Is something wrong with Gillam?

He's been invisible for most of the first three games. Yes, he's made a play or two, but nothing like what we saw out of him last year. Seems to have regressed. Or maybe I'm not paying close enough attention. You tell me.

He's making a ton of tackles.

But, yeah. He can't straighten his arm (elbow) and he lost about 10 pounds he couldn't afford to lose with the flu or something during camp.

He's doing what he can, but he has definitely made some pretty poor reads that have cost us. Greer and Olugbode are not helping him much, though.

I'm pretty sure I found them.

D Line hasn't been doing a very good job of keeping blockers off the LBs either. He has been fighting through a lot of traffic to get to the ball.

Should have redshirted this year, if he is truly injured.

With bad wheels, maybe. His is an elbow injury and he wears a brace, as well as recovering from stomach flu. Wasn't that far off his game, considering it was ASU...

Olugbode is making sophomore mistakes, like biting on the fake and leaving his gap wide open for Kelly on that 50 yd. TD run. Greer remains inconsistent.

That Kelly 50 yarder was also on Gillam imo. If you watch the replay, Gillam is lined up as a safety for some reason and over pursues as well. Olugbode should've made the play to begin with, but Gillam should've had his back. He went all in yolo mode for the RB and left the middle of the field wide open.

I don't get why people say stomach flu. There is no such thing. It is a respiratory virus. Can we just say he had super gonorrhea instead?

Sophomore slump is a convenient excuse for Olugbode and the coaches. The coaches chose not to really address OLB in the last class and then praised Olugbode constantly during the Spring.

Can you point to where the coaches are using that excuse?

Guy looks like he weighs about 195 pounds. He appears to have the build of an average college guy who hits the gym four days a week for about half of an hour. I'm not implying that he's lazy and I'm sure that he works way harder than that, but he needs to gain some serious weight because he is just too small for big time football.

The productivity says otherwise. I want to see him gain some weight/strength, but let's not pretend he's not a great college player as he is.

His inability to gain weight is one of the reasons I think he would make a better WILL LB. Maybe not having Watanabe hurts us this fall because he would be plenty big to play the MIKE and that would allow Gillam a chance to move to WILL.

There is no doubt that Gillam can play at this level. But our LB's are woefully light. We should have redshirted Olugbode and put weight on him. Olugbode looks like a safety. We in affect, have 4 safeties out there.

I think he would dominate at Will. He has the speed and mobility and he wouldn't have to fight through as many big blockers. You probably are right about Watanabe, he looks like a guy who will be excellent on the inside. that would only leave a question about Sam.
