The Western Kentucky football program received a verbal commitment Sunday from Nelson Fishback.
Fishback is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback who played the 2012 season at Butte College in Oroville, Calif., where he threw for 1,482 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games.
Originally from Durham High in Durham, Calif., Fishback had interest from Fresno State and San Diego State in 2011. He currently has offers from WKU and Western Illinois and visited Colorado at the end of March before coming to Bowling Green last week.
Fishback is the second commitment for Bobby Petrino post signing day, although Lloyd Tubman out of Seneca High (2014) has switched his commitment to Vanderbilt.

Not sad about this. Not even sure HCMM wanted him. We are certainly majorly lacking in QBs with college experience at the moment. Here's to hoping Wood stays healthy, Dillon starts getting kicked out of all you can eat steakhouses, and Sefo is one of the quickest learners in the history of college FB.

Sounds like Adam confirmed Fishback did not have a committable offer from CU. I have heard it may have related to his transcripts but not sure if that was some or all of the reason. HCMM welcome to the difficulties of recruiting Jucos at CU.

would like to of had this kid. Especially with Nick jumping ship so late in the game. These other kids need to step up and/or Sefo needs to come in ready.

Not sure what all the hype with this guy was...a CC QB with a 150 yd + 1 TD/game average, no thanks. We have plenty of QBs on the roster and would like to think all of them would put up better numbers at Butte CC. If not, the situation is far worse than I thought possible.

I didn't see a JC transfer with ok but not great numbers as a must-have for this season. Wood is the starter, and we have other scholarship QB's that are capable to win the backup role.

So based on the Daily Camera article in the newsroom (focused on CUD), it sounds like things may not be over yet with our pursuit of Fishback. Our coaches are still planning to visit him this week?

It might be Ringo talking out of his ass. He has been pushing "CU actively recruiting Fishback" for a few weeks now. He's not ready to give it up.

Ringo's quote:
Butte College quarterback Nelson Fishback has committed to play at Western Kentucky after also visiting Colorado this spring. However, Colorado hasn't offered Fishback a scholarship and doing so could entice him to switch his commitment. Colorado coaches, who are scheduled to visit Fishback this week, might be concerned about depth at quarterback.

I'd take him now. Any injury injury to Wood and we're f'ed... and that's assuming he is actually good

Our qbs are gonna get hit, we need somebody. If Wood goes down, we are green as can be. I'd feel more comfortable bringing in somebody that at least has experience outside of hs, no matter who it is.

We do not have other scholarship QBs that are capable (yet) of winning games in the Pac12. By (yet), I mean 2013.

And Fishback is? Lets be real, if Fishback was a solid proven QB, he would have other offers than WKU. As green as Dillon is, I'd rather give him a shot in case of emergency rather than give a scholarship to a mediocre QB who might be marginally better for a brief amount of time. We just went through a spell of offering mediocre QBs scholarships, would like that to end finally. I'm good with Dillon/Sefo as backups in case of emergency.

People are actually fine with Dillon, a redshirt freshman who suffered a serious shoulder injury the last time he faced live action and is rail thin at moment, as our primary backup? Say what?

I'm fine with that vs. giving out another questionable QB scholly. It's lame to see people putting Dillon down before he's even gotten to fall camp. It's 130 or so days till the opener, he's got time to improve. The skills are there.

I've seen nothing out of Fishback to give me confidence he's legit, but ok I'll humor this - what were his stats at his JC?

From a physical stand point Sefo is far more ready than Shane.

That really is not a lot of time, especially to put on some much needed weight and to correct a throwing motion. Some of the tools are there, but he is pretty far away IMO. That is not giving up on him, but rather acknowledging that expecting a skinny kid with poor mechanics is not best served just being thrown to the wolves if our starter goes down. You better be damn sure when it comes to young QBs because that "valuable experience" can end up doing more harm than good.

Not saying Fishback is the answer, nor am I saying Sefo as a true freshman is the answer. But let's say Dorman leaves this summer. Does a JUCO player with some playing experience essentially taking Dorman's spot really sound that bad?

I really wish he would have came here . esp. since Nick transferred . btw, I am soooo tired of this loooong winter.

Yep. I'm fine with it. We see young signal callers getting the nod pretty much all the time. It isn't like we are contending for anything. The catch-22 of football is that we want experienced signal callers at the top of the depth chart, but the only way for them to get experience is to actually play. I think the coaches can have Dillon and/or Sefo ready to be a backup come fall.

Wow, that makes two of you.

But wait, someone told me that Dillon would be up to a solid 240 by fall camp so no worries.

And as for Dorman, I kind of get the feeling he isn't going anywhere. He sort of won the lottery by getting a full ride despite not really having the talent to play at this level - I wouldn't be surprised to see him stick around and enjoy the free ride.

We need this kid or someone like him. We basically have no backup to Wood. Dillon clearly needs a lot more time and Sefo is a true freshman. Furthermore, as much as I am excited about Wood's improvement, we have no clue what we will see on Saturday's in the fall. I'm not holding breath on this kid coming. Knowing CU, I'm sure plenty of his credits won't transfer.
