Lyerla has tripped to UCLA and USC but remains uncommitted.

Isn't Hillsboro where Woelk is now managing editor of the newspaper?

This is a Portland suburb. Woelk is going to a small town in the NE part of the state near the Washington border (can't remember the name).

He's from a very small town, apparently, maybe we can sell him on "Boulder is better than LA."

Accompanying Moala on his [USC] trip was four-star athlete Colt Lyerla, four-star defensive end Brennan Scarlett and four-star defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.

While Moala is hardly familiar with downtown Los Angeles, he felt like a tour guide in comparison to his peers.

"We all came from different environments," said Moala. "The running back from Oregon (Colt Lyerla) said he lives in the middle of no where. The only lights he sees at night are the lights from the stars. Even though I'm not from L.A., it was great showing him around. I just liked seeing him react during the visit."

Damn. I guess my expectations for recruiting this year were waaaaaay off. Thought this staff could get some of these guys but in reality, keeping hawk around, late start and only 12-16 schollies makes this recruiting season a wash.

Would like to see this staff land a couple of suprises though, they have been touted as great recruiters and should be a able to land a couple gems, especially next year.

Yeah, given time I'm sure they can get some highly touted guys, but it's always going to be tough getting a guy away from his home state national championship contender...

Trust me we are WAY better off not getting this kid. I coach up here in Oregon and this kid is a BIG risk. They've had to sweep a lot of his shiit under the rug his whole HS career from Weed to drinking to many other discipline problems. BIG showboat too Although he can back it up on the field. if they let him play that is. But he was that whole team for the most part. He was never going to leave the state of Oregon anyway. It was either OSU or UO.

he will fit good in oregon then as long as he is fast

There's more to this than "getting ready for the NFL". There is a time and place for that. Quitting your team midseason is so DScott-esque....

Much more likely to be Aaron Hernandez part deaux than Tony Gonzalez.

Rumor from Oregon is he likes yay a little too much.

Kid has always been a headache. Will be interesting what the NFL does. There is always that one team

I don't know the Hernandez back story very well but Colt doesn't come from a rough part of the Portland area. Hillsboro is a mix of farming and suburbia.

He's a headcase but I doubt he rises to the Hernandez level.

So the "professional career" isn't referring to a desire to become a dentist? Can't say I wish him luck in pursuing an NFL career right now, only that he pulls his head out in general.

Likely going to cost himself a bunch of money doing this.

He is talented enough that somebody in the league will give him a shot. At the same time leaving a team mid-season without a good explanation will label him as a headcase and risk and move him down a lot of draft boards. His rookie contract is likely to be much smaller than it would have been had he stayed the year then come out.

Maybe Waldo should defend Colt's rights as a conspiracy theorist...

http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/63011/lyerla-quitting-oregon-is-an-addition-by-subtraction

Lyerla's immaturity has made headlines for the wrong reasons, starting with his idiotic tweets supporting conspiracy theories surrounding the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut. Lyerla never seemed to grasp that it wasn't just that he was being offensive. It was that he was being cuckoo. His lame apology left out the fact that his tweets were completely ignorant, representative of folks on the Internet who specialize in something called "Making Stuff Up."

Arrested tonight. Cop saw Colt snorting coke in his car. Sad. Stupid. Throwing away millions.

Winner, winner!

There will be one team that is willing to look at Lyerla as an undervalued asset if they can bring him into a "System" and change him (or even if they can't). If he keeps it together for his rookie contract and produces, he'll get his money.
