Brooks: MacIntyre Waits To See How/Who Pistol Fits

COLORADO SPRINGS – Mike MacIntyre knows this much about what his offense will look like in his debut season at Colorado: In name, it will be the pistol.

Beyond that, most of what the Buffaloes do against Colorado State on Sept. 1 and beyond is TBD. What will determine the Buffs’ look (and undoubtedly much of MacIntyre’s first-year success) will be the play of his starting quarterback, who is TBD during August camp.

Wow. You mean, you can adjust the offense to highlight what your personel does best? And only runwhat they are great at, and not install a full super complicated offense that nobody understands??

Perish the thought!

Statements like this gives me hope that we finally have a staff that can coach their out if a wet paper bag. Is is September yet?

Maybe we won't see 3 or 4 deep fly routes per game to Tyler McCulloch.

You’ve got to have two or three, really three quarterbacks, who can play, I think. All of them might do something a little different with their talents. That’s the good thing about our offense; I believe we can fit it to the talents of the quarterback and help him be as good as he can be. That’s what we’ll do.
I am not familiar with this type of coaching. Also, who are our backup QBs? Gerhke and Schrock (assuming Liufau and Dillon are not ready)?

I know that MM and staff are doing their due diligence, but I am so sick of not having a starting quarterback going into fall.

Completely inaccurate miscomception. Wood is our starting QB going into fall. The coaches know it, the team knows it and the public knows it. Hell, it was even stated in the article. Just because there is ongoing competition doesn't mean we don't have a starter. I have zero problem with the coach stating that there's ongoing competition at any position. Competition keeps the starters from becoming complacent and it keeps the backups prepared.

See my above response to absinthe. The juco transfer last year was named the starter just weeks after arriving, even though Wood was the favorite going into fall camp, so nothing is guaranteed. Like I said, I know MM is doing his due diligence, but my point was that I am tired of not having an established starter that the team can rely on and who is receiving all the 1st team reps. My post was not an attack at the coaches or team, just me stating my own frustration.

I love the fact Coach Mac's primary emphasis is on speed. He's not going to give them too much because if they aren't knowledgeable, they lack confidence and lack speed.

Big big big differences between Wood last year and Wood this year. Wood is the official unofficial starter at this point and will get the 1st team reps.

And by the way, I'm pretty sure Fales at SJSU wasn't named the starter until a few days before their opener.

you are correct.

Fixed. Unless you can prove otherwise. The accuracy of "insiders" is highly questionable. Please refer to the hundreds of threads of ultimately inaccurate "insider" information posted to Allbuffs.

Actually, the article said today Wood would be the starter. So the incoming guys would have to unseat him.

Abs is usually spot on with his information, but hey you must have better information about right, no?

He offered this analogy: “In basketball, if you have a really good shooter, you want him to take a lot of shots. If he’s not a good shooter you don’t want him taking 25 shots. He needs to take about 10. That’s what we need to remember as coaches in football.”

Coaching rivalry brewing. MM is quite clearly taking a shot at Tad and his use of Ski last year. Suck it Boyle.

Uh yeah, check again genius. I posted an online news site link (Denver Post article is linked within the story) with the actual facts direct from the coaching staff. But hey, if you think unsubstantiated online rumor versus actual news is better information then by all means eat your heart out.

Why are we working a camp in Utah versus another in Texas, or Arizona or Califirnia? Do that many prospects actually cone from Utah?

I'm going to refer back to Abs comment...."Publicly you are correct."

Actually, the last few years Utah has become a bit of a hotbed. 46 kids from Utah signed in 2013. 24 kids from COlorado signed in 2013. All data according to Rivals.

Plus it's a border state. Impressive given that Utah's population is 2.855 Million as of 2012 and Colorado's is 5.188 Million.

Arizona had 97 signees with a populaton of 6.55M.

Utah - 16 signees per Million
Arizona - 15 signees per Million
Colorado - 4.6 signees per Million

It's the All Poly camp, so it's not just Utah kids (just only Polynesian kids). Cabral used to work it too. And I think it's just LaRussa, not the whole staff.
