Cutcliffe - To have Duke finish the year like they did, he deserves more than Coach of the year. He deserves a bigger program.
took the words right off my fingertips + **** mizzou and Auburn cheats like hell... so glad they won though.
I have a hard time ignoring the turnaround Malzahn did at the Barn, but if getting Duke to 9 wins and a spot in the CCG doesn't make you coach of the year, there's no point in having the award. That's pretty much doing the ****ing impossible.
Pinkel had an impressive turnaround, but he was also in charge when they went into the downturn. Can't give him as much credit as the other two, just because of that.

All 3 did a tremendous job. And as much as I love the job Cutcliffe is doing, the year-to-year improvement at Auburn is maybe unprecedented.
But going to Rivals, I look at the recruiting ranks and see what Cutcliffe and Malzahn had to work with:
2010 Class: Auburn #4; Duke #72
2011 Class: Auburn #7; Duke #77
2012 Class: Auburn #10; Duke #52
2013 Class: Auburn #8; Duke #68
Auburn should be a Top 10 team with that talent.

I hope some of whatever Cutcliffe has rubbed off on Mac when he was at Duke.

Flip side is who did Duke beat? Losses to GT and Pitt. Best wins were VaTech, the U, and the tarheels.
Sure. But the talent gap for Duke is pretty large, even against teams that we don't think much of from the ACC. What I like the most about Cutcliffe's job is that he worked a plan, recruited character and system fits, developed a culture, and coached up a bunch of guys no one wanted to a 10-2 season. As a CU fan, that earns a special place in my heart over a guy taking a team with Top 10 talent that severely underperformed in recent years only to break through this year.
Gotta give it to Malzahn. Not that Cutcliffe doesn't deserve recognition for what he's done at Duke, it's nothing short of miraculous. While Duke is a great story, they didn't take a huge step up from last season. They've been steadily rising under Cutcliffe, and while most people only started paying attention this year, they were well on this path last year. If Cutcliffe gets it, it's a body of work award for the last 6 years and not a best coach this year award.
For Malzahn to take the steaming pile of crap he was handed last year and get them to #3 is a much better one year coaching job than Cutcliffe or Pinkel.

Cutliffe, simply because he isn't in the See Everyone Cheat.
What??? Average recruiting classes in the Top 10 for the four previous years? How does that end up a "steming pile of crap"?
Any craptastique-ness at Auburn was caused by the cheating fraud, Chizik.
Now, if they forfeited their MNC and forced or allowed half their top talent to leave as a result of the cheating (See State Penn), then Malzahn could have bragging rights for his work. As it is, he walked into a talent goldmine; all he had to do was re-organize them.
Pinkel's a douche, who got douchier to compete in a weakened SEC this year.
Cutcliffe by a landslide.

I know who should get it. Which means it'll go to one of the others, since they're in the revered $ec.
I give the edge to Malzahn. No doubt that Cutcliffe has done a tremendous job at Duke of all places, a school that has 1 conference championship over the last 50 years. However the Coastal division is very mediocre and they were already a bowl team last year whereas Auburn was winless in conference. Plus winning the SEC West and beating Bama in particular carries alot of weight.
It should be no question that it should go to Cutcliffe.
The expectation at Auburn is that they will compete at this level all the time. They have talent, money, facilities, infrastructure and a culture of football excellence. The table for success was set for Malzahn and all he had to do was coach X & O's.
Cutcliffe on the other hand had an uphill battle the whole way with less talent, money, facilities and playing second fiddle to Bball, yet he found a way to transform the team and the culture into football excellence. The question of coach of the year should be a no brainer.

Cutliff has to be it. He didn't have the facilities, history, recruiting advatages that the other coaches had. Yes, more gradual, but unlike other coaches who could build and make progress, he has not used it as a springboard to move up to a bigger better school. I say that should be rewarded. And since MMs Dad rebuilt programs, and MM had a hand in rebuilding Duke it gives me confidence that CU is on the way.
Plus Auburn is benefiting from the tremendous classes they had, thanks to the MNC.

I voted for Cutcliffe because as a CU fan...it is what I envision MM hopefully doing one day and he would deserve Coach of the Year for turning this program around just like Cutcliffe did at Duke
