of the top teams in the Pac-12 in steals, ranking second at just over 10 per game. WSU allows its opponents 64.8 points per game on 38.2 percent from the field.

We're up 10-4 early.

Also, Utah is up 17-10 early on Washington. That would be big for us if the Utes could get that win.

Would only buffer for me, so I listened on AM760. Defense wins again. Now we have to take care of business on Sunday.

Washington has Stanford and Cal left to play at home, but those games will not be easy for them.

Very poor offensive performance tonight, but as usual the defense was solid which is what brought the win. Buffs struggled with physicality and non-calls, plus they missed a lot of make-able shots. They were able to open up a double-digit gap in the last three minutes of the game. Arielle with some key buckets down the stretch to finish with 17 points along with 13 rebounds (8 were on the offensive end). Chucky had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, 3 steals.

WSU shot about 19% for the game, but went 21-28 from the line. I thought the officiating wasn't the best tonight and the class that went against the Buffs kept the Cougars in the game.

CU needs to play much better offensively on Sunday.

Yes, CU did not play very well offensively. Hopefully Kresl will be back soon! That should help a little. CU only shot 33% from the field. LUCKILY WSU only shot an amazingly low 19%. CU also had too many turnovers (19). It was definitely an ugly win (this phrase is becoming all too common in describing CU's basketball games, both mens and womens) but a wins a win. There were some positives though

I loved the fight of our front court. WSU is a good inside team and CU battled hard the entire game out rebounding WSU 46-37. CU also had more steals (15-8), more blocks (7-6), more assists (12-4) and less turn overs (19-24). So CU definitely out played the Cougars, only we should have won by more like 30 rather than 14.

Kresl didn't practice all week, so my guess would be it's likely she won't play Sunday. It's tough to be in game shape when you've only been riding the bicycle at practice.

Yes, CU is better than Washingon State, but the Cougars had nothing to lose by beating a ranked team. Sunday's game means the #4 spot in the Pac 12 tournament for both teams thanks to Utah beating Washington.

If we win tomorrow, we can expect moving up to #19 in the AP poll since Florida State lost (albeit to Duke). That also helps us in the Coaches'.

Purdue and Oklahoma State, which were both ahead of us in the Coaches Poll, both took bad losses this week. Purdue at an 11-15 Indiana squad and Okie Lite at an 8-17 TCU squad. Syracuse, also ahead of us with the Coaches, has a dangerous game at USF today (18-7 and beat Louisville this week).

If things go as they should, beating Washington should have the Buffs moving up in both polls.

Syracuse gave up an 11-poiint halftime lead to lose at unranked USF.

Buffs need to take care of business tomorrow and Monday should be a good day when the new rankings come out.

First things first: Beat Washington!

:yeahthat:

Also a W tomorrow will make it a most probable #4 Pac12 finish and a 1st round bye in the Conference tourney for the Buffs! A loss and we are locked in at #5 as UW would be 2 games ahead with the tiebreaker, with two to play.
