"The season was total "dysfunction," Bakhtiari said, and it was rooted in a "lack of performance, lack of preparation, lack of caring." He puts it on the players. When Bakhtiari watched film two, three games at a time, he remembers teammates flocking to "Ladies Night" at a local bar each Thursday."

"On a team where you don't have the Eddie Lacys and Alabama reputation with that, you have to take every advantage you can," Bakhtiari said. "I understand guys want to have fun. But for me, I guess I had a different agenda."

So, didn't hit up many ladies nights.

Great for Bahktiari as an individual, but this doesn't say much about his "leadership" as Captain"! That a guy as tough, focused and physical as he is, clearly didn't exert any "in-your-face whoop-ass" leadership for his teammates or turn to the coachs for help, is astounding to me; particularly after reading in this article about his maturity and handling his older pro teammates in GB. Surely, he could have done the same with his college peers.

He should have torn the "C" off his uniform after Fresno. IMHO he quit on his teammates as a captain, much as they quit on the season. It seems his whole last season was just a steppingstone to the League to him, nothing more. He can bit*ch at his his CU teammates now, but what did he do to try and change things? Not much apparently.

But, then too, just more embarrassing revelations for the arrogant WB&CO: No training or plans for leadership among the squad.

While he puts it on the players, everything I read in the article puts it squarely on the coaches. If you have zero discipline on and off the field, you have nothing.

Article basically said half the team quit. He says his job was hard because he had 3 different QBs and all had a different drop back depth.

For all you boobs out there who wanted to keep Embree around, read this story. What a complete embarrassment.

Well I'm glad he was the only one working hard. The one of 105 players

I didn't read anthing to imply that he was the only one or that he thought he was the only one. The article includes a quote from Nick Kasa talking about guys quiting as well.

Can you criticize him as a captain, I don't think so. Maybe he and the other seniors could have done some stomping around and dented some locker room walls but the leadership comes from the top and in this case the leadership from the top was either completely lacking or even counter to those who wanted to win.

It's great to see Bak doing well in the pros. Despite his terrible experience with JE and staff he continues to be positive about CU overall.

It's no wonder he left early. He's just saying what everyone has known for awhile... film study the last two years was embarrassing and it obviously showed in games.

fify

I have given up on trying to find something that JE and his staff did well and am now reduced to trying to find something they did at what would even be considered poor but normal for a BCS level program.

The players aren't stupid. They eventually figured out that they had no chance to compete with this staff in place. Some continued to work hard for personal reasons, pride, or their own inate sense of integrity. Some went through the motions trying to do well but lacking the motivation to do well, others just threw in the towel and did the minimum to stay on the team but put their interest and energies into other things including ladies night.

I am surprised this thread hasn't blown up. This is very damning on at least last year's program from a former player who is now in the NFL. To me it sounds completely justified and reinforces what we had already heard. But few current and former players have been as open about what happened last year.

Not sure why people think Bak should be blamed. I am sure he made an effort to rally the troops and I am sure he wasn't the only one, but WB&Co created an atmosphere which led to a divided locker room and apathy. We saw the results.

This is exactly why some of us are believers in HCMM and the potential for a relatively quick turnaround. Sure we need more BCS talent but the real reason for the embarrassing results last year was bad, ineffective and divisive leadership.

Any players on the roster from last year who were part of the apathy-I sure hope they have bought in or have been kicked off already.

I told this board this months ago and was shouted down. It's no secret much of the football team has the attitude Bak described in the article. I just graduated, and saw this kind of apathetic behavior countless times from 2009-2013.

I hope you are not implying that only a small part of the board believes in MacIntyre.

And your last sentence is just not possible in six months. There will still be issues.

True, I am not going to call players out, but you could see them half assing their way around....especially on D. Link no longer works. Plati strikes again?

Hmmmmm. Well, it's one thing for us on the outside looking in to speculate about things going on with the team...it's another thing to have it confirmed so blatantly by someone who was in the mix. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised, given the results of what we saw on the field, but it sure makes you just scratch your head even more.

It DOES make you question the intense loyalty and the outrage shown by Joel Klatt and friends over the "premature" firing of Embree if this was the state of things in the locker room and with the program. If anything, that should have been a red flag to anyone with actual playing experience that things were going seriously astray.

As someone else on this thread already said, the good news potentially is that the coaching made us worse than our talent might otherwise warrant if they were coached properly. I still don't think we have a lot of talent...but a good staff might do much more with what we DO have (given what we are learning every day about how dysfunctional the old staff was...even more than we already knew). Richardson is back too. I have my doubts about his durability, but I think simply having that weapon in your arsenal changes our entire offensive potential (and changes what defenses can do against us).

I wonder if we will hear anything from the former Embree defenders on the radio and whatnot about this sort of info beginning to leak out from former players? I wonder if they will still feel a program with that sort of leadership deserved another year to run the program into the ground more...

And to add to Duff, the majority of people out there are followers, not leaders. They take their direction from those around them.

The fact that certain kids threw in the towel last year and didn't put out the effort doesn't mean that they are hopeless and can't contribute. Let's see how they respond to new coaching, to the attempt at creating a new attitude on the team.

If they continue to slack, continue to fail to work to achieve their potential and fail to make their contribution to the team, then get the maximum value out of them and use them as an example but sending them on their way.

With quality leadership it is reasonable to expect that a good number of them will get with the program and do their best to contribute.

Ihave no ill will towards JK, but it is painfully obvious he was flat wrong, in every respect, on the Embree issue.

No you won't. As time goes on it becomes more evident, even to them that they were defending the indefensible. Their loyalty to a teammate, to a former Buff, to "one of them" got in the way of seeing what the real situation was. People say the scoreboard doesn't lie, in this case it does but only in that things were worse than the scoreboard showed.

If M2 fails and we continue to flounder then you will hear the JE supporters again saying "Look, it wasn't Jon, it was the situation." On the other hand if M2 has even modest success they will convieniently stay silent or even try to give some of the credit to JE saying he built a foundation.

Just because somebody played the game doesn't mean they know much about coaching or in fact anything other than their position or responsibilities. In this case loyalty and emotion got in the way of common sense. The team was crumbling around him and Embree was clueless how to stop it.

You don't go 1-11, getting blown out countless times, without having categorical and systemic failure (obviously). What Bak is saying here about the coaches is correct, but I watched him very closely last year, and he could have cared less about what the scoreboard said, or at least he didn't after Sac St. When he says he "kept working hard" etc., he was working on his draft stock. I hope he does great in the NFL and has a long career. But last year we needed someone to get in the faces of guys who were quitting, and calling them out in meetings and on the field. We needed someone to kick ass on the field, take responsibility for their errors (pretty sure everyone made countless ones), and hold others accountable when they were missing assignments/missing tackles/missing blocks/running the wrong routes/getting burned. This is the issue with so many of Hawk's guys, the "don't get too up or too down" attitude that was instilled. It has almost dissipated.

I think you're on to something here. Why didn't the "captain" try to do anything about other players' actions? Season long captains are not only on duty on gamedays.

I have no problems with Student Athletes having fun. You have to be able to work hard and play once in a while to avoid burnout.

Can you link us to the thread where you said this and were "shouted down"? I want to see what that looks like. Thanks in advance.

Not everyone is a natural leader or, in particular, an in-your-face type of leader. He was probably not well-suited for the captain role.
