Still going on.

I just asked him:
Hello Coach. Several teams in the Pac have been implementing up-tempo offenses. I have never understand why no prior coaches at CU have implemented such a style in Boulder with our altitude.I know you will be doing a pistol and spread style offense and have heard we are going up tempo. Can we expect the offense to be as up tempo as say Oregon or Arizona?

His answer:
We did different tempos at the schools I've been at before. We will do different tempos at Boulder to use the altitude. I agree with you.

Also thought this latest exchange was interesting:

Victor (Denver)
Coach, is there a particular position grouping you see on the team that stands out as a strength above the rest? And is there a position group that you'd like to shore up a little more than the rest prior to CSU?

Mike MacIntyre (11:10 AM)
I think our receiving corps, we have six or seven guys that can do something different. The combination of them is good. Then we hav 3-4 RBs that can make some plays. Those are two areas where I think can be playmakers for us.

I agree about the tempo. It was so shameful to see whoregon come to Boulder and gas us on our own field. WB couldn't even get the plays in before the play clock expired.

I submitted a question asking if he had met Kiszla or Hendersen in person yet, if he had told them that a 13 year virtual smear campaign was long enough and to get on-board or be quiet. Not surprised that one didn't make the cut but I figured at least there was a chance of HCMM seeing it!

As for RB, I think we have some guys that can do things but run blocking will have to improve. Other than the Addison Gilliam blown assignment in the Spring Game, it seemed that the O struggled with running almost all spring.

Meh, Oregon gases just about everyone. We do need to use the altitude to our advantage, glad MM understands that.

Water bottle and Juice Box sang the exact same tune with zero actual implementation of an up tempo offense at altitude. Let's wait to see if it actually happens before we acknowledge that MM truly gets it.

Can you provide links featuring said comments?

Took about 10 seconds. Now how about your show proof that MM has established and utilized an up-tempo offense at Colorado.

How about I just use SJSU last year seeing as how it's the same play caller. I also have no reason to not believe MM and Lindgren since a lot of their talk is backed up by their resumes, where as Embree had nothing to support his comments (both coaching it and executing it) and I don't recall Hawkins' time at Boise much.

I don't remember Hawk talking about it but it probably did. Embree and EB definitely talked about wanting to do it but 2 things at least got in their way:
1) Incompetence as coaches to execute it
2) Less than ideal personnel to execute it

I believed they tried for like a series at CSU and it was all f'ed up. I am pretty sure HCMM gets it and will in fact use it if he has personnel who can run it. As we all know he seems to build his schemes around the capabilities of his players so he won't go overboard on up tempo unless/until he has the right kids in place.

But here's hoping he has enough of what he needs to implement a version of it this year and moves forward w/ more in the future.

MM's going to have concentrate on moving the ball consistently before we worry about the tempo. Beyond Embree/EB & Hawk's lack of ability to implement a hurry-up, they both put out pretty anemic offenses. Does no good to hurry-up and go three-and-out--which is basically what we saw at the beginning of the CSU game last year. You need that good gain on first down, maybe move the sticks once or twice before things can get rolling. It was rare that Hawk or Embree's teams ever got that kind of momentum, that's usually when they'd get a stupid penalty.

From spring reports, weren't we hearing that everything around the offense was much quicker/more up tempo?

Or in the Utah game momentum on offense was usually ended by a Hirschman pick.

FYI, out of curiosity I just searched for the 2012 season statistics on plays per game in college football. Surprisingly Colorado had more plays per game (Rank 54, ppg=73.9) than SJSU (Rank 67; ppg=71.9).

Of course they were not playing in Boulder and they had different players going against totally different defenses. As CUfan and TD suggest, however, it may take time before we have the personnel and capability to effectively run it.

I'm guessing our defense had a lot to do with this.

When your defense gives up scores in 2 plays, your offense if going to have more plays.

Except I would guess we had among the most 3 and outs in the country on top of a negative turnover margin so I still wouldn't have thought we would have had that many. We were ranked 123rd out of 124 in turnover margin (-1.7).

Edit: FYI, I have been using teamrankings.com for the data in this thread. We all know how bad last year was but if you want to puke, or on the contrary, feel optimistic about our chances to improve over last year, look at our team rankings on key stats: http://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/team/colorado-buffaloes/stats

How many times do I have to explain that we ARE NOT SJSU. Your entire argument is simple conjecture until we have a large enough sample of actual game snaps at Colorado to prove it. So my point stands that we have heard the talk before with the walk not backing it up, thus you have every reason to doubt MM given the actual history AT COLORADO.

Why in the hell does it matter if we are SJSU or not? Did most of the staff come over from there? Yup. Are there different players? Yup but MM believes the WRs to be a strength of this team which helps in the hurry up. Can we expect a similar offense that was ran seeing as how it's the same coaches? I don't see why anyone would expect anything different. Using that and other observations you come to the conclusion that MM does intend to utilize the hurry up at times, the school is irrelevant in this.

I think both prior staffs would have liked to execute a hurry up. I think they came to the conclusion that burning the clock was their only hope.

I am not saying this sarcastically. I remember EB throwing out his whole offense abut 10 plays into the CSU game. I hope CU has the execution to perform a hurry up. On paper it has made sense for years.

You guys are speaking the same language here. Tini is using past performance to project what Big Mac and staff will do here in Boulder, which is not an unreasonable tactic. Buffedup is just pointing out that until games are played, it's just a projection and there is no way to be completely sure; nothing provocative or controversial about that statement. In a little over a month, we'll get our answers.

[h=6]Sebastian (Baltimore)[/h]

What are your goals for the season?
[h=6]Mike MacIntyre (11:09 AM)
[/h]

First of all, we set individual goals for each young man. They have goals that they're working towards. Then we set goals for defense, offense, ST. Then each game we play, we have goals for each game. Each game, the goal is to win each game. We have specific details, that each player needs to reach, each coach. Not just win a certain percentage of games.

This was maybe my favorite comment. HCMM is an experienced and proven leader. His attention to detail on all levels will pay off. Just like in any business, it takes small goals to get to the big goals. I guaranty there was a major lack of this in past years.

Really excited to see this program take shape.

Lets hope they get the play called on time and get the snap count first, so they don't burn up timeouts in the 1st quarter.
