Can Tre'shawn Fletcher replace Booker?

Fletcher hasn't played that many minutes this year, but I found it interesting that Boyle left him in during cruch time when the Buffs went on that huge run against Harvard. I think he is our best defensive frosh right now, and Boyle values defense more than anything else to get minutes.

Do you see Boyle working him in the starting rotation similar to XJ last year? So, by the time of conference season, Fletcher will be getting starting minutes. Currently, Booker is the worst shooter on the team by far and still taking the most shots. Not a good recipe for success offensively.

I like his aggressiveness, but he is still taking too many off balance shots from deep and long 2 pointers early in the shot clock.

I'm not sure what we can do, but something needs to be done when our starting SG is shooting a 38% FG percentage and 24% from 3pt range. That's not good, and I'm sure if it will get better anytime soon unless Booker starts taking fewer shots.

Let's wait on the Booker talk.

He's been playing well for most of the season, and while his shooting % needs improvement, he's one of the only guys on the team who can drive and create offense when everyone else is standing around.

Booker's defense has been stellar. He still provides a few "WTF?" moments per game, but overall, I think he's gotten a lot better this year.

I haven't given up yet, but Booker is at his best driving to the rack, yet he doesn't do that enough IMO. If he can drive to to the basket 4-6 times/game and take 3-5 open threes, I would be happy with that.

I don't have the stats in front of me, but IIRC, that's almost exactly what he did in the Harvard game.

He had 3-4 wide open long 2 pt attempts as well. Other than those and 2 turnovers, ski was exactly what we needed in that game. I wish the whole team had his attitude.

Hell, my only issue with most of those long jumpers was that he was making them long 2 pointers, not that he took them. Someone has to take a shot eventually. Can't score if you don't shoot. I just wish Ski would take wide open 3s, not wide open long 2s.

Your issue is my issue as well. I don't understand why when he is wide open at the 3 he drives forward two steps and shoots wide open inside the arc. If you are going to take low percentage shots, at least make sure they are worth more points.

We need to stop looking at late game situational choices that make a freshman look good and trying to extrapolate that out.

Unless he gets injured, Ski will remain a starter until he graduates. He had his frustrating moments, but he also was one of the reasons the Buffs got the lead back and held on. He was having fits trying to defend either #1 or #4 for Harvard(can't remember name), which I thought was a big reason why he was getting subbed as much as he was in the 2nd.

I do agree that Fletcher looks good. He's my favorite out of the true frosh right now.

Fletch has been my favorite of the Freshman all along. I'm pretty sure Tad has the most confidence in him defensively of the True Freshman (meaning not Gordon). He just seems so smooth out there too. But he isn't going to replace Ski. Ski drives us all nuts at times, particularly with poor shot selection. But don't go crazy and think that this team is better without him. Even though I think Talton outplayed Ski against Harvard, this team still needs Ski.

This is kind of crazy.

What planet are you on?

What planet are you on?

Would you care to elaborate? I'm on a planet where Talton played a hell of a game, didn't get abused by Harvard's #1, whatever his name was, and made contributions all over the floor. Little X did have one brutal turnover, but he was very good on Sunday. Ski was awful for large stretches in that game.

Edit: Box score has Talton with 3 TOs. I specifically reference a brutal turnover that stands out where he turned it over against token pressure out front and Harvard got a layup on the other end. Other than that, I thought he was excellent.

I was the most critical of probably anybody on Booker last year - exhibit a, exhibit b, I also tried to find ways to justify his misses. But everything I complained about last year, (primarily his shot selection- increased two point jumpers and pull up jumpers on the break instead of taking it to the rack) he isn't doing this year.

Pachoops put together a great column on Ski last week, READ IT

i'll pull some quantifiable evidence later today, but I'm definitely not in the "Ski needs to come off the bench camp"

I'm a Ski fan and have been a defender of his even when the empirical evidence was against him.

Bottom line for me is that I believe that a team needs a guy with a big heart, big balls and no conscience.

But I would actually be ok with it if Tad wanted to start making the first substitution as a "wave" with Ski leading out XT, Fletch, King and Dustin. J-Hop seemed to respond well to starting, so it could be a win-win.

With that, I'd expect that the flow of the game would end up with Ski playing over 20 minutes and being on the court in crunch time. So him not being in the starting lineup doesn't mean he doesn't play starter's minutes.

If ski has his confidence back, that might work. But you can't have your team's leader coming off the bench, can you?

Interesting. Quite a different response to the exact same post on the rivals board.

Most of that board can't stand Booker. He's their whipping boy. Part of that is that you have a bunch of folks over there who don't know basketball. If Mayor drives and kicks out to a wide open Ski but Ski misses the 3 pointer, they think it was a bad shot. If Ski is given the ball at the end of the clock and he crosses over to free himself up for a jump shot, they think it's a bad shot and Ski's fault for not shooting within the flow of the offense. If Ski takes it to the rim and misses in traffic, it's him forcing things in a bad way no matter whether breaking down the defense results in an offensive rebound and put back by one of our bigs.

His game's not perfect, but Ski takes a lot of **** for things that are actually good basketball plays. And a lot of times he ends up taking the most shots on the team because he's the only guy out there forcing action while the rest of the guys are standing around.

The ski defenders are a passionate group. He's a shooting guard that cant shoot.

I love his driving ability and his lack of fear, and his D, but he has been slumping for a long time now. Maybe its time to realize that his freshman year was an anomaly, not the norm.

Please back this up with arguments and facts instead of conclusions.

 Yup

This year's 'Ski and last years' 'Ski are two different players, IMO. I think some folks got a bug up their ass last year over his erratic shot selection and haven't bothered to see what he's done this year.

Sure.
Freshman year he shot OK at 40% from 2 and 37% from 3. Not great, but probably good enough with everything else he brings to the table.
Sophmore year he shot 36% from 2 and 31% from 3. Not good at all.
This year he is at 38% from 2 and a garbage 24% from 3.

Thats not good enough for a team that fancies itself a top team. Not sure if one of the backups can get it done, but it might be time to find out. Also remember that Ski came off the bench his freshmen year, maybe that is his spot.

Bottom line today is CU is 6-1. I am convinced they would be 5-2 without him. I just don't see how they win that Harvard game without him.

No. Have already discussed and explained this exact thing in another thread. Not worth my time repeating it.

Ski is the emotional leader on this team, the heart. I saw him come off of the floor just pissed in the Harvard game and he lit into several of his teammates. I will trade off some of his "bad" decisions for what he does bring to the floor every night. There are a couple of others that need some of the fire he brings. When the others learn how to do this, watch out because the team will have really turned a huge corner and move up a level play.

This is WEAK sauce. I explained why I thought Talton had a better game on Sunday. I also was pretty clear that this team needs Ski. You care to bring anything to the table?
