CB Jeffrey hall arrested

Damn...I got scared when I saw Awuzie's name. Thank god he wasn't involved.

Based on the description of the police report, it seems unlikely that Hall will get out of this without some kind of criminal conviction for the type of offense that football coaches have little patience for. Second Degree Assault on a police officer (basically causing bodily injury to a person you know to be a police officer in the performance of their duties) is a class-4 felony punishable by a minimum prison term of 5 years, and up to 16 years. The DA might also charge with with second degree assault (with the same penalties) on Ms. Lettow, on the theory that his hands were deadly weapons--DAs in Colorado are increasingly charging second degree assault on strangulation cases.

Mac's first "test" in how he will deal with these kinds of issues. Is it possible that alcohol was involved?

Not sure, bot I don't think that Mac wants to have to deal with too much of this stuff. How many guys on a 4-8 team are indispensible?

Just no way around these things when you're dealing with a hundred 18 to 22 year old males.

They'd be done no matter who they were, if it went down as I've read so far. Everybody gets their fair shake but that's up to the legal system. He plays again, it probably won't be at CU.

Good on Awuzie for trying to stop it and complying (eventually). Hall's a stiff anyway. One more scholarship.

Wow... this might be one of the top 5 worst posts I've read on Allbuffs. That's saying something, for a place filled to the brim with assholes.

This is going to hurt from a standpoint of losing depth, Hall was starting to earn some significant playing time, but more importantly from a PR standpoint.

The Lewis thing last year (along with Webb) was easier to pass off because M2 had only been here a short time and they were "Embree" guys, one of whom had already separated himself from the program. Hall is very clearly a part of M2's team.

It is also a much more serious looking situation because it involves violence against a female and against a police officer, two issues which are much more sensitive issues for the general public than a fight with another college male, even if he is in uniform.

Even if the charges eventually end up getting dropped to much lower level violations it's hard to see how M2 can afford to keep Hall around on the team. The media has already put out the image of a violent kid. Anything less than a hard line would cost M2 much more of the good will he has built up in the community than he can afford to spend.

PR? Come on, guys. This kind of thing happens every year in every program.

Hall will get punished as he deserves. Life will move on.

Stuff like this does happen every year all over the country. Problem is that it gets looked at differently in a place like Boulder than it does in Lincoln or Tuscaloosa.

How M2 handles this particular incident may have a lot to do with how these things are reported in the future. We have already seen that certain members of the local media are happy to take advantage any opportunity to make CU look bad. Giving an impression of going soft on this incident could result in the program getting labeled as "soft" on these incidents.

Why should we care what the dip****s in Boulder think? If their opinion mattered we wouldn't have any non-Olympic teams.

You've come so far, and yet you have so much to learn

Just to be clear on where I am coming from:

I am not minimizing the incident. Violence against women is a hot button issue for me and I'm incredibly pissed off. As a CU fan, it adds to it that this happened to a CU female athlete.

What I am minimizing is how big of a story that "a CU football player did it" really is. Overwhelming majority in the CU program and other college football programs are good kids that do a lot to enrich their communities and get involved much more with charities and other good things than they get involved in this kind of stuff. This is not a problem with CU football. It's a problem with an individual who is also a football player.

I feel bad for all involved when this stuff haapens. Reading the reports it seems like Hall had a lot of anger when this all came down, he will need to figure out where that is coming from. MacINtyre may not have to get involved. He has violated the code of conduct and may get booted from the University by the review committee.

We have all made errors in our youth and sometimes we have to pay a price. I hope Hall can get past this without getting booted from CU, get his degree and maybe even play football again.
