Senior Day/Blackout

With GameDay coming, I totally forgot that it was Senior Day. I wonder if they'll do the speeches before the game? I'd imagine afterwards it might be a little chaotic if we win, if the fans rush the court that is. And if we lose like we did last year, it's anticlimatic. Bottomline, I hope they learned from last year and do it pre-game.

Did they just announce today that the game on Saturday was a blackout? Not the most creative idea, but I can go for it and I like the fact they are trying to get some school spirit. That said, they knew GameDay was going to be here for a month and it was very likely before that, why the long wait to announce it?

Missing Mike Bohn yet?

I have a feeling that our new AD is spending more time trying to schmooz big contributors (NTTAWWT mind you) than worrying about petty little things like on-campus promotions for possibly the biggest weekend in the history of CU basketball.

5 days isn't enough notice? Do people not have the interwebz?
No it's not that it isn't enough time, I just don't get why they had to wait this late. They could've announced it 48 hours before and word could've spread, doesn't mean they should've.

Waiting for complaints about 7pm start time. Surely it's too early or too late.

No ... it's just right!

Oh ... and bite me.

Iowa crowd.jpeg why can't we do something creative like this. Blackouts get old for me and I think a "Gold" out or even a white out looks much better on TV.

Maryland did this color coordinated thing against FSU, where you wore a color by what section you were in. Not sure how successful it was.

I agree that blackouts are old and it works better in football with a night game. But nonetheless, I'll take this over nothing.

If people actually do it, it is really cool. I used the Iowa example because they have similar colors. The problem is the shirts have to be provided and people have to wear them. The white out was actually pretty cool for UCLA, but I saw a lot of people (older people) that just didn't wear the shirt which ruined the whole point of it.

Blackouts/whiteouts and in CU's cases, goldouts should be relatively easy. I think everyone has those colors. If there was a purple out, we might be in toruble.

Slider was asking is 5 days enough time, in theory it should be. But if they announced this at the last home game, it would be easier to communicate.

At this point, I'm just happy they're doing something. Something > nothing. What I'm curious about is the attendance they'll get for Sat AM. We were making a big deal about how much better of a choice we were than Stanford when it was announced over the summer. If only a few hundred students show up, that's gonna look bad. Has CU said they'd serve breakfast or any other incentive to get students to go? And I don't want to hear how early in the AM it is or anything, we knew all of that going in. Final point, not too concerned about the 4 PM MST GameDay edition, that's mostly a highlights show and very little student studio based show. Nonetheless, it be nice to get a decent amount of fans there.

Sorry. I'm sure you want someone else to respond, but I don't want to study for my marketing midterm so here I am on allbuffs. I was just pointing out that it would be most successful for the shirts to be provided for each section because lots of people honestly wouldn't know about it given our marketing strategy or lack there of. Speaking of lack of marketing, we got an email like a week ago just saying the times and when the doors open. That is all. No incentive to go (I don't need one but still), but just said this is the times that it is happening. It also said that the afternoon/night gameday is at six which I think is incorrect. I had heard that it was at 4 because of the Duke Syracuse game. So now we have misinformation, no follow up email or anything. We didn't even get an email saying it was a blackout yet. There is so much that they can do to involve the students. Have the c4c open at 5:30 and provide meals there for free. Although this is a a ticket policy issue, how bout the first 100 students that get to gameday get a wristband which guarantees them a spot in the first five or so rows if they show up a half hour before. Stuff like that. I love the buffs, so I will be there, but for the kids that don't care all that much about it won't be getting up at 6 am to get on TV. And those kids are about 95% of the students who go to CU...

You get off allbuffs and the interwebs in general and get back to hitting those damn books, young man! There will be plenty of time in the coming years for you to waste time here.

I should know ... I'm an old ****. And as I'm typing this I'm listening to an incredible Grateful Dead medley and perusing the web (including this wonderful site). However, it took years of hard work for me to be able to spend time doing these things ... you have quite a few years ahead of you before you can justify wasting your time here. So buck up, buckle down, and get to ****ing work!!!

Hey everyone needs a study break. And we were talking about marketing, so I was using it to apply what I was studying

The AD came out with some incentives today for the students who attend the festivities in the morning, good work by them. Now just gotta make sure they communicate it to the students well.

okay ... fair enough.

good luck on your mid-terms.
Thanks! Despite my busy schedule I will be at the ASU game! And RK. Those are fantastic, except they might want to get started on getting that news out to us...

Edit: you already said they need to make sure to communicate it to the students well.

I realize on here, fans reading this are likely to go anyways. And yeah they moved the Duke/Cuse game back an hour and Gameday is earlier as a result.

Well that's good!

FWIW, the guys over at pointguardu are even more doom and gloom than we have been around here in recent weeks. And they have two losses. They don't think the cats will win here, some even thinking they get swept on this road trip.

In the age of modern communication 5 days is plenty. There is sometimes the issue of announcing to early and by the time the event comes it is forgotten about.

Timing is critical for maximum response and impact. (See, now I am using my marketing degree.)

Valid point about it being too early but why not announce it a month in advance and THEN announce it again as a reminder 5 days before? Really what I'm getting at is I would've liked to see it advertised a few home games, so the people who don't following every minor thing on CU basketball like we do, would have advance planning.

dammit. I was worried about this -- I would like to see CU represent well at Gameday. It's gotta be the students too, we could organize a movement on AB to all show up but ESPN isn't going to want to show a bunch of 35 year-olds acting stupid. And it would probably look bad for the university if they did.

OK, much better. I should've read the whole thread before posting -- my bad.

@RyanKoenigsberg As of this morning, around 150 student tickets STILL remain for the Arizona game on Saturday.
Yeah I'd say the GameDay attendance is going to be interesting since you could still get a ticket to one of the biggest games in CEC history as of this AM.

Let's go, students!

We need an overflow, rowdy section on Saturday that gets there early to rock Gameday!

And all of us non-students need to step up our games for this one, too.

Make sure everyone knows to wear black.

If you don't, be advised that Rugged will be standing outside the door dousing non-conformists with buckets of "meconium stools". (You parents know what I'm talking about.)

Still available? Can you supply a pointer on how a student can get the tix? My non-sports-interested Buff-daughter is too lazy to find them herself, but I'll persuade her and the boy-toy to get a pair.
