The doom and gloom from ABers at this stage is kind of depressing. We are on our 3rd coaching staff in a handful of years and coming off our worst season in school history. I get that.

But we got a damn good coach who has been trained by some of the best in the biz. When we hired him noone thought he was going to turn us into a top 25 team this year, and almost everyone seemed resigned to the fact we would not likely get many 4 and 5* right away.

Why can't you guys show just a little bit of patience and a little faith in HCMM & Co? Can't we wait to crap on the parade after we finish out the class and finish out our first season?

If HCMM & Crew's experience at SJSU is any indication, it is reasonable to expect a 3 year turnaround to bowl contention and hovering around as a top 25 program. How many of us would honestly be disappointed with that outcome?

There is a correlation between wins on the field and quality of recruiting class-and vice versa of course.

So let's let HCMM prove on the field in the Fall what he and his staff are capable of doing in terms of having the team better prepared, making better game day decisions, better game planning in light of the talent we do have, etc.

I for one am on the HCMM bandwagon as long as we see progress on and off the field. We are already seeing progress in terms of the # of offers our commits have compared to the Embree years, we have seen progress in terms of Wood's night and day transition under HCMM and Lindgren, we are hearing that the staff is building bridges again to the in-state schools.

Go BUFFs!

This is the nature of CU fan, and one of the big problems with CU athletics.

Expect something incredible to happen, but provide absolutely no resources for it to happen.

CU isn't Oregon, or Alabama, or Oklahoma, or Texas, etc. But many CU fans (and ABers) seems to think it should be.

Haven't counted out even a bowl game for this season if CU gets all the breaks it needs in order for that to happen. Plus one winning season in the last seven years has been testing the patience of the CU faithful especially when 40-45k+ has consistently visited Folsom Field despite the product on the field.

I do like this coaching staff when it comes to the in-state recruiting emphasis but patience is needed in this case which is diffuclt to take.

I like HCMM. I realize the situation that he has inherited... I'm more down on our AD and administration than him. He might have been put in an impossible situation.

But I'm not going to get all giddy about our prospects in the future. I'm not sure this recruiting is going to keep us competitive in the Pac12. Hopefully the guy can coach like crazy and develop players - I'm sure the recruiting will come with some wins. But again, not going to get all excited at this point.

Can't we still have faith in MikeMac and criticize at the same time? I think our recruiting is going okay, but I'd be lying if I didn't hope for more.

I really believe that Paul Richardson and Connor Wood could become major Pac-12 players. They could help pull our offense out of the ****. To my mind, it's not out of the realm of possibility that PRich has a huge season and declares for the draft. I mean, I kind of see him like former Michigan State WR Devin Thomas (except not an idiot). Thomas was an athletic WR, about PRich's size and because of a strong QB (Brian Hoyer) he had a breakout season and left. I'd much rather Richardson graduates from CU, but no one could blame him if he breaks out and moves on.

Wood is good enough to win a bowl game. If he doesn't this season, he'll get a chance next season. He's a really good athlete and has almost ideal size for a QB. In my opinion, he's a great fit for the pistol and his leadership makes him a great fit for HCMM's new philosophy.

The new coach Mac looks like a great fit here. His whole team philosophy of being a family and respecting his players is going to play big here. I'm sure, that at some point, he'll be lured away by a bigger school, but I hope not. I hope he loves it here and stays long enough to bring CU back into the national championship discussion.

Lisa Simpson did not happen.
Katie Hnida did not happen.
Dan Hawkins did not happen.
Jon Embree did not happen.
We were not the absolute worst team in D1 football in 2013.
We have not been irrelevant since 2001.

We should be recruiting at least "minimum" at the level of mid PAC12. Better than Oregon State is not good enough, in year 1, after a decade of disaster.

We should be out-recruiting Arizona and ASU because they have never hit bottom like we have.

I don't think anyone is turning on coach Mac - not by a long shot, obviously we need to see how things go when we actually start playing games. There is some concern at the moment about our recruiting, and I think rightfully so. I want to be careful since this is a public forum but you can read all about it in Barzil.

Buff fans have been asked to be patient for over 10 years now, eventually someone needs to deliver the goods. You'll pardon fans for being a little grumpy when we have no faith in current CU administration, no athletic director, a search committee who just met, no apparent progress on facilities, and are looking forward to football season which would be considered a success if we managed to get to 4 wins.

I think it's just difficult to see CU athletics turning the corner at the moment and in the middle of summer people get cranky (I'm guilty too). Thank goodness for Tad.

With all those facts, why are you so surprised at the level of recruits who are considering CU????

Chicken or the egg? When does the cycle break? We can't get good recruits because the AD is a disaster, because we can't fundraise, because the football team doesn't win, because we can't recruit talent....on and on. There's always a reason for failure, but I'm tired of excuses and looking for something positive to happen at Dal Ward to finally give the program and the AD some momentum. To this point we've fired a bunch of people and hopefully their replacements prove to be major upgrades, and I'm hopeful about coach Mac. But I'm ready to see some actual progress instead of getting the standard response of being asked to be patient, followed by a list of all the excuses why we are where we are.

I'm not asking you to be patient. I'm just asking you to accept reality. It's not 1990 anymore. It's not 1994 anymore. It's not 2001 anymore. Those days are long gone. The lack of facilities, the anti-athletic (or at the best, incompetent) administration , the revolving door head coaches, etc. aren't excuses. They're facts. And they're not just things that CU fans notice. They're things recruits and families of recruits know, too.

As for "ready to see some actual progress" - when is the first game going to be played? September 1. Chances are it will be a year or two from that before you see any "actual progress."

I know we are in a public forum but I am totally with you. I don't understand why there are factions of the AB crowd who are unhappy when we get 3* athletes who have other offers-most of them have BCS and/or Pac 12 offers.

Honestly if you had asked me before this recruiting cycle what is my opinion of a realistic best case scenario I would have said-class average of 3* with maybe 1-2 4* committing by end of season. I would want virtually all of our commits to have at least 1 other BCS offers. I would have wanted us to beat out a few top flight schools for a few commits. I would have said I want to see progress in state, and that we are making headway into quality schools and athletes.

And I would have wanted to see real progress on the field in terms of about 4 wins and a significantly reduced margin of defeat to top tier programs. I would also like to see, in a dream scenario, one upset of a major Pac 12 team.

This represents my ideal scenario for our first recruiting cycle and first season under HCMM & Co. Given that every single goal I have is within reach, I don't see any reason, for panic or unrest amongst the AB crowd unless they had honest expectations higher than mine. If you did have higher than mine, I don't know how in the world you came to them.

I agree with everything except what is in bold. Of course it depends on how you define actual progress. For me actual progress is what I just wrote-a gradual increase in our recruiting rankings; an increase in wins this year; a decrease in margin of defeat this year; growing our in-state recruits; and a general indication we are clearly headed in the right direction. I think all of those things are reasonable to expect and that we will see them this year.

Some folks just can't be happy unless they're bitching.

I've continued to purchase season tickets and upped my donation to the school, despite the administration doing nothing to prove they care about athletics beyond "don't cause a scandal" and a complete inability demonstrate leadership. i've done my part...reserving the right to be snarky on the Internet and occasionally bitch about a lack of results is a reasonable expectation, consider it a coping mechanism.

Also I agree with the other's that there is a difference between complaining about the school administration and complaining about the team. It's just been too many years of banging our heads against the wall and being embarassed on the national stage, CU fans will show some pride when we have a reason to and not before. Just because folks aren't in full-on Kool-Aid mode doesn't mean we don't think Coach MacIntyre doesn't have a chance at turning things around (although most CU fans probably think if that happens then the admin will let an SEC school hire him away, because that's how our admin rolls).

Ok we need to move past this whole "we have the worst facilities in the PAC 12" mindset. I have never seen a list have us as the worst, they all have us right around the middle.

And it can't take a year or two to see actual progress, it needs to be shown on the field this fall. Progress means 3-4 wins this fall, which is completely realistic and will provide a bump in recruiting.

Ok -- who in the Pac 12 has worse facilities? Those are the teams I would realistically expect CU to compete with on the recruiting trail on a regular basis.

3 wins would be nice. 4 would be fantastic. Hopefully it does help recruiting some.

Truth be told, we're recruiting above where our recent record says we should. That's good enough for me. It's up to MM to show some progress on the field this Fall so we can continue to recruit above where our record says we should. The hole is so deep, it's going to take years to dig out. Years.
Most folks say you should know how good a coach is by his fourth year, when most of the players are his recruits. By his fourth year here, MM will just be starting to show what he's capable of - if we are lucky.
I'm patient because I have no viable alternative. The only other choice is to give up on the Buffs, and I'm not going to do that.

Colorado's hope is based upon what happened at San Jose State. San Jose State!

No one, at least not me, is saying blind faith based on SJSU. I am saying that the guy has been here a few months and some seem to want to throw him under the bus already. Let him prove himself by his actions off the field, his 1st recruiting class, and the on-field performance this season. Some ABers want to be judge, jury and executioner a few months after he arrived and in my opinion for no good reason.

HCMM has given us no reason to doubt him, including the early recruiting results. It's hard to argue we are off track to where we should be in the rebuilding process under HCMM.

I suggest you look again because this statement paints a deceiving picture. We have 8 commits right now (not counting the JC QB). Between those 8 players there are 9 BCS offers, and only 4 Pac 12 offers besides CU. 5 of the BCS offers are to one player who never played HS football. The other 4 are Arizona, Wazzu, and Utah twice - three teams that have been bad enough to account for 3 of Embree's 4 wins as coach.

Good post. I am behind Coach Mac and believe (since that's all I can do right now) that he has the chops to right this ship. We can still criticize/critique/complain, but the chicken little crap I read from some posts seems beyond the pale.

Not sure how anyone expects a 4-5* to choose CU over viable FBS programs (Wright & Crawley were kind of a fluke). I like what he's done so far: Wood's improvement, decent class so far, in-state recruiting. I'm convinced he will put a better product on the field from the first play and am looking for 30+ points against the Lambs.

I get people are concerned we are pinning our hopes on what he did at SJSU, but if there was a worse program than ours at the time, that was it. Plus it didn't have near the resources. With Coach Mac's experience, I think he's proven he can make us competitive at the FBS level...whether he has what it takes to get us in the Rose Bowl on a routine basis may be too much to ask of anyone. When rebuilt, I do expect bowl games every year, routinely be in the hunt for the PAC12 South and every 5-6 years make a run at the PAC12 championship.
