This just in

Pacific Athletic Conference makes sense to me.

UBL? I can't tell anymore.

I just mention it because people say "the PAC" like it's "the" SEC or "the" ACC. Drives me nuts.

THE PAC. Conference of Champions. Best conference top to bottom. Deepest conference in America. Most national championships of any conference. sec/acc, dude what you smokin

Is it the all caps that bothers you, or the "the" before? Neither makes any sense, but I want to make sure we understand from where you're coming.

He is mad because people say "The S. E. C." and "The A. C. C." and we are "The PAC" not "The P. A. C."

It's an abbreviation and not a acronym, so I assume it's not the "the" but the capitalization that bugs him.

Of course, he's got Hawk for an avatar so we can probably just give him a box of juice and send him on his way.

Pac is an abbreviation of Pacific. So, it is not like SCUBA, POGs, LASER or NATO.

But if you look at a map ocean names are usually in all caps. PACIFIC OCEAN, ATLANTIC OCEAN and so on, seas and bays just getting a leading capital - so maybe a shortened PACIFIC12 to PAC12 is correct?

BTW:
or POGs (the last one stands for Passion Orange Guava, FYI)
I had never heard of POG/POGs before last weekend and now it is everywhere - a couple of hurricanes come near Hawaii and people start drinking like fish or what?

You may want to scroll through this link and see how it is defined repeatedly from about #20 on. In other words, that does not mean what you think it means. Be careful using the term in mixed company.

Yes - Pacific 12. Like Big 12 (which is different than The B1G). You wouldn't say The BIG.
