Play CSU twice a year?

Haven't seen anything about this, just a thought on my part. Play them once at home and once on the road, maybe even on back-to-back nights. I think this would be a fun and unique way to enhance the rivalry. At the very least another CSU game would more exciting then the normal OOC games against the the likes of Idaho State or Maryland-Eastern Shore. I'm sure some people think that the game wouldn't be as exciting if played twice as opposed to once but did the UCLA or USC games this year really seem more meaningful then other conference games because we only played them once?

No. Name one other non-conference rivalry scheduled like this. There's outside the box thinking, and then there's insanity

This show me one program that has scheduled an OOC team twice in a season.

New Mexico (from the Mountain West) and New Mexico State (from the WAC) play two games every year. There could be others as well, this is the only one I know off the top of my head.

It's a great idea if your goal is to make the game with CSU bigger than it is.

That is not my goal. And it could be an RPI killer if CSU returns to form next season.

I would like to pick up an annual game with New Mexico, though.

Them or UNLV would be awesome.

Hmm, I'm not currently in my "get rep bar to red" mode so I wasn't expecting such a visceral reaction to this. Why is it such a bad idea? You guy really aren't excited by the prospect of CU/CSU games on back-to-back nights, I think it would be awesome. To quote that new AT&T advertising campaign, "Two is always better then one!" To better illustrate my point below I've posted pictures of two girls vs. just one girl. Which looks better?

If CSU was our primary rival I would agree with you about considering it. However they are not. We play to make some people in the area happy. If we could stop playing them we would.

So many other teams that are fairly close by that we could play instead of scheduling CSU twice. New Mexico, UNLV, BYU, Wyoming, Northern Colorado, Air Force, Denver, ...

We could just play CSU in Denver every year and count it as part of the home schedule every other year. I think that idea is at least as good as the twice a year plan...

Yeah! At the Pepsi Center, and we could all pay $40 for parking.

UNM and NMSU play twice because they are the only two D1 teams in the state and they have political pressure to do so just like a big part of why we keep playing CSU in football in Denver has to do with political pressure.

As has already been mentioned we have a lot more options close by with local competition. Even more so now that we are winning but those schools playing CU does more good for them than CU. None are in major conferences (and the MWC is not a major conference despite having a few good teams) What is the CSU RPI going to be next year after losing all five of their senior starters?

You also have to look at the $$ involved. This is the best CSU team in decades and maybe ever. Even with that their attendance is significantly lower than ours even with them having cheaper ticket prices. Playing CSU means we have to give them a bigger split or guarantee of revenues than we do playing someone else. If we can get relatively similar attendance even if it is somewhat lower and not have to pay out large amounts we end up money ahead. We may be fans but the business realities cannot be ignored in college sports.

 Really need to get New Mexico back on the schedule. A little farther away, but throw in San Diego State in there as well. Being that I like going to Moby to watch a game or two a year, wouldn't be opposed to scheduling them twice. But like 'Nik said it could be a problem to our RPI number depending on the year.

And be sure to make season ticket holders pay extra as part of the season ticket package for that game too! Great marketing idea! F ck CSU.

Not a terrible idea, but would interest be there for the second game, particularly if that game was in Fort Collins?

do you ever get that that "help I am talking and i can't shut up feeling/"

This is the dumbest thing that has ever been proposed in the history of humankind.

CU should play CSU twice a year. Only if that's TOTAL between basketball + football. And then limit it to basketball only.

^^ This ^^

Let's work on scheduling as many regional teams as we can.

New Mexico and Wichita State.

I would love to see an annual game with the Lobos. That's as safe an RPI bet as just about any OOC game in the west. We won't always get a bump from Front Range teams like we did with Air Force this year. That said, I think we should play CSU and at least one other local team every year.
