Thursday night was interesting.

VA Tech, with that defense, should be a great football team. WTF happened to Logan Thomas? Even when he has a good statistical game he doesn't look elite and VA Tech doesn't dominate on offense despite all the skill players Logan has around him.

GA Tech's OL was completely overmatched in this one, btw. I think they struggle in ACC play this year.

The other game was Iowa State at Tulsa. Tried watching. Both teams are horrible. Poor QB play and a lack of speed / playmakers for both sides. Iowa State won, but Tulsa mistakes had a lot to do with it. I think their RB fumbled 4 times in the 1st half - and ISU still had trouble pulling away.

Friday Night Games:

Utah State at San Jose State (7pm Mountain on ESPN). This could be a good one.

Middle Tennessee at BYU (7pm Mountain on ESPNU). MidTen isn't bad and it would be hilarious to see the Longhorn meltdown if they went into Provo and beat this 1-2 BYU squad.

Logan Thomas is just not a good QB. People got overwhelmed in hyping him up in the immediate Cam Newton aftermath (and Thomas had his best weapons by far that 2011 season). The last two years have been ugly. UGLY. Last night was his best game of the season -by far- which says something.

It's a nice win for VT to get on the road. I just have a hard time seeing them go anywhere with an offense that atrocious. They completely luck out and miss both Florida State and Clemson, so they'll hang around in the Coastal Division race. Next week at home vs. North Carolina is a huge one. Everyone will be chasing Miami in that division, though.

Georgia Tech's schedule is not kind this year. 7-5 team.

The Coastal is pretty wide open, I don't think Miami is going to run away with it. The Atlantic on the other hand simply comes down to October 19th.

Logan reminds me more of a Leftwich than a Newton. Leftwich was a good college qb tho, Logan's game is crap.

For those of us not living where they talk ACC football nonstop... can we assume that's the day Free Shoes plays Clemency?

It's going to be a weird year if neither Clemson nor Florida State trips up at a random 7-5 team.

Agree both are better than Miami, but Miami's visit to Florida State on Nov. 2 is a big one.

It would be weird because it would mean that an ACC team is in the national title hunt at least until the last 2 weekends when Clemson plays South Carolina and FSU plays Florida, and then the CCG a week later.

Utah State is a very solid team, but SJSU has certainly declined quite a ways from last season. No idea how many starters they brought back this year, though.

Texas should be ashamed of getting rolled by this BYU team. I mean, I know they're ashamed. But they should be whatever word means really, really ashamed.

Yep. It's become apparent at this point that the BYU that showed up against UVA, Utah and now Middle Tennessee State is the real BYU. They're a 6-6ish team (if they win this game). As we've discussed before, a down BYU is in our interests so go Blue Raiders.

I feel kinda bad rooting against SJState, but the worse they look, the better HCMM(and staff) looks for the future.

Fales doesn't seem to be playing with nearly as much confidence as last year - same for the rest of SJSU. Here's to hoping the difference really is McIntyre and Co. Would be nice to see Wood put up somewhat comparable numbers.

You can see the talent is there with Fales though. He made several NFL-caliber throws last night.

Yep. And no one looks good throwing while getting knocked on his ass. I'm feeling like we were lucky that SJSU didn't roll the dice by offering Lindgren a HC job at his young age.

I thought it said that Utah State set a team record last year against San Jose State with 13 sacks so I can't imagine Fales looked that good against them last year.

Last year for Fales against USU: 38/50, 467 yards, 9.34 ypa, 3 TD, O Int.

Well apparently you can look good while getting knocked on your ass.

Yeah. They got whipped and I don't know when the yards came, but Lindgren definitely found a way to move the ball despite the USU defense overwhelming the SJSU pass protection.

P.S. I looked that up after I'd posted since I was curious. I didn't remember a bad statistical game for Fales all last year. Ridiculous that you could take that many sacks and put up those numbers.

I hope WVU and Oregon never play each other based just on uniforms.

On another note, the Okie Lite/WVU game has been great so far.

Okie Lite pulling their patented choke job. Big 12 is so bad.

Today may be one of the few times I root for Notre Dame. If they take down Oklahoma, we don't have to worry about the Sooners getting into the title game. And a higher-ranked bad Notre Dame team is good for the Pac-12 with the conference having 3 games coming up against them.
