Two options, only one worth rooting for IMO...

Lots of back and forth on this board following the loss. The more I think about it, there are only two ways this plays out:

1) HCMM are overwhelmed as coaches and the team doesn't improve. Another 1-11 or 2-10 season smacks us in the mouth. CU continues to be a bottom feeder. HCMM is either canned or on the hot seat big time.

2) HCMM and the team continue to improve throughout the season. They win 4+ games and beat a team or two they shouldn't on paper. Optimism returns and the fans rally.

The question I beg of this board, why speculate/predict/diagnose/etc that option 1 is what is happening at this point in the year? What value does it add? They won't fire HCMM during the season, so why not refrain until the end of the season to go postal?

We should all hope that option 2 emerges right now. The team doesn't need negativity surrounding it and a doomsday enthusiast fan base. Who wins in option 1? You don't get a prize for being the first to light a pitchfork and make a sign. The team knows what the fan base says about them, why not be supportive instead of negativity spewing malcontents?

Watching games today showed that a lot of good teams struggled against "lesser" opponents. Ohio St, Oregon St, Iowa St, and the list goes on. One game a season doesn't make.

Flame away, haters. I will continue to root for option 2 and for the sake of the program hope that a lot of those calling for people's jobs have to eat crow.

Go Buffs!

It's Option 1, I'm afraid. If you have no talent, you have to have a coach who can recruit. Flush after the season or drag into the third? Or put your head in the sand because you don't want to hurt our WAC players egos.

I suggest letting the majority of the season play out before declaring option 1. It doesn't help anything and hurts morale...

Stop with the fire MacIntyre/MacIntyre will be on the hot seat after this year. It won't happen at any point this year, and it shouldn't. Changing coaches every two years isn't the answer, and its going to kill us even more than it already has in recruiting. If this year is that rough, maybe a coordinator leaves, but nothing more. We need to give MM a chance to get 3-4 classes of his players in here.

HCMM isn't going to be canned. It just isn't going to happen, nor should it. However, if we go 2-10, MM can either remove a few assistants and perhaps get on track, or else he'll go down with the sinking ship in '15 or '16. We just can't fire consecutive coaches after giving them 2 years. No one will want to walk into that and as disappointing as recruiting is going, another "lost class" in a transition year is something this program can't take in my opinion.

MM won't be canned but, he will have to make some changes because his talent base won't allow for more than 4-win seasons. He needs to bring in a very good recruiter or two. The facilities will help but we need a snake oil salesman that can convince a few bluechippers to join the program.
Lindgrin may need to go. Not a very impressive nor imaginative offense. Easy to defend.

could not agree more!....the revolving door of head coaches just kills recruiting and the program...any talk of getting rid of mm is crazy even if this season is a disaster.

I think you are missing the point of option #1. This is a place for buff fans to share the joys of victory with other fans as well as frustrations. If they are upset and want a new coach, it is only because they want the buffs to be successful. I have only heard of a few people say they are done watching the team for the season but the rest of us will be there every week.

So I think you need to work about the other 20k fans that it would take to fill up Folsom because they are the ones that don't spend their time reading about the buffs, posting and letting their voices be heard. Even if it is about wanting a new coach.

I guess my point is we should look for the positives right now and support the coaches and team. Save the speculation and doom for later in the year. HCMM shouldn't fire any of his assistants right now, so why demand it?

Because CU fans are dumb.

Option 2 as I am all in on over 4.5 wins  Looks bleak presently I must say.

Per HCMM getting yanked, I say changes in staff are much more likely than his job being in jeopardy. He is a winner and not gonna give up. I am smarting from Friday night but starting to look for ways for us to improve. The bad news Friday was we have a really young team (and some strange play calling). The good news is we are a really young team.... We can learn from Friday night and grow from it.

Let's give this some time before we throw in the towel here.

What is a little time amongst the CU faithful.
It seems like just yesterday Gary Barnett got blown out 70-3 in a conference championship game.
Another three...five...nine years ought to do it.

I have had season tickets since 1985 so believe me I get it. But few of my previous frustrations per coaching involved Mac II. Many of the concerns on recruiting probably have merit as you can see how a guy like Shay shines on the field almost immediately. But some of those parts are arriving, and others are evolving/maturing. No way to candy coat it, this will be challenge and most of us admitted that before the year began.

It will be easier to draw conclusions on this year when we have a bigger sample to work with.

Well every class is a "lost class" the way McIntyre recruits.

#1 concern...this team is soft. It's a four quarter game and CU played one.

There is a long list of individual contributors who have stood out on unimpressive Buffs teams...Dizon, Crosby, TWheat, Miller, McKnight, PRich... Cherry picking the good players to make your argument isn't doing it for me.

MacIntyre's CARE and Uncommon bracelets and sledgehammer isn't creating the nasty streak that CU needs to win.
This team needs to play four quarters, thrive on punishing the opponent, and instill some kind of intimidation factor.

Watching CU turtle after the failed goal line stand and then get carved up by two CSU RBs who ran up the gut at will was, in a word, unacceptable.

Generating only 17 points on offence with finesse plays against a MWC team isn't right.

MacInyre and crew failed to draw out the killer instinct in the trenches on opening day. The conclusion here is that this team is being coddled. There needs to be a bigger chip on the BnGs shoulders.

Fair and correct.

Friday's second half was painful to watch. I am curious to see how both coaches and players respond. Pretty sure if they have been coddled, and maybe they have been too soft on em, the gloves will be off now. My biggest near term concern to right the ship is how physically capable are our lineman presently.

I listened to those 3 pro scouts on the sideline at practice and drank the sauce. They were actually pretty impressed. I bought in admittedly.

I swore I wouldn't come here, but I certainly will watch the team all year. But yet..here I am. I hope the people that want to commit hari kari have done so and some sense of common sense has returned. The Buffs are not as good as I hoped, and the Rams were better than I hoped. Now I can hope they go undefeated or close to, and lose the best coach I have ever seen them have (the Rams that is). You know he is looking for a way out to a HC job in the P5. The young kids on the DL were exposed bigtime Friday night. I was hoping for 'ok' there, and if we had that I think we win. Not pounding the ball in after first and goal on the two sucked. Not thinking Lingren is a very good OC. But at the same time, I think running it was the thing to do. Just horrid to see the line open up and push guys to the ourside and still have three Rams guys sitting smack dab in the hole. QB should have seen we didn't have the numbers to match up in the middle and audibled out.

I don't think they need a majority of the season to play out, but definitely more then just the first game. We should have a very good idea where this team is after the 4th game.

Can they play competitively against Arizona State?

Will they take care of business against what appears to be a very bad UMass team? Colorado is 2-31 on the road since their last bowl game, so this may not be as much of a given as previously thought

Hawaii should be a good test as well, although they are a much different team on the road. Will interest be completely gone if CU can't do what they need to, and get a key road win?

They don't have to win all of them, but if they are 2-2, I'll feel that they have a chance to win a couple (more) conference games. If they are at 0-4, I'll join all of the other people that have conceded this season is a lost one.

The Dan Hawkins era taught me to ignore EVERYTHING player related coming out of fall camp. I don't care if it's from the HC's mouth, cubuffs.com, the Boulder or Denver media, SliderNSider, 'Tini, Nik, Duff Man, or anyone else. Any pre-season report is just rose-colored, koolaid flavored words.

The first game of the season is deeds. We all know which speaks louder.

I admit to lapsing into the trap of buying into the narrative about Dee Hart being gimpy. I also fell hook-line-and-sinker into a belief that CSU's inexperienced O-Line would be easy to exploit. Oops. Boy was I wrong. McElwain is adept at pre-game propaganda. Live and Learn.

Now that CU 2014 has been exposed as playing soft during game 1, I'll be watching for improvement in this area.
If ASU comes into Boulder on 9/13 and has their scrubs performing mop-up duty in the second half, then this season will be a write off. The bloom will have completely vanished from MacIntyre's rose. No matter how wonderful the SJSU rebuild story sounds, the honeymoon is over following this embarrassing and humiliating style of loss. I NEED to see progress. To save his job, he has to retool his approach and his staff. Adapt or die.

Losing with inferior physical talent is unfortunate but understandable. Going 4-8 but improving once again in 29 statistical areas that are football related is proof that the rebuilding work is progressing as expected. I can live with progress. Regression is failure.

THE PRIDE AND TRADITION OF THE COLORADO BUFFALOES WILL NOT BE ENTRUSTED TO THE TIMID OR THE WEAK!

I am interested to see how we do against ASU as well. Great barometer game, facing a top half PAC12 team with better talent. If we can be competitive that's a great step in the right direction. We somehow find a way to win and it could be a tipping point.

Let's just beat UMass and see the team start to take things in the right direction this week.

I'm very concerned by Friday's performance, but my psyche isn't so fragile that I'm going to react to 1 game with an assumption that there are 11 weeks of **** in front of us.

Psyche? wut?

Is that related to head, heart, or balls?

Well every class is a "lost class" the way McIntyre recruits.

Not saying we should fire him because we can't nor shouldn't, but how many of our recruits would immediately get poached by p5 teams?

Yup, a handful

Okay genius, it's easy to bitch, lots of here do it and with where this program has been for the last decade there is reason but that's the easy part.

You give us the plan. Fire M2, then what?

You tell us what coach is willing to come to CU who is going to get blue chip recruits who are also not major character risk and will be around in 3 years to come here. You tell us which coach is going come in here and turn this into a 7-9 win team in 2 years.

I'm not happy about what happened Friday night, in fact I'm pissed. That said I also have been a fan of this program since the Eddie Crowder days. I know the depths that this program has reached and I do believe that, slowly, we are crawling out of those depths but we are still in a deep, dark, ugly place. A fresh coat of paint isn't going to make things instantly better around here, there is work to do just to get ready for the work we need to do.

We lost a game we shouldn't have lost and looked ugly doing it. It was further proof of how far we have fallen. A blind man can see that aren't close to where we want to be. At the same time name the college coach who hasn't lost one that his schools fans thought he should have won.

This was one, ugly, game that nobody is happy with but that's what you get with a program in an ugly place.

I'm not saying in any way that M2 is the answer or guaranteeing that he is the one to lead us out of the mess we are in. All I am asking is before you jump of the cliff and start talking about firing people be ready to give a better answer.

I think CU's in a good position for any outcome. Nothing's going to change unless MacI does something bombastic. He might even be on a 5-year program now, with a few more bottom-contender seasons even. But if his assts persist in this, they can kiss anything but Div II or mid-level high school jobs goodbye. MacI's pretty set. They're not.
