Wow didnt think the NCAA had the chops.....

Oh wait they dont.

Johnny Football suspended...

...for the first half against Rice. What a joke.

NCAA cannot prove Manziel accepted money, but he did break the rule that states he has to try and prevent the sale of merchandise with his signature/likeness on it.

title:12.5.2.2 - use of a student-athlete's name or picture without knowledge or permission.
if a student-athlete's name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., t-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete's knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics. Such steps are not required in cases in which a student-athlete's photograph is sold by an individual or agency (e.g., private photographer, news agency) for private use. (revised: 1/11/97, 5/12/05)

fail

NCAA and SEC have a different definition on accepting money than everyone else. When you have Cam Newton setting the case law there is really nothing left.

A thought just occurred to me... On ESPN commercials they will say "Can the Oklahoma Sooners stop the amazing Johnny Manziel", isn't that selling Manziels name for viewership?

I don't have much doubt he took money. Since when does the NCAA investigate this quickly, usually takes their ass forever? If he played at CU, they would have suspended him for the year. ****ing joke lol.

Wow, you don't get it, do you? YES, of course it is (selling his name). That's what the NCAA wants - the sole rights to make money off of the college athletes' names while they're in school.

I'm not an NCAA fan, but I also don't feel sorry for the moronic athletes who knowingly break the rules, no matter how stupid they are. Let the courts or some crappy marginal player be the test dummy and just play and enjoy your free education at this point. I'm typing this as I'm looking at a student loan payment, so I'm a bit pissy regarding this stuff right now.

Manziel is a moron and a colossal distraction. Lazy journos love him.

Good thing we banned Jeremy Bloom from football for accepting sponsorship money in an unrelated sport.

I'm glad he's playing. 'Bama and LSU have scheduled bye weeks prior to the aTm game.

Nobody banned Jeremy Bloom.
Effectively they did. They gave him a choice, which wasn't really much of a choice. Turns out he would have been better off doing whatever he wanted to, and putting the earnings into a trust so he cold claim he wasn't receiving any benefit.
