Response from CU Admin / Cops at Sackygate

Don't ask me to print the name of who responded to me. But the response below did originate from someone in charge at Game Management & Operations Department within the AD. We'll see if they actually show up and engage us in a civilized manner. If they do, I'll give them a doughnut. I might add that my e-mail ended up in the hands of some assistant who forwarded it to the person in charge, there comment was; I've got another tailgate complaint and they say they have video. Will you handle this one?

That is very troubling to hear. I will be taking the matter up with our Campus Patrol Commander. The officers should always engage patrons in a civilized and customer oriented manner. ---

I would find it more troubling that there are places on campus that certain departments have deemed off limits to tailgating. We expect cops to be assholes. What we don't expect is to be told to get off the grass for no apparent reason.

I haven't been following the whole saga, but just checking: are you copying, or planning on copying, all this to the new AD? If you are trying to build a fandom, you don't treat them poorly.

AJ -

I sent a separate long winded e-mail to RG expressing the treatment of tailgaters, and how it hurts the goals the Admin is trying to achieve. I also described in detail what took place at the tailgate last week. I closed the letter to RG by saying that it appears to many fans & alum there are elements within various parts of the CU Admin that want to be part of the problem and not the solution.

We had the same problem at our tailgate. At first they were trying to tell us to pack everything up (including a full buffet spread being catered by Brewery Bar) because we were allowed to park there but not tailgate supposedly. Luckily where we parked had an angled concrete section that was pretty wide so we argued that everything was on the concrete and not the grass and that shut them up pretty quickly.

I almost feel bad for the cops on this one, I kind of get the feeling that they are stuck trying to navigate conflicting agendas from different CU departments. It sounded like somebody from housing got a bug up their ass about the proximity of tailgaters because somebody complained about noise or something and told the cops to deal with it, whereas the AD has sold those spots as tailgating the spots because of the construction (with no prior notice to people at the Farrand lot that their customary tailgating spot was a construction zone this year. Classic CU of nobody wanting to place nice with the AD, and viewing gamedays as something to be endured rather than an opportunity to welcome supporters. The whole situation was stupid because its not like folks were right up against the windows or anything.

You had a nice spread... a couple of us were tempted to go over and "make our selves at home" in the buffet line.

I went to an oklahoma game on saturday with my high school buddy and his family and it just showed me how screwed up Boulder is at the moment. They shut the whole street down where the bars are located and sell beer on the street. No open container limits on campus. Got ID'd once out of the 5 times I bought rounds of beers. Cops and Admin need to really lighten up in Boulder.

And by the way with the Id thing, I'm 22 years old and cant even grow a beard.

Yep. It's like that all over. I wish CU would get behind developing a world class tailgating culture. Some scenes they might check out include LSU, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Texas, SMU, OU, and anywhere else where there are flatbed trailers parked with live bands playing, a display of BBQ smokers, hospitality tents full of flat screens hooked to satellite dishes, and a general 7AM to Midnight place to have fun.

Basically expand the scene on Franklin Field all over campus.

The potential is off the charts. Honestly. The things they *could* do up there boggle the mind. We're already in one of the most gorgeous spots on the planet. If they actually encouraged tailgating and made it enjoyable - holy cow. It would be amazing. Instead, they'd rather bitch about us being too close to a dorm. Un-freaking-real. It's like they don't want people on campus at all. If I were in charge, you could tailgate anywhere outside that's not a road. Sidewalks, grass, quads, the President's lawn - anywhere. Let people find their spot and let them enjoy it. It's Six freaking days out of the whole effing year. It's not like we're causing any problems. The disconnect is unbelievable. They have no clue how to attract and retain customers. None.

Complain, complain, complain. You should just buy season tickets regardless of the effort of putting a quality product on the field, and donate to a hemorrhaging AD with no defined vision. And be happy for the opportunity to do it, too.

There is a developed skill set on campus and throughout Boulder that has refined the art of killing fun. The list is long.
420, #1 party school ranking, Halloween, the Hill, kinetic sculpture racing, burning couches...

Remember when U2 and The Rolling Stones actually played concert dates on campus and 3.2 beer was sold to 18 year olds at FAC?

If a hammer is the only tool in your tool kit, then everything looks like a nail.

Is this an electric skillet? Non-stick? Cast iron?

If we can identify it, maybe we can just spring for a replacement...

It stems from Boulder. The city considers every student a liability, fans just bring traffic. Those college towns mentioned above embrace their school, because most of them know they wouldn't be worth much without the students and the crowds. Boulder too often treats CU as a nuisance, not an asset.

Getting rid of the bolded is completely understandable

I can see why they are trying to get rid of the CU being known as the school that smokes out the campus on 4/20 perception. I don't agree with it, but I can see where they're coming from.

You people do realize that these tailgates easily get out of control and lead to orgies and drunken riots, right?

At some point, campus will just be for big donor and corporate tailgates. They'll move everyone else to a big South Campus lot and then have us take a shuttle bus to the stadium. This is our future.

I cooked some brats on my skill set. A ba dip ba dip ba dip etc. BTW, moving from netbuffs to allbuffs is like moving from North Korea to Texas. Free again. Free again.

More like moving from a deserted island to a theme park, in my experience. A drunken, crowded, noisy, annoying theme park. With too damn many kids.

Again, in my experience... :smile2:

I'll tell ya, buddy, I've head more fun, more laughs, and gotten more insight in the few months I've been reading and posting a bit over here than I ever did in that sewage-laden hellhole in 10 years. The knowledge level and wit level here is light years ahead, and I don't even understand some of it. :wow: I still post over there now and then, mainly to throw a Cherry Bomb into a stuck toilet, but if I want to read informed ideas and interesting opinions there's no place like Allbuffs. My kudos to all you long-timers that have maintained this very cool place.

**** you.

I guess the "mother" thing kinda gives the whole shebang away. Hmmm..shebang seems like a nasty word. In a way. I feel like writing a rap song.
