Joseph Young cleared at Oregon

Finishing in the top three spots just got tougher for our Buffs.

How does Oregon get every upperclassman transfer eligible immediately wthout sitting out? He isn't even a 5th year guy. Kazemi got eligible last year too without sitting out. What a joke. I hope the NCAA changes something up because Oregon/Nike really exploits this rule.

HUGE news for Oregon. I honestly think they have the best backcourt in the P12 now. If Moser is back to '11-12 form and Carter can pick up a little of the slack, they'll be deadly by the end of the year.

As for people getting upset about Oregon exploiting the rule - I can't hate them. We'd do it too if we had the right player/situation. Good for them. If you're going to hate anyone, hate the NCAA.

Yeah. I already got that covered. There's room for more hate.

Can you explain what rule they are exploiting?

The Hardship rule. It's totally arbitrary on who is allowed to play immediately and who isn't. In Young's case, he's apparently eligible to play immediately because his Dad was given a different job at the University of Houston where he played. Meanwhile, Ahmad Starks transferred to Illinois to be closer to his dying grandmother in Chicago. He can't play this year because Champagne is more than 100 miles from Chicago.

NCAA is so full of ****. The fat guy from UCLA is immediately eligible at Georgetown with 2 years of eligibility despite playing in games the past 3 seasons. Meanwhile, some dude from ODU has to sit out this year and lose a year of eligibility because he played in a preseason scrimmage at (I think) Clemson last year.

Thanks for trying to explain the rule. It seems like no logic is involved.

I think the original intent of the rule had merit, but the way that it's been exploited is ridiculous. Joesph Young IMO had a reasonable excuse to want to transfer. His father was on staff and was basically demoted off of the staff and relieved of any coaching duties. If that constitutes "hardship" I guess that is up for debate, but as Buffnik points out, what was Josh Smith's hardship at UCLA? The rule was intended for guys like Trent Lockett who transferred from ASU to Marquette so he could be closer to his mother who'd been diagnosed with cancer and lived in Minneapolis.
