What in the Holy Hell does Ceal Barry think she's doing

Maybe it's just me ... but I don't see the problem with this. There is no doubt there's a shortfall in the AD budget concerning financial obligations vis-à-vis projected revenues. What's the problem with asking the various programs to trim back a little bit? It's a relatively short-term problem ... and she's proposing a relatively short-term solution.

Or would you propose that she go out into the backyard of the CU AD and just pick unlimited money off of the Money Tree?
 
We ought to go back to the Big XII. I thought we were going to get rich in the PAC. What happened with all that money we were going to make?
 
The problem is Barry is just fine with reminding everyone about our numerous issues in the AD. Give her the time and she will give some moron like Henderson exactly what he wants.

Exactly my thought. Have to cut somewhere. Don't for a second think this didn't come from a higher up as well.

The one problem I have with it is that I think football should be somewhat exempt from this. But to ask departments to be more fiscally smart isn't all bad. What I find amusing, though, is how managers always come up with "10%" as an arbitrary number.

10% is actually a lot for the football program compared to some other programs that may need to cut a package of pencils.
 
Why does this need to be public? In the midst of an AD search no less?

Yeah, that's my point.

I'll tell you one thing, I do not want Ceal Berry anywhere close to being the AD. That would be a disaster, IMO.

So we're desperately trying to turn football around...and the answer is to ask them to cut 10% as well to be fair to the other programs? Plus...the damn majority of all collegiate athletic departments run in the red. So why are we parading this story out now in the middle of the AD search...to freaking Henderson of all people?

Who's agenda is getting advanced by leaking this story now in the middle of a high profile AD search? Is Ceal trying to prove she can make the tough "business' decisions? Is someone on the academic side trying to embarass the AD during the search so that they have to cheap out again if the face of public outcry over the budget issues rather than paying someone a going rate that might actually have the talent to fix the damn issues? I know that sounds like knee jerk conspiracy theories but I don't trust anything that comes from the current admin.

Ah hell...who am I kidding, its probably shear run of the mill incompetence, the admin has consistently proven they can't do a damn thing related to supporting the AD without stepping on their own cranks.
 
Put a winning team on the field and the money will come. On the other hand, keep losing and make it impossible for local fans without cable bills to even see what you are up to and your eroded foundation will start to crumble.

We need to seriously get our academics in order if we want to be the next University of Chicago.
 
My 3rd will enter CU next month. I've had at least one in a state school the last 8 years. The waste I see for such things as Freshman Orientation and all the 'friggin mail my kids receive which is a complete and total waste of money and trees is frightening.

To ask the departments to cut back discretionary spending by 10% is nothing. Covered parking? Toll road to airport?

Why there is an announcement of this is baffling.

Here's a good first step. Fire DiStephano and don't replace him for 12 months. Things will improve.
 
Meh. I just don't care anymore. We honestly knew this was coming with the Big 12-Pac 12 transition. Personally, I think the University should foot the bill for the transition as the University leadership was 100% for the move. And yes I am currently paying tuition for grad school, so I am not just talking about how the University can spend other people's money without my own skin in the game.

Wake me when football season starts.

I just don't get it. They continue to feed the "CU is poor" narrative every chance they get. Even if somebody leaked it and Hendo came to Ceal for a quote she could've just given him some bs about the department always trying to make wise financial decisions. She might as well have called a press conference for this.
