Lappe's CU Buffs won't have it easy during non-conference play

The Colorado women's basketball team has tried to build a tougher non-conference schedule each year.

The 2013-14 schedule could be the Buffaloes' toughest in years.

CU's schedule is not official, as the program continues to try to fill one more game and tie up some loose ends with some matchups, but a pair of games against Big Ten opponents highlight the home portion of the schedule. The Buffs will also visit the national runner-up.

Glad to see that Buffs are going to be upping the ante with the non-conference schedule. It probably means they won't go undefeated for the third consecutive season prior to the conference portion of the schedule.

Glad to see that Illinois and Iowa will be here in Boulder. I wonder if we'll see Wyoming here as well?

Pretty sure I read somewhere that CU will travel to CSU and Wyo, in addition to Louisville.

You are correct, CU will be playing in Laramie this coming season.

@ CSU shouldn't be too hard - they were bad last season and I am not convinced they will be a lot better this time around, but @ Wyo could be more challenging as they are very well coached and run their offensive system very efficiently.

Given the roadie to at lousiville that is almost a given.

Beefing up the schedule needed to happen as part of the continued growth of the program back to national prominence.

I think this is the right level of scheduling for where we are. It's not a juggernaut, just an extra very good opponent versus last season.

I do worry that we'll take a step back this year without Chucky, though.

I do as well, a lot of it will come down to how much Arielle improves. That said Lappe and Chucky didn't have the greatest relationship.

Ya WBB wasn't tested enough during non-conf, or even during conf besides the top-tier teams. Losing to KU at home was disappointing

There will be several players who make be a difference this coming season. Arielle will be better served playing the 3 (small forward) as she has the speed and long range shot and can also defend on the perimeter. We all know she is quick and can handle well. IF she plays the 3 than Jen and Jamee can play power forward. They are good rebounders. The big question is who will pick up scoring from the perimeter from the backcourt. Kresl needs to be able to hit the trey consistently. Assuming B-Will starts at the point, she seems to be a decent outside shooter and plays with a huge amount of desire.

Glad to see the non-conference schedule is getting tougher.

I am happy to see the non-conference schedule being tougher. I thought the team played as a team last year and it wasn't all on Chucky's shoulders. I do think the weak non-conference schedule and the quality of teams in the Pac 12 did cost them the Kansas game. They just were not prepared emotionally or physically for that game.

I like seeing Iowa on the schedule and I hope it's a home and home series. That will be an away game for which I don't need a hotel room. It's a little over an hour away from me and I will attend if CU plays in Iowa City in 2014.

I am 99% sure that CU v Iowa is a home and home so we expect a nice recap of the game from you when the Buffs are in Iowa City.

Concerning scheduling. It's good to see the BUffs stepping up the scheduling, but at some point I would like to see former Big 8 foes on the schedule in home and home series. KSU, KU, NU, OSU or OU would all be good choices. And in terms of other teams how about we see "regional" foes such as New Mexico (last season), BYU, or Montana?

Of course, Wyo, CSU and DU should always be on the schedule as well as UNC and Air Force occasionally.

You will get a recap from me.

I'd also be in favor of CU taking on some of the old Big 8 foes, just make them within driving distance of me. Missouri is no longer in the Big 12, but the WBB team is definitely on the rise. Even with, ahem, Nebraska, in the B1G, the team is a good basketball team.
