Who looks worse - Rutgers or CU?

As people knowledgeable about college athletics, and those looking for schools for themselves or their kids, read and watch the news, who looks worse? Rutgers looks inept and is trying like hell to cover their failure to vet that lady. CU looks massively confused and like someone outside the university is calling the shots. If I were a parent, I'd want my kid to avoid both schools.

It's all a little hard to believe and pretty sad.

sadly - nothing at CU surprises me (or disappoints) me anymore... I have become numb to all emotions over the past 10 years... and we wonder why we suck? CU has lived up to their reputation finally

btw - rutgers sucks more

Rutgers looks much, much worse imo. In fact, I'm not sure that CU looks bad. With Rutgers, you had the mishandling of a coaching situation that included "abuse of players" and some prejudicial anti-homosexual language. They reacted by mishandling the new AD hiring with someone embroiled in her own scandal regarding "abuse of players" and something else regarding a wrongful termination of a woman who went to the new AD to complain about being harassed. Also, a lot of lying. Even the basketball coach who was hired looks to have lied on his resume about his education. State politicians are making incendiary remarks about the Rutgers President.

There's nothing positive in that situation.

With CU, they decided to move in a different direction when the person in charge wasn't successfully implementing a transformational vision on schedule. They'll endeavor to hire someone who will get this done. Not much negative there. It's not like Bohn was popular with major donors or former players.

Rutgers looks a lot worse. While I don't agree with the dismissal of Mike Bohn, I understand it was done with a purpose in mind.

We will look like fools if we screw up this hire, though.

Agree with BuffNik. I don't see how CU looks bad right now. It appears as if the move was made to improve fundraising, and to gain some momentum with what Bohn was already working on.

They are not trying to solve for institutional or NCAA violations. They haven't received any bad press with respect to how the AD office was being run (aside from lack of fundraising/facilities). Not sure why recruits, or parents of recruits, would have a problem with the AD being replaced.

Rutgers and it isn't even close.

1. Rutgers fired a coach for player abuse, and then replaced the AD who was also caught up in that scandal with an AD that has a history of player abuse.

2. Rutger's misstep is far more public.

CU appears to be a lackluster athletic program that fired its AD. That it did so out of sequence (with the football coaching hire) and amid local turmoil doesn't register to the general public.

how is this even a question?

Player abuse, failed vetting, lawsuits, basketball program bleeding due to a scandal.

vs

We fired the ad at a weird time.

The only opinions I've seen from a national level have been more along the lines of "Why did CU wait so long while the football team was falling so far and every other conference mate from the Big 12 and Pac-12 was announcing football facility upgrades while CU wasn't?".

I think the perfect example of Bohn's failure from a fundraising and sponsorship standpoint is the fact that he's been trying for years to secure a Folsom Field sponsor and has failed.

World viewed through cu2X's lens:

They fired the right football coach for the job before he was given a chance to prove himself. He was righting the ship and bringing integrity to CU. He was on trajectory for success, and the rug was pulled right out from under him. Insufficient consideration was given to the mess he inherited. Also, Mike Bohn is pure evil and lacks the integrity of even a banana slug.

World viewed through the 98% lens:

CU's football program was the worst in the nation (based on empirical on field performance), and amazingly in a position to get worse as recruiting was tanking even further. It was essential to demonstrate accountability, and anything else would have further embarrassed the Flagship of the University of Colorado system.

I think that's how you get to the "which is worse" place. Just a unique world view.

I just don't get it. CU decides to move in a different direction, or Bohn really did retire (not likely). We hire a highly respected interim AC and now we begin our search.

What is with all the craziness on this board?

two things:
1.) battered psyche from years of CU incompetance
2.) Suspect timing

1+2 = us expecting the worst.

You would want your kid to not go to CU because they fired an Athletic Director? That is, ummm, strange...

This cannot seriously be a question right? CU doesn't look bad at all! It fired an AD not due to any ethical issues or NCAA violations. It fired him cause his bosses were concerned about his fundraising ability going forward. They let go of him and he sent out a letter saying he resigned and wished the university good luck. IMO this is about as standard a separation as you get. Rutgers has some serious issues.

Unless you follow CU athletics or a big college sports junkie, you most likely haven't seen anything regarding the Bohn situation. The Rutgers thing is a big a national story. It's not even a fair comparison

CU = Three Stooges-like slapstick, good for some laffs. Rutgers = "Jackass"-like stupid, with injuries for all involved and no redeeming value.

Rutgers sure looks worse and the spotlight's on them since they are joining the B1G in a year.

Florida State fired/demoted their AD recently too.
