The "CU is a circus" angle is being overplayed

That is all I am hearing.

Completely lazy argument. Firing under-performing employees happens at schools all the time and those schools "want to win.". But CU decides it is tired of sagging fundraising and a horrible football program and the only logical conclusion is circus.

There is nothing controversial about this 'retirement'. Too many people with too much time on their hands...

It is a circus because if you were convinced that Mike Bohn wasn't the guy for the job, you should have forced him out at the same time you got rid of Embree. Instead, you create this image that you can't keep your school's name out of negative press for more than 6 months. It is like being addicted to an abusive relationship.

The timing is what makes this a circus, not the fact that they fired an under performing employee.

I think the timing is the result of something we can't see.
fify... CU isn't on a "normal" timeline regarding its AD right now. It's not just about hiring/firign football coaches. The #1 priority right now is actually fundraising, which is on a different timeline than the normal athletic schedule. If you think of it that way, the timing makes perfect sense. And, like I said in another thread, it might be a good thing that the new AD doesn't have to worry about being responsible for immediately fixing the FB program's win/loss column.

I think the timing is suspect.

Yep. It's not letting Bohn go that's odd, it's not letting him go eight months ago. Of course, the powers that be could be more Machiavellian than I thought and affirmatively decided to let Bohn absorb the abuse that came with firing Embree rather than have a new AD start his or her tenure with that act. Letting Barnett go alienated a certain percentage of CU fans/boosters, at least the new AD will come in with a clean slate.

I never Jenga'd him. Remember I was told one of Bohn's buddies was at a burrito stand pounding Pacificos at 930 in the morning. There was definitely smoke.

Lack of fundraising progress

I understand that angle, but I think it is a massive mistake to let Bohn hire the last football coach when he is gets fired 6 months later - especially after riding out the media outrage directed at CU and Bohn for the Embree firing. That is why this feels like a circus.

FWIW ASU pretty much did the same thing after Graham was hired.

Nearly everyone from other fanbases have not seen this as a circus.

Not a circus, just a surprise.

Decisive move that wasn't preceded by weeks of rumor, innuendo and speculation. Maybe Bohn forgot to pick up Benson's dry cleaning.

Not in that thread. I was referring to the ghosts of jengas past.

This firing does not make sense if it were for on the field reasons. But agreed with Darth this is 100% about funding. If you remember we were supposed to have announcements about facilities last fall. It kept getting pushed back and I thinks its pretty clear now the reason for that was we have no fundraising ability. Even after the announcement their has been no decernible push to get the first chunk of 50 million. And since Mac's contract is intimately related to the facilities upgrades there is no time to dink around. We cannot afford to miss the deadlines and lose another coach. My guess is that he was so far behind in fundraising that they were not gonna be able to catch up with his plan. Mike did a lot of good stuff but it is time for fresh blood and a new approach. Wish him the best.

But Ill tell you I now live on the east coast and this does not look like a circus to anyone not closely following the program. AD's get fired all the time, and this one was not for any violations or ethical issues so it is really not abnormal or a big deal
