Really wild and innovative stuff they've done around the world for different soccer stadiums, too.

With arenas (if we ever re-do the Keg), they did a bunch of cool projects including Louisville's new digs.

any ideas on when we will see some architectural renditions?

Hey, man. I looked at it the other way... Populous even made **** Bailer look good. :wink2:

Ever been to Waco? Holy Jesus, just not possible, even with the awesome megalith they're building for those assholes.

Drive through there a couple of weeks ago. Brand new, almost futuristic looking building being erected on the west side of the interstate (med building, maybe) - - medieval, amusement park looking buildings on the east side.

I thot, yep, there's bailer.

All of the examples have a contemporary feel. I hope they preserve the traditional aesthetics of Folsom.

Minnesota was pretty classic. They also did some of the baseball parks that had that throwback look, such as Camden Yard and Yankee Stadium. Looks like they go either direction, because they did the Florida Marlins park and that's the complete opposite end of that spectrum.

I mostly posted the modern stuff because that was what I found most interesting.

It's crazy how close that thing is to I-35. Was a bit surprised when we drove through there at Thanksgiving.

Don't they have to? Thought all buildings in campus need to look the same.

the university has an established standard for the facade flagstone pattern. the new facility will match that on the outside i'm sure.

it's the interior of the facilities that will make the recruits say...
holy ****. this is where i belong for the next five years
...

populous is a good choice, they can make that happen if they focus on our project. and that is why they were selected...so they better not **** it up.

Glad to hear they'll keep the flagstone exterior. I do like the interior shots of the Minnesota project.

Apparently not

I actually had to do some research on that during my time as an undergrad cause I couldn't figure out how this ugly mess ended up in the middle of my campus.

1921 CU architecture committee decided on a "tuscan vernacular" design. In 1964 a rule was enacted that all designs would have to be approved by architecture review board and University president to keep consistent a aesthetically pleasing campus. They then enacted a specific set of rules which govern things like sandstone size, texture, roofing regulations, pedestrian access etc etc.... I nauseating long list of things. Yet after reading it I started looking at the building and technically it does meet all the rules. The flagstone siding is present (and rule doesn't state whole thing need be sandstone). It is right size, has right roofing, pathways, landscaping, access etc. So really fit all the rules and somehow the president at the time it was built didn't have the stone to stand up and say "I know technically this meets our standards, but hell no"

I know they were discussing building a new engineering center back in early 2000's but never heard anything more about it.... Would love to see this eye sore come down and get replaced with something that actually fits in with the rest of campus

If I hit the lottery I'm blowing up the engineering center. They also built Duane and Muenzinger similarly and those are huge eyesores too
