Quick Stat Breakdown from OSU Game

Turnovers: 14 each
Rebounds: CU 41-29 (CU 18-6 on offensive glass)
3pt Shooting: OSU 5/15 (15 pts, 33.3%), CU 6/22 (18 pts, 27.3%)
2pt Shooting: OSU 20/33 (40 pts, 60.6%), CU 20/42 (40 pts, 47.6%)
FT Shooting: OSU 23/35 (23 pts, 65.7%), CU 15/20 (15 pts, 75.0%)

In general, CU did what it normally does. Earned a bunch of extra shots by winning the glass. What didn't happen that normally does is getting more FTs than the opponent.

Buffs outscored OSU 58-55 from the field and were outscored by 8 from the line. 16 more FG attempts for CU, but 15 more FT attempts for OSU.

FT disparity killed us. But the other big thing, actually the bigger thing, is that the Buffs allowed OSU to shoot 52.1% from the field. That was, by far, the worst defense the Buffs have played all season over the course of a 40 minute game.

Individually, the other main issue was that OSU had 4 guys who were scoring and the Buffs only got good production from 3 guys.

OSU
Markel Brown - 23 points
Marcus Smart - 18 points
Phil Forte - 16 points
Le'Bryan Nash - 15 points

CU
Josh Scott - 20 points
Askia Booker - 19 points
Spencer Dinwiddie - 18 points
Next best was Fletch with 7.

XJ only had 3 on 1/5 shooting. Wes only had 2 on 1/4 shooting.

I think that's pretty much the story. Buffs played like ass on defense, didn't get to the line, and had most of their roster shut down.

FWIW, on the Spencer vs. Smart stat comparison the Mayor more than held his own:

Points: 18 each
Assists: 3 each
Steals: Mayor 2 / Smart 1
Rebounds: Mayor 2 / Smart 0
Turnovers: 2 each
Fouls: Mayor 4 / Smart 2

Defense really was the story last night. Not only did we give up a ton of easy buckets, but many of those were made worse by picking up soft fouls that led to a number of 3 point plays. This just looked like a young team who was focused on the holiday as much as the game.

The defense was bad but it was also a case of being outexperienced. LeBryan Nash was a major recruit and he played like a junior vs a freshman against Gordon. It was bad but I don't blame Gordon for that. Smart is an incredible two way player who knows how to Harden his way to the FT line. He looks NBA ready and that's hard to stop. Brown is a senior.

We rebounded well but around the 6 min mark, we could not grab a rebound and it killed us when trying to come back. Overall, I'm pleased we only lost by 5 to a way more experienced team who had a chance to win by 20.

Apparently we had John Higgins on the officiating crew last night. Notoriously awful. He's done 3 of our games this year: Baylor, Wyoming & Okie Lite.

is there a way we can make sure he never does another game? I ****ing hate him and I hate how he refs our games.

You beat me to it, I was going to rebutt MattRob's "soft fouls" line, but I think many of those fouls wouldn't have been called by a decent crew.

In no way, do I think we lost the game because of the refs however, we didn't deserve to win.

We really needed Spence to take over the game in the second half. If he wants to, he can drive and create contact and get to the foul line more often than not. To me, he was too passive and trying to create opportunities for other players. If at some point in the second half he decides that he's taking over the game, we have a much better chance of winning.

Oh, and Ski needed to stay on his man since he can only shoot three pointers. Why is that so hard to rememeber, Ski?

Other than that, we played pretty badly and still only lost by 5. To me, this was a wasted opportunity but one we will hopefully grow from come January.

To be fair ski either goes off his man and that guy is open for a shot or he stays on his man and the other team gets a layup. The problem is that someone is getting beat and ski has to help.

Is he the one with the blond hair/frosted tips?

Maybe, maybe not, but you can't continue to take those lazy swipes at the ball throughout the game. Either foul them hard and send them to the line or let them go.

As much as we all wanted the win, and as close as we were to pulling it off, I think it was a good loss for our freshman. The had lost to Baylor, then won 10 in a row including that big win over KU. Gets them a little more focused on what coach is talking about in practice. I think it will get the freshman a little more dialed in before conference play begins.

I don't ever want to lose but I think this could be a great learning experience. I'm very happy with the OOC schedule we've played -- sure we had cupcake, but glad we had the neutral site games against Baylor and Okie Lite, the home game against KU, and CSU's annual Super Bowl.

Las Vegas is a neutral site wit a bonus. Maybe the freshmen wont be starstruck during the p12 tourney.

Bingo. Tad doesn't get enough love for that decision. Plus I'm glad we had a neutral game in Dallas. Even though it's a different arena, at least the team will feel somewhat comfortable when we go there for the Final Four.

Obviously this game we just is more of a mock-up of the Pac-12 Tourney. But the Dallas game was great because that's exactly what a first round (technically second) is going to be like with a sterile environment in an NBA arena.

Our young guys have so much potential and are improving, but I think they are running into some rhythm issues due to a 9-10 man rotation. As conference play starts I'd be curious to see how some more concentrated minutes would benefit guys like Fletch and DT. I love George King but giving him just 6 minutes a game may not be the best thing for the team right now (despite him attacking the boards).

Our FT numbers among the Freshman (Wes included) could also use some improvement, putting it lightly: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/stats/_/id/38/colorado-buffaloes

Our frosh, for the first time in a while, gave us absolutely nothing in the OSU game. We can't win when they do that.

I though Fletcher asserted himself well....the problem Saturday was we got next to nothing from XJ and Wes...we can't win against big time opponents if those 2 no show games

All the freshman are really struggling right now. Hopefully they can all come out of their slump during conference play.

I'm with SECO. I thought Fletch looked pretty good. Had some definite flashes.

7 points on 8 shots is rough, especially those two bad misses at the end of the game. He definitely played best out of all the freshman.

pretty sure those 7 were our only bench points. Fletch looked better in comparison, but like other have said, he wasn't efficient. Sad to see Jhop regress...

JHop was horrendous on help rotations (2 really bad fouls reaching late and being flatfooted) and just seemed lost on offense...I was very disappointed in that as well. DT seemed a little overwhelmed. Fletcher missed shots but didn't seem overwhelmed like the other two. King only got a minute so hard to really say anything about that other than him and Mills badly playing that pick and roll on Markel Brown at the end of the 1st half that led to a 3-point play on JHop's foul.

pretty much

Talton: 2 points
Fletch: 7 points
Hopkins: 2 points

King is so funny:

Kansas played two minutes took 2 shots
OSU played one minute took 1 shot
