UCLA to seek Permission to speak to Boyle Tomorrow

It would be interesting if they did. I wouldn't worry too much about these rumors though. Until KU comes open, if it ever does, I think he's a buff.

They could do better.

Edit: Pretty sure they're waiting for Billy Donovan. Read somewhere he's their top choice.

Should ask, but being UCLA they won't. I'm not overly concerned. At most he will get a pay raise out of this from CU.

Boyle is going to garner interest from more illustrious programs than our every single offseason. May as well get used to it.

Best thing that could possibly happen to us would be if Tad told UCLA "No". That would be a great thing to tell future recruits.

Of course, he could take that job. I just have trouble seeing the Boyle family doing the LA thing.

Also, how is "UCLA should ask CU for permission to talk to Tad" the same as UCLA to seek permission to talk to him? Isn't Reed just saying UCLA should do it?

Every year this happens. Last year it was Nebraska and KSU. The year before it was A&M. I'll freely admit that UCLA is a much higher profile program than any of those. I still don't think he'd be a legit candidate for anybody not named "Kansas".

He could have meant, that he has a sources saying that they should be asking, implying that they will.

Tad's not an Adidas guy. UCLA is an Adidas school, Korey McCray (only UCLA assistant being retained) is an Adidas guy, his AAU team is sponsored by Adidas. Mark Gottfired is an Adidas guy, NC State signed with Adidas after he got there. Don't underestimate this connection.

Unless I'm missing something, as others have pointed out. "UCLA should ask..." is a lot different than "UCLA talking to Tad tomorrow".
And frankly, if they did, I'm not concerned for a variety of reasons.

As a first call at 3.0mm Boyle makes no sense for UCLA. In 5 weeks when they've been spurned by a bunch of people? Watch out.

UCLA's arrogance is just part of it. I genuinely don't think Tad would bounce to another Pac-12 program. If he leaves us, it would be for a blueblood to the east. JMO, but I really get the feeling he's highly content here. Maybe the black and gold glasses are on and I'm not realizing, but it sure seems to be that vibe to me.

Why would he leave UCLA, when he turned down Kentucky, which he had a connection too? He has no west coast ties to my knowledge!

Agreed. If Tad leaves it will be for a higher-profile program than UCLA

Firing a guy with 3 Final Fours in a year he won his conference regular season title is a bit of an eye-opener. These coaches all have egos, but it's a bit drastic (i know there were inner issues). UCLA had 25 wins. The tradition, recruiting grounds and renovated Pauley are a plus. The tradition also means ridiculously high expectations despite having one national title (1995) in the last 38 years.. It's ****ing hard to win a national championship, wherever you are. UCLA fan support is pathetic, too, certainly nothing like you see with other bluebloods.

Imagine recruiting at a basketball school which has much lower academic ratings and standards than other schools within the same state? Tad could have some success at UCLA. I'd be a little worried but I think he stays.

KU and UK
KU would clearly be a job more destined for him based on him playing for them. UCLA has the most titles. UK/KU have the advantage about it being the biggest show in town. You can probably debate the merits between UCLA and UK -- both jobs leave very little room for error.

Yea, I don't buy this "Tad will only leave us for Kansas" talk. If a team like UNC or Duke calls, he's gone imo.

The good news is they won't be calling unless we start hitting Final Fours. Even then, Duke will do an 'in the family' move at first post-K. UNC loves those, too.

If it happens, it's because the court was rushed after the Zona game.

I really hope Tad would rather have a legacy as "the man" in Boulder instead of just another coach in the shadow of John Wooden.

In addition to what everyone else has said in terms of the $$$, I'd add his kids are still in school. Does he want to uproot his family? Talk about a real non-money factor.

I don't even worry about Tad Boyle rumors anymore. These rumors are going to persist basically until Tad Boyle retires, and my view is if he's going to leave, he will. I just hope that CU will make a strong commitment to Boyle to match what he is offered elsewhere.

UCLA obviously has a great tradition, and he could have a lot of success there. I'd imagine though Boyle is not at the top of UCLA's list, but if a number of their top candidates turned them down, maybe he becomes an option

Dunno how UCLA operates but I assume since Howland is out, that they already have a strong belief in who they can get.

I wonder more where Howland will land?
