John Schrock leaving the team

that is a shame o often thought he could be a serviceable back up.

This hurts a little, but not as much if he was on scholly.

Good luck John. Glad you're staying on campus to get your degree

Shocked by Strock! So, he's left the dock? Sorry if this comes across as a mock. But let's talk. Why did he walk? (Was he signed by Hawk?). Maybe Wood and Sefo rock and Mac told him he had no shot. Maybe not. Anyway, that is my thought.

Pretty much narrows everything down to Wood, Gehrke and Sefo. Makes the loss of Dillon a little more painful. Oh well folks, once the season starts, hold on to your butts.

Good luck to you John! And get that degree!

I guess maybe another side of the equation is that Mac & his staff can find a 4-5 star QB to fit into his system for the next few years.

Wood -> Gehrke -> Dorman/Sefo. Dorman would take snaps in an emergency rather than burn Sefo's RS.
Schrock didn't enter into any scenario's of getting playing time, so I don't see how that changes anything.

I'd prefer he'd been a scholarship player so it frees us up to get a one year rental if any were available to help the depth at QB. Since he was a walk-on and by all accounts ahead of at least one scholarship QB during his time here I'd appreciate having the depth.

Is Sefo and Jordan pushing the pack that we are seeing all these changes at QB? Best wishes to John and Shane, great Student-Athletes and will always be BUFFs for life. Who is next?

Not that big of a deal, really. If Schrock was going to play, then it was pretty much a lost season anyway...

Now down to

Gehrke, Wood, Sefo, Dorman on the roster from a log jam at the QB position before the start of spring practices.

I always feel a little pang of remorse over the "lost potential" of any of these QBs we lose. At the same time, I try to be realistic that we really keep harping about how we don't have enough competitive Pac-12 talent on our team...and this makes more room for that. They are all Buffs in my mind...so best of luck to them. I hope we fill their slots with even (potentially) greater talent. Good luck John!

If Dorman sees any live action:cry: Also this has been done all summer

Dorman has improved, slider.

I'm not saying he's ready to play significant action, but he's a smart kid with good fundamentals & a background of being well-coached in the game. He'll keep working on the field and in the gym. It would not shock me if our coaches decided we could go with Wood and that Dorman could be the backup for the first month of the season until Webb is back. This way, we can redshirt Gehrke and Sefo to get a clean QB depth chart that has 1 QB in each class for 2014. In that scenario, a long-term injury to Wood would cause the redshirt to come off Sefo or Gehrke but otherwise they'd sit.

RS-Senior: Webb
RS-Junior: Wood
RS-Sophomoe: Dorman
True Sophomore: Gehrke
True Freshman: Liufau
Incoming Freshman: Apsay

Depth matters - Ask Maryland if they expected true freshman LB Shawn Petty to play QB at any point last July.

The attrition at QB was LONG overdue. Carrying upwards of eight QBs was never sustainable and it just seems a lot worse because it is all happening in one offseason.

The coaches have some work to do in not only getting Wood ready, but they really need to start developing depth. The coaches also need to be looking hard at 2015 QBs in California this fall. They probably do not have the luxury of waiting until next June to offer some guys.

Is Webb even in the equation? Oh, and thank God Schrock's name isn't Schruck. That would su... Ok, I'm done. Enough neg rep already!

Didn't that Gorman kid play qb in hs? We have some injuries at qb, he might have to be an emergency guy. I remember Hines Ward doing it at Georgia one year.

When I suggested that Gehrke and Sefo could RS this board melted down. I am sure though that MM would love to not use them unless he sees them taking Woods job before his eligibility expires.

Totally agree.

Yes, and so did Josh Moten. Given the fortunes endured last six seasons, it isn't hard to imagine reading a November DC article mentioning one of these two guys taking practice reps at QB.

HCMM said we would be down to three QB's by the end of spring ball. His timetable was a little off, but we're finally getting there. Don't know what the big deal is as Schrock was near the bottom of the chart.
