Recap of CU vs. UA

*Note, this is more for the people who couldn't watch because of the P12-DTV mess.

-Give credit to Arizona, they came out with energy and hit a lot of big shots throughout the game. They were flying down court after every shot to play D. On the flipside, we looked like we were ready to play a good team, but not a great team. And for the first half, Arizona played great.

-The second half we kicked it into "great team" gear and played blanket defense. Everyone was dialed in.

-While you can't point to one play that lost it, the play where we had them within 2pts under a minute and Johnson backed down Ski was really really bad. He had no help and one half of the entire court was missing any defenders other than Ski. Do we really want Ski defending Johnson in the paint, right underneath the hoop with no one around, with the game on the line? We will lose that every time.

-The last second over the back call on Dre was absurd. Again, it wasn't one call that lost it, but that was a very bad call. Tad lost it on the sidelines.

-Dinwiddie and Dre played amazing. They are the offensive and defensive heart of this team.

-Hat tip to Ski in the second half. He played well outside of the last defensive possession vs. Johnson, although you can't really fault him for that either (he needed help much earlier). The first half he def turned the ball over a ton, but a better game than last game. He's better hitting the ridiculous 3pt than the wide open shot.

-The game changed when Scott picked up his second foul in the first. The energy of the team went with him on the bench. SHT played as normal, but Mills was really high energy out there. He was battling his ass off against Tarczewski and helped contribute to a shot clock violation, as well as ripped down a few rebounds. I hope we see him spell Scott going forward this year.

-As for Scott, he played like a guy with 4.99 fouls all game. He just didn't get comfortable or assert himself. We know he can play, but I think he's fading down the stretch.

-Talton looked very impressive. He had a few quick drives to the hoop and played active defense. Boyle subbed him in for Dinwiddie late in the game when he got tired. Really like his game.

-Chen, I'm not sure what happened. His 2nd half was way better, but didn't play as much. He and Ski really turned the ball over too much in the 1st half to win a game like this.

Pretty good recap.

Buffs played a team that's slightly better than us but a good matchup for us. Zona simply made more plays. Credit where it's due. We simply got beat.

I dont agree. seemed every questionable charge called went to AZ. Buffs are as good as AZ. Believe that! And ArIzona's coach is right, you dont want to play CU in the tourney!

I would be licking my chops if I'm a 12 or 13 and draw Arizona. Easily could fall victim to a South Dakota State type team.

I really liked how Talton played, when Dinwiddie needed rest. I think he played a big role in keeping us in range during parts.

Arizona began the second half going low and scoring in the paint. When we packed it in, the hit wide open 3's. it was unreal.

The Arizona schools, especially Arizona, are going to love this tourney being in Vegas. They were loud and energized. They drowned us out.

Good recap. It sounded like a great game to see, especially in person. I don't know which is worse. Not seeing it and having to listen being nervous or having to see it.

Huge credit to their fans. We had a good contingent, but they filled half the seats in the arena.

I had a hard time watching in the second half when we mounted a few comebacks only to have them answer right back. Resorted to putting in front of the tv with my new Odyssey to keep my mind more at ease because it was gut wrenching at times.

During our final rally, we looked like we were going to pull it out. We just expect to win every game now, which is incredible in itself. Had we played two great halves, we'd be moving on to play UCLA.

Unfortunately, we just dug too deep of a hole middle of the 2nd. Im not SHT's biggest fan, but it really sucks that this will probably be one of his last games and he couldnt see it through. poor pac12 officials bring down another one of our bigs. He will most likely sit for the dance, but hats off to him. He played hard for the time he was in, and we really could have used him.

That said, I think mills did a great job. I think he only hit 1 FT but played a lot of good defense. I'd like to see him get some more minutes, and most likely we will b/c of SHT's injury.
I agree that talton played really well - when we were down ~10 or so, he sparked a 5-0 run that really brought the team back together and kind of let them know that it wasnt quite time to throw in the towel. Obviously I wish we would have seen this earlier in the season from him, but this will help a lot going into the dance.

Bottom line, they just didnt play well enough in the first half to get it done.

I don't think we had a single "and 1." We just couldn't get the shot to drop on the fouls.

I want another shot at AZ in elite 8. Or Final Four. Lol. Being more level headed, its great competing on this level, making it to the tourney! Buffs preseason top 25 next year.

Thanks for the write up! Last thing is that I think tad should use more timeouts early to stop runs and give the starters more rest.

I wouldn't want any part of Arizona if they play like they did today. They will roll inferior talent with their speed and size and athleticism. It will take a team capable of playing 40 minutes of smothering defense to shut them down if they play like this.

Great recap Gold. We started too slowly and the TOs in the first half were killers. While we shot a percentage slightly below AZ int he first half and had 1 more board, they took 7 more shots than we did and hit their 3s. Out FT shooting in the first half was horrible but for the game we averaged around 75%. While there are calls I did not agree with, bad ones went both ways and pretty much evened out. Our fans did a great job today and represented well. We probably had the second largest contingent of fans over the first 2 days with the AZ crowd being much larger and as a result very loud. We traveled well.

We got beat today but as I have said in the past, this will become our rival in the South. I like playing them twice in season and having everyone that was here consider this game as the marquee matchup up of the second day of the tourney. The ongoing series with AZ is going to be a good one that will provide great games in the coming years. Congrat to the Cats today but we will be coming for you next year!

Huge credit to their fans. We had a good contingent, but they filled half the seats in the arena.

Seemed like it on TV, which is bizarre because their fans never showed up for the tournament when it was in LA, which is about the same distance from Tucson as Vegas.

They are starting to respect us a bit maybe. They lost 2 of 3, but it won't be written that way.

Trust me you're not getting any respect for thinking Chens shot was good. A loss is a loss. If you want respect you're going to have to put on your big boy pants.

Now, this is a big boy post! Way to bring it!

Even though CU lost, I thought it was very entertaining to watch. That looked to me like two pretty darn good teams battling.

When Arizona plays like that, they're tough to beat. I feel like they really got up to play us, complete opposite of the game in Boulder. I'm glad we're now going to be getting the best out of teams like 'Zona. I don't feel like we "gave that game away." They beat us tonight.

I also wanted to give Talton some props. He played well today against some great competition.

Good game Buffs, hope you learned some lessons:

1) Don't give away conference games, get that bye next year.
2) Keep working, you can always come back. We had a legitamate shot to get that game into OT after being down 15 with about 10 min left. That in itself is pretty sweet.
3) Making free throws (2nd half) >> Missing free throws. Let's do more making of free throws.

We really are transitioning to a team you don't want to see in a tournament. This is pretty cool to see.

That was by far the best game I've seen out of Talton this year. I'll admit that I was high on him when we signed him, but didn't think we'd see much of anything for 2 years or so. Kid looks good out there and he looks like he's finally finding his comfort zone. It's a big step up from Sterling 4A basketball to the Pac-12, and he's handled it great this last month or so. Legitimately excited about him now.

And another horse that I'm going to ride until the end - Jeremy Adams. I kept hearing how he would dominate in practice last year, but never saw it during games. He would occasionally show flashes, only to have another injury pop up. Now he has his confidence back, and it looks like he's getting healthy. If he can end up really getting better this summer, I can expect him to fill the Chen role next year and take it to a new level. His defense is incredible (he was almost single handedly responsible for one of the shot clock violations yesterday) and if he can hit down the open shot, that opens up a whole new dimension for Ski & Spencer.

So I didn't get to see the game, but listened on the radio. I think there was one point in the game where Booker went back in, had a bad turnover and then immediately sat right back down as Eli came in the game. Do you think we are going to see ski coming off the bench next year if Adams puts it together or Jenkins or one of the incoming Freshman pan out?

I like the speed with which he plays, but he is often reckless and his shooting has regressed, so it would be nice to see him come in the game next year and push the game at a backbreaking pace and focus more on running the offense versus trying to generate offense with his shooting. It would be great to see Ski push it down the court after a made shot or a rebound and not give the defense a chance to get set.

Honestly, I love the idea of Ski coming off of the bench for the reason you mentioned - he changes the pace and provides a whole different game for people to deal with. I think, ultimately, it depends on Spencer. If he's back next year, we have options. If not, we need Ski to run the point for us (and honestly, I think he'll do a damn good job at it).

I didn't think his shot was good, it was good. I'm pretty sure CU has put on their big boy pants against mighty U of A.

We exerted so much energy getting back into the game that we were exhausted in the last few minutes. Still had it down to 2 with :34 left... if Nick Johnson doesn't make that rainbow post shot, I think we would have won. I love how fearless this team is - Arizona is stupid if they're not worried about us.

Not sure what championship game you were watching in Staples last year but they filled over half the arena for the championship game. The out numbered us we just yelled a lot louder. When all the UA fans were cheering they drowned us out. It was quite frustrating. Our band did help quiet them down quite quickly though. Their band did not have the strength to do that.

Traditionally they didn't show. No one did - that is why the tournament was moved. Entirely plausible a bunch of them hopped on flights and in cars only for the championship game last year.

Sabatino had a forgettable game yesterday. But I love that kid. Hope he picks himself up and gets after it in the NCAA's.

I know I'm bias. But if CU had made free throws and hit chippies, they'd have won going away.

either way they are all going to get another game to redeem themselves, except tunks, he might not play.
