Worst 10 coaches of the BCS Era

Embree was FAR worse.

For all his faults, Hawkins was within striking distance of three bowl games in five years.

This was a list of the ten worst coaches.

Did Embree even do enough to qualify to be called a coach?

Any list that considers Water Bottle as a better coach than Dan Hawkins loses all credibility with me.

As bad as JE was (and he was awful) he inherited a lot of his problems from the man called Hawk, so I've got no incredulity about the list.

I don't think the people who researched this even know who Jon Embree is, and I can't blame them and am actually a little envious.

I am with other ABers here. Embers deserves a top 5 ranking. Not sure about hawk

Honestly think Embree should be #1...I can't think of anyone who was worse.

The funny thing is many were lobbying for EB to be HC. Can you imagine? Pretty sure it. Would have been even worse and it is hard to believe that is even possible.

Ron Prince at Kjuco was pretty bad. I still laugh at how he made his assistant coaches run stadium stairs under his one heartbeat theme.

Embree should never have been hired in the first place, so factoring that in, gotta go with Squawkins.

But he was hired and he was the head coach of a BCS program so he absolutely should be factored in

Guilty as charged, with one distinction, when I was in favor of EB, it was only in the context of choosing between EB and Embo. If limited to those choices, I wanted EB. Probably would have been worse, although that is hard to imagine.....

I really thought bringing in Bill McCartney for a redux was the way to go. But then again, that probably would not have worked either.

Once the writing was on the wall that the hire had to be from the Buff family (and Les Miles wouldn't be coming back to Boulder), my support was for Embree.

I still think he was the best choice among available options.

I wish that I would have been a lot more vocal about how dumb it is to limit yourself to "in the family" hires, or even to make that a factor in the hiring process. I believed that he would restore some important things that had been lost and would at least stock the roster with better talent based on his previous recruiting success on the college level. Then, even if he didn't win, the program would be in better shape for the next guy. Unfortunately, it went as badly as it possibly could from every standpoint.

On a positive note, I think that like an addict, CU needed to hit rock bottom in order to get truly motivated about recovery. Barnett and even Hawkins allowed us to be a functional alcoholic of a program for a lot of years before the bottom started to fall out.

I wonder how tough it is to make the "Top Ten Worst" list for both BCS era schools and all time Canadian Football League?

The "in the family" hire was an attempt to soothe the fan base when the hire was made based on cost instead of getting the best available talent.

I'm sure you're right. Firing Hawkins was delayed at least a year too long over budgetary reasons and then with that buyout on top of the new coaching salaries of a new staff, Bohn wasn't told to open the checkbook to get the best possible coach for the program.

Dumb list....Chizik won a National Championship (even if you give Cam and Malzhan most of the credit), John L. Smith was good at Michigan State and if Embree isn't Top 10 it is pointless.
