Dustin Thomas looks like he's been busy down in Texas.

Please let me enjoy the hype for the football program for a little while.

Dude used a trampoline, right?

And just saw your other post in the schedule thread. Nice find on Jhop.

You are more than welcome to stay in the football forum. I've decided, despite much pessimism, to buy into the hype for basketball.

I can't double hype. Can't be done. Unpossible.

Fear not, though. I expect the hype for the football program to last about three weeks. If all goes well, it may actually last into October. It won't go much further.

I'm so excited for this season. We've got so many potential upsides for a team that's pretty damn good even if none of them materialize.

I am worried about our team this year without Spencer we averaged less that 1 point per possession - that scares me.

This. I'm very glad our non-conference schedule doesn't have the murderers row that last year did. The team needs confidence. The Utah route is definitely the way to go this year.

Eh, Utah's route cost them a shot at a NCAA tournament spot. I'm okay with the schedule, but it will likely put CU on the bubble if they go 9-9 in the Conference.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to see CU going undefeated in OOC. If we do that and get over .500 we will be fine.

Goose didn't mean that so literally. The schedule is filled with teams that will be Top 200 RPI, with about half in the Top 100. Utah played only 1 or 2 games of that caliber last season in the OOC.

As long as we win, the Buffs should have an OOC RPI in the Top 30. SOS won't be Top 5 like last year, but it should be Top 40.

Yup. Rumblin had a great write up on our schedule that everyone should read. http://rumblinbuff.blogspot.com/2014/08/quick-post-on-2014-15-mens-basketball.html

are we really doing a Utah schedule this year? I kinda thought it was between our super RPI schedule last year and what Utah did.

Ya the schedule looks like crap on the surface, but once you start digging into it, it actually isn't that bad. Just not as high profile as last year. Which is to be expected, we are in a weird middle ground on the way to being a nationally respected brand.

You just gotta be ambidextrous. Takes some practice. I can quad-hype: CU football, CU basketball, Denver Broncos, and Denver Roller Dolls all at once.

I was bothering goose about this today, but some of the concerns I had about this team have been answered in a positive way initially, which is why I'm on the hype bandwagon:

1. Scott - Definitely another huge leap in his strength. Jamtastic looking fella. We should see him at near his full potential this year. So another jump, even if it's likely not as big a jump as there was between his frosh and soph years.

2. Dustin - Disappeared for the summer in Texas. Per today's video, he's definitely been working hard. Questions remain as to whether he's been working smart and can fix whatever prevented him from shooting well last year. So, improvement, but the question is whether it will be a big jump.

3. JHop - We know the #gameshooter has been working hard since the day he got here. Again, improvement. Only question is how big of a jump he will make.

4. Dom - Could he physically play as a frosh? All rumors/signs point to yes. That's a huge boost to our offensive efficiency right there.

5. Gordon - Been working on campus all summer with Josh. Expect a big jump from a guy whose biggest issue has been the mental side of things.

6. XJ - went to China with the allstars. great experience. Coming into the season with the weight of expectation. I'm guessing not a big change to his ceiling, but a lot more consistently good performances from him.

7. Ski - Not sure how he can get much better, but he sure has hell is going to try. And he's a senior. Time flies. Huge season for him should be the expectation. I just hope he's also much more efficient.

Ok, I think you all get the point. No diss to the guys not mentioned. The point is: yea, we will be better than what we were post Spencer. I love that the only question left to answer is HOW MUCH better are we going to be?

#gobuffs.

XT has also been putting in about as much work as humanly possible.

So now all we need is snow to pick Stalzer as his surprise player and we are set.

XT has also been putting in about as much work as humanly possible.
That's true. He was never really one of my concerns, I guess. I like XT, and he was really solid for us as the year went on. If he can raise his level, fantastic. I was worried about things like DT going to Texas and chilling all summer, etc.

XT has also been putting in about as much work as humanly possible.

That's the really sick thing about what Snow posted. He left out guys like XT and Fletch who have reportedly taken their games to a new level this offseason.

This team's first priority is to find consistency and efficiency.

I'm confident that will happen. At the very least, we won't have a repeat of last year with sub-par defense.

The BIG QUESTION is whether the team will develop a star from the back court that can put this team on his back. Do we have the heir apparent to Alec, Carlon & Spencer?

Channeling my inner Duff. What do we think other teams are doing during the summer? Are we working harder than them somehow.

Maybe. More importantly, we're returning 11 guys and only 1 of them was an upperclassman last year. There's a natural progression of players in every program and we've simply got a ton of players who weren't fully developed last year and are coming back. A normal incremental improvement from returning underclass talent is expected and we have a volume of guys in that category that is extremely unusual for a major program.

just a subset of my question :smile2:

And yea, should have mentioned fletch... he was just starting to scratch what he could do pre-injury. A huge leap from him would be amazeballs.

Yup - it's so unusual we have not been in this position since Tad got here. It's usually just been hoping one or two guys progress. We've got a chance for HUGE jumps from 6 or 7 guys. Will all of them progress in a big way? Almost certainly not. But odds are some of them will, and the rest should get better. That's not a bad place to be.

I don't know if you can say for a fact they are putting in more work than anybody else, but the majority of the team is training in a pretty unique environment. The altitude training may have an overestimated in terms of homecourt advantage, but it does play a huge factor in the conditioning of the team and how they perform at the lower altitude schools.

Football will crash and burn here shortly. But Tad ... my friends, Tad is starting a Tom Izzo like run at little ole CU.

The real season is coming. #RollTad
