It's been fun to watch him rise to the occasion. Photo Credit: CUindependent

He's been a joy to watch. That's why I think he has a bright future ahead of him playing basketball somewhere. He's the kind of guy that puts butts in seats.

I just like that he has made all of his doubters shut the **** up (I was one of them).

It's been a joy to watch his progression over these past 3 years.

At this point, I don't put it past him to get himself a shot at the NBA as a point guard. It's going to be fun to see where the rest of this season and his senior year take him.

sometimes a hair pulling joy, but yes.

Liked his play against asu last night where he drove the lane and did a quick layup before the 7'2" center could block it.

I think Askia played like this at the beginning of last year (his SOPH year) when he was asked to step up. He was unreal in the tournament in S. Carolina.

He then hit a slump and that had an effect and he had trouble shaking it. Not until Spencer went down did Askia seem to let it go, because he's been very, very good since. I think it proved to be the jolt that he needed to get his confidence back. The kid is playing like a stud.

His drives to the hoop and some of his passes were just filthy last night. I love to see Ski become the undisputed overall leader of this team. He is doing everything they are needing right now.

Hat's off. He is becoming a beast. He had at least 6 rebounds and scored 16 second half points. His toughness is rubbing off on others also.

He is the one who makes you shake your head then swear you'll never doubt him a minute later. I don't always talk to my TV during Buffs basketball, but when I do, it's to Ski.

This

He was very cold in the first half, but after about 4 minutes into the second half he took over the game. Those two passes to the paint (one to Scott, and I can't remember who got the other one, maybe Big X) were crisp and outstanding. Both led to easy dunks behind Bachynski.

You won't hear me complaining about Ski. The guy has taken over as leader of this team. When the team needs a spark, he gives them a spark. When they need to get things under control and play smart, he gets them to slow down and play smart. He's making guys like Jelly and XJ better. He had a pass to Gordon last night that was freaky. He plays with an intensity that is uncommon at the college level, IMO. He's really, really fun to watch.

I don't think we'll hear anyone complaining about Ski much these days. Those of us who were criticizing his play last year when he was in his "slump" (which let's face it, lasted virtually the entire conference season ) were justified IMHO in citing his poor shot selection, questionable ball-handling leading to several TOs, and his overall apparent lack of concentration resulting in his taking many more shots than anyone else (including Spence) and yet scoring fewer points.

Since Spence went down, his intensity (which was never in question) has picked up even more, and he's making much better decisions with the ball. And he has improved his shot selection, which has manifested itself in his higher and higher scoring averages. He still does some things that make you go "Damn, Ski?" .... but they are much fewer and further between than last year.

The criticism of Ski last year and into this year was over the top. People were quitting on him and wanting him pushed to the side. There were legitimate criticisms (wasn't shooting well, wasn't making great decisions, was in his own head - body language was showing his obvious frustration), but it was like people forgot his MVP performance in Charleston and the other great play in the non-conference season and some of the clutch performances of his freshman year, then didn't give enough credit for igniting the run that almost brought the Buffs back in the NCAA tourney against Illinois when everyone else was having trouble getting anything going (outside of Dre's defense).

I'm glad that Ski has almost everyone on board now. But I wish he had gotten more support and less negativity while he was struggling.

Fair enough ... but for a little perspective, take a look at one of the ASU boards after the game.

I went there just to see how their fans were reacting to the beating ... but was very interested to see that Jahii Carson is getting dumped on by ASU fans much worse than Ski ever has been by anyone here. There are no fewer than three whole threads calling him out specifically, not to mention criticisms in the game thread. And he was considered at the outset of the season to be one of the top two or three guards in the conference, if not the best.

Goose and i talked about that team and him in specific last night. They are so dysfunctional it seems like none on that team likes each other, when the one kid got hot from three Sendek had to call a TO just to get him the ball because Jahii was going to jack it up otherwise. Late Jahii wasn't fouling, and then there was the poorly set 30 footer with no one in front of him.

And I think we can agree that we want and expect CU fans to be better basketball fans that ASU has.

Read thru that ASU game post - wow, they are not real high on Carson.

Also realize just how sophisticated (relatively speaking) ABers are compared to that chatter.

It's crazy to me that they don't like Carson. I mean, I don't, but I'm a fan of another team. Carson saved the ASU program from heading to current Wazzu levels. Maybe they don't like him because he saved Sendek's job?

ASU should be careful with Sendek. If they aren't, they can take the path the Hokies took with Greenberg. Nothing about ASU screams basketball power. Sendek delivers wins and postseason, even if it isn't pretty. NCSU fans incessantly bitched about him forever for "only" getting them to the Big Dance umpteen times. Well, he got sick of them and bounced and NCSU went into the sewer for 7 years and still has yet to recover his consistency.

Something that NC State and Wake Forest fans lose sight of sometimes is that in many years it's possible to be the 4th best team in the state and still be really ****ing good.

The mistake VT took in firing Greenberg was not in the dismissal itself, but in the timing of it and the selection of his replacement. I don't know ASU, but doubt any Pac-12 AD could f**k it up as bad as Weaver (VT's AD) did. Tech fired Greenberg in late April -- after all the 'mainstream' coaching changes and after the start of the late signing period! Under Greenberg, VT was leading the ACC in player transfers and assistant coach attrition. Also, Seth was widely rumored to be a divisive force in the athletic department (i.e. he wasn't paying enough homage at the Beamer alter). Didn't like the hire of JJ -- dude left VT for the same position with the same salary at Clemson, Weaver asks "why?", JJ says "Greenberg's an ass, he's running off players", Weaver fires Greenberg and hires JJ.

I liked Seth, and wasn't happy about his termination. I also wasn't happy about the number player transfers and understand that as a fan, I don't know everything going on. I do know that firing him so late after the end of the season was a huge mistake. Hiring the guy who got him fired probably compounded it. Following the coaching change, came the (not unexpected) mass exodus of players who wanted to get the hell out of a football school (including our first ever 5*) -- dooming VT hoops for at least 2 years, probably much more.
