Here's an under-the-radar guy CU's after. He'll be visiting Boulder this weekend and said the Buffs are recruiting him as receiver. 1,306 all-purpose yards and 12 total touchdowns as a junior. All-district WR and was Americas' MVP. Q is actually his name, not short for anything.

At 6'3", 185, he can bulk up to around 210 and play linebacker if he doesn't have the speed for WR or Safety. NotKyle seems to think we're looking at him for WR, but possibly a change of position would be appropriate, depending on how fast he truly is. I'll take a linebacker at 6'3, 210 with 4.7 speed.

Pops Drennan? CU going to offer?

I hope so, from what I'm getting after he comes to the camp in June they will. They are at the top of his list. UTEP and NMSU have offered, Airforce has been talking to his coach, and there are other schools talking but CU is at the top. I wanted him to stay at the QB position, but because one of the WR went down in the middle of his soph. year they moved him up. This year he is going to be playing QB, so not sure whats going to happen.

Nike Sparq camp

Not bad, real slow on his 40, almost pulled some thing, but I would say he is a true mid 4.5s to 4.6. He got invited to the next camp and they are going to decide if he will get the invite to the OPENING...

Well, thanks for stopping by Pops. JR looks pretty good and we need more tall athletic guys.
We got a lot of proud fans around here and we are looking forward to a big turnaround over the next few years.

Why thank you holic.

Someone posted earlier that it didn't look like he had a lot of talent around him. That looks like the case. American HS struggled in conference and finished 3-4.

El Paso is not really known for its talent but in some cases I have to look at the coaches. The players have to execute but the play selection has to be a good one..

Welcome, Mr. D. I have a buddy who played for Americas class of 2000 but really no idea of who the teams with a winning culture in the area are. I've heard of Andress and Coronado doing well in the past but unsure of what the landscape looks like today.

Thanks aik, I think its really the football culture around here. Football is not big because the parents around here don't see it as a real future. El Paso is a military town really, the only reason me and my family is here is because I retired this past November and staid here because Q' is doing so well. there are so many kids here that are not from here, and has so much talent but just doesn't get seen because of where they are. I try to tell parents to take their kids to camps but they just don't see the point....

Makes sense. It is very hard to track kids when they don't go up through one program but rather have changed schools. Kind of fall off the recruiting services' radar. With the importance the CU staff has publicly placed on their camps I hope Q can make it up this summer and show them what he's got.

Oh yeah, Coach Jeffcoat told him he better be there,,lol its only an 8hr drive so he will be there. we have a lot of camps to go to, and all the coaches are making sure that Q' is getting the word that they want him to come. His high school coach said he feels like a secretary,,,lol I personally want him to go to CU, but I want him to go where he wants to, so.

Yeah make sure you make your way up for the camp. Great way to get exposure with the coaches and once here in person I think you will both realize that Boulder is a pretty special and unique place. Not only that, but the education is hard to beat. But at the end of the day it's whatever is best for Q' so make sure to enjoy the process and look at all the options.

I played against Riverside and El Paso High, both in the playoffs. They were both 9-1 coming in and we totally killed them. Bad enough jv players finished it off. There is some talent there, it's spread out. They have a ton of schools.

that's the biggest thing that's wrong in El Paso is all the schools, there is a lot of talent that's not from El Paso but are here because of Fort Bliss, so you have kids from all over the country here. the culture of the people here is another issue, football is just not that big, most of the parents here don't see it as a way for their kids to get to the next level. most of them just want their "babies" to stay close to home, and that really hurts the kids chances of seeing anything other than El Paso. Q' has been all over the world and have seen so much so he loves the idea of going away to school. He loved the visit to CU during Jr. Day, the area is beautiful the coaching staff seems to be going in the right direction, that's what really impressed him about CU.

Yeah it was rough for them, the "O" would score 35-45 pts a game and their "D" couldn't stop anyone, and the coach doesn't believe in having players go both ways. I understand to a point but when you put up them many pts, you have the have the best guys on the turf on the "D"....

He is really looking forward to his day at CU's camp on the 1st of June, hope they will offer because he is going to accept if they do. Working on that speed and putting on some weight, so he will be ready...

Not sure, we have been hearing that he has been offered, but not as of yet. The coaches told him that there were going to after they seen him at camp. Coach Jeffcoat watched him play here in El Paso while he was here looking at another player that they offered, (Lopez) and fell in love with his play and have been in touch from that point. He has a few good offers and schools still talking to him, but he loves CU so I'm sure that if they do offer in June he is going to take the offer.
