I know why we did it, and I suppose it can be justified. It wasn't necessary, though. CSU was done. They weren't going to score twice. They weren't going to score once.

And, I freaking loved that we did it. Going for two, after torching them for a 75 yard TD, was the ultimate "eat s.hit" moment, and I loved it. That was probably as happy as I've been as a CU football fan in many years.

Right in front of their students too.

You know, a lot of my happiness in all of that really has nothing to do with CSU. It's just the entire attitude after 6 years of complete and utter crap.

Yes CSU was done at that point but I think it helps send a good message that we will pay attention to detail and play to win till the end. This team has been through enough collapses and other stupid stuff that it's worth keeping up the message.

A lot of us including players and coaches though that Kansas was finished when Hawkins quit coaching in the game that turned out to do him in.

As yes I loved the call and the execution on the play. If you are going for two you better get it.

I'd hate to be a DC responsible for trying to figure out what M2 and Lungren are going to do next.

It absolutely was the right call - not sure what there is to complain about that.

Well, considering there was about an 80% chance they would return our following kickoff for a touchdown, and follow it with an onside kick, I'd say it was the right call in addition to the head-humping psychological aspect of it.

Up 12 with too little time left for the other team to score a TD and 2 FGs but theoretically enough time for the other team to score twice. Of course you go for 2. 13 is no better than 12, while 14 gives some extra security.

Need to go for 2 there. Not going to be kicking fg's at that point so making it 14 was crucial. Yeah, highly unlikely they'd score, but you gotta do it to be safe in a worst case scenario.

Hey, I'm not complaining. I effing loved it. You guys can justify it all you want. It wasn't necessary, and I don't care.

The thought of Neinas having us prepared to recover an onside kick is horrifying at the moment

I was thinking kick it because 40 points sounds a lot better than 39.... I hadn't even done the math at that point and then they lined up for two, so I did the math, looked at the clock, thought what the hell, probably won't be necessary.... Then we scored the 2 and it felt like rubbing salt into those lame lambs wounds. Loved every minute of it. Icing on the cake.

Well played HCMM.

I'm choosing to believe HCMM has an asshole streak in him instead of it being the logical move here. Well done!

But...it was necessary at the time. You're trying to create something from nothing here. It isn't like our staff thought, "Hey, the game is over, but let's really stick it to the Rams!" It was simply the right call, based on the score and the amount of time remaining. And it really is as simple as that.

Yes, Sacky, that play was a STATEMENT and it took the air out of CSU.
You celebrated that play as if you rewound the clock to your student section days!

A somewhat comparable situation would be Washington State 2011. Granted, CU was only winning by 10 when we scored with 5 minutes left. Then Washington State got 2 TDs in the last 2:30. We thought that one was over, too.

The real asshole statement against CSU would have been scoring when we got the ball back with 1:30 remaining.

I didn't know this was in question after the lack of special teams coverage, but yes, it was awesome. Even for those that don't think it was necessary, it was great practice for when we really do need it.

(Now waiting for someone to say, "but we just showed a play we could have used later in the season)

Chip Kelly agrees with you.

I am not as down on Neinas as much as everyone here. Yes, they missed some tackles. But the punter and kicker did great, there were no punts even close to being blocked (all too common the last few years).

I like mistakes that the kids can focus on when they didn't kill us this game. If it is a common thread all season it will be different. All in all, while not perfect, I thought special teams were better than the last few years. I also saw a couple blocks in the back that should have brought those returns back that were not called . Some good, some bad, I am not making a condemnation on Toby yet.
