Hey, it's a loss. And I know I'm the new guy but I think this deserves a thread.

here are my top 10 improvements and areas where I'm excited after tonight's game.

1) DEFENSE- our defense came alive after the 1st quarter. Finally see some tackling. It looked dismal after 17-0 but they seem better. Still porous on defense at times, but improving.

2) over 500 yards of offense. Shocked.

3) running game- a few good long runs. Anyone else miss the good ol days of Chris Brown and Bobby purify?? Great buffs. But tonight, welcome runs from Powell and Lindsay

4) student section showed up early and was making a difference. I thought it might be empty but they were there.

5) new facilities. Many empty seats over there but it's awesome seeing construction at Folsom! Loved the black seats.

6) Gehrke- I have no worries now if sefo goes down with injury. Gehrke seemed impressive in the few plays he had.

7) diehard fans- in my section you could tell the diehards have some optimism back. Sure we lost but people were optimistic in my section.

8) Philip Lindsay. Loved seeng him play.

9) Shay fields, Bryce bobo, Nelson Spruce.

10) coaching. Still some questionable calls but overall, I think the coaches got the players to believe we could do this. I think HCMM is maybe really right on when he says we are so young. I feel better about who we have as coaches now after this game. Let see some more progress next week.

Crawley...he gets it now.
Huckins...came in and did a good job at LT
McCartney & Gilbert stepped up a bit
Special Teams were better...all KOs went for touch backs...punt coverage was better.

Still need to get more speed both on O and D

Huckins came in at LG, they moved Crabb over to LT.

Shay Fields is going to be a player CU fans talk about wishing we still had for years after he is done playing football here. With Lindsay's slight frame I hope he holds up running between the tackles. That guy's got all the heart and fight in the world in him and fortunately he's fast, too. Big Huck looked slimmer than I expected him to be but held up well following the emergency substitution. Crawley is much improved. We were gashed in the run game but our DBs mitigated the damage in their area. Awuzie is my favorite player on this year's team. He just finds the ball and knows how to tackle.

We have the players. Maybe not for a bowl game this year, but soon. In 2016 when the current sophomores are seniors I expect the classes behind them to be talent upgrades who stay in the program and we have the opportunity to experience regular winning seasons again. I will agree to be patient if we see more efforts like the one tonight against Pac-12 competition and not see more drastic steps back into the dark ages.

We showed some flashes on offense tonight against the #16 team in the country, and yes, we are young. Future on O is bright.

While we aren't going to win any conference game when we have a first quarter like that, we did show some serious resolve to fight back. And this was different. In recent seasons we were applauding our guys for showing "fight" after being down 40 at halftime and then playing even with the opposition's third string guys. However, tonight we did it against the ASU regulars and put a little scare into them.

We continue to improve. As ugly as UMass was, going on the road 2,000 miles away and getting a win was an improvement over CSU, and tonight was an improvement over UMass.

For me personally, it's the first time it's ever been arguably visible on the field under MacIntyre (and Embree) that a bowl game may very well be within reach next season. We need to upgrade our talent in the worst way, but 6 wins once this group matures is feasible.

Buffs need to take confidence from this. Right things about "belief" have always been said, but tonight should be a much needed boost of confidence that we can be competitive with teams in this conference (obviously there are exceptions), especially at home.

Glad we have Hawaii next week. Perfect opportunity to build on this, get a W, and then see if we can put forth decent showings against Cal and OSU and find ourselves a Pac win.

For me the biggest positive tonight was the culmination of the last 12 months of work Rick George has put in here at CU. New stadium sections, new helmets and new beer gardens. To me, the result of the game was less important than the fact that we got to show on national television that we are serious about football again and that we will, like we once were, be a team to be feared. RG has pulled out all the stops to return Folsom to the great venue it should be.

The team playing well against the #16 team in the nation was just icing.

After Oliver booted his first ball to the back of the endzone for a touch back I think my whole section was looking at me like a weirdo for cheering so much about something so mundane.

I like the Fighting spirit. The other team was bigger and stronger, but they didn't give up. The players understand the system, that is not the problem anymore. The next step is to continue to get stronger and faster. Gillam must add weight and get to at least 235 pounds.

I hope special teams is better consistently. That was a huge improvement last night!

My expectation this year was that we would lose but by not nearly the margins we used to. This is a good first step.

If it weren't for the 3 TOs and Lindgren's inability to call a play to get us into the end zone from within the 5 yd line, we'd have won that game.

Between the second half of UMass and 2-3 quarters of this game, it looks like this very young team is getting it and believes they can win.

They are young, so not as strong as our opponents, but that will get better. I saw some good speed, especially on D, but could use more.

If we could play 4 qtrs like we did in the 2nd, and eliminate the TOs, we have a great chance of beating AZ, Utah and Cal. Even Washington looks beatable if we play like we can.

Eyepopping stat: 550+ of total offense. Holy ****!

Huck. Loved this kid from his HS film. He likes to bury people! As his capabilities reach this level, he is gonna be a pancake maker in action. I hope he continues elevate.

1. ASU didn't make us look like we are moving in slow motion. We are faster than we've been in a long time.
2. ASU's front 4 didn't control the LOS as they did last year, and they brought a LB or DB (or two) very often.
3. Our "diamonds in the rough" are generally looking pretty good. Whether it was Gehrke, Lopez, or others, I think our staff is recruiting talent they believe can play P5 football, not "SJSU" football as so many claim. Still early and the jury is out, but I'm pretty impressed with the playmaking we are seeing from a lot of young guys and also some "coaching up" of guys like Crawley and Nembot.
Lopez can flat out get after it out there and he's much more athletic than Solis. I was very impressed with his raw tools.

I don't think ASU is a top 15 program this year and their D looked silly at times. A lot of questions in the South right now (for another thread I suppose)

Holic you are spot per asu d. Somebody soon is gonna boat race these guys. We were not cooked enough yet to takem, but predict they will not finish the year top 20.

My biggest positive is that the PAC12 South is pretty wide open. ASU isn't that great. Their D is terrible. If they're the best the South has to offer, maybe our climb out of the basement isn't as daunting as it once seemed. We may pass Utah this year or next, and the Arizona's aren't intimidating at all.

ASU's defense was terrible

Isn't it great that we can finally talk about some other teams Defense being so bad and not our own??? 550+ yards offense. I can't wait for Hawaii and then Oregon State at home. (Cal is too much to hope for now. Road win inPac 12- would love it, but for now, just want the beavers!)

We'll pass Utah and upset someone else from the South

Watching the game again, McCulloch had a solid game. IF he can become a reliable middle of the field target, he has the size to be a match up problem.

1. Running game-The holes and YPC was old school Buffs football we love and what makes Buffs one of Top 5 teams with backs with 1000 yards plus
2. Secondary-Entire secondary was a reason we did well. Need more pressure!
3. Play calling-It was not same thing over and over like it felt against CSU, but a lot of misdirection we haven't seen enough of
4. The teams' fight
5. Disappointment with not getting the Win and feeling like it was there's
6. The stadium and the atmosphere (everywhere but our side-Section 120 and over is a ghost town now with the ticket questions)-Beer Gardens, Good Fans on Saturday
7. The Receiving corp-Loved them all. Was impressed by TyMac this week. Still think Bobo is a threat that needs used more. Spruce may be better than any white REC the Buffs have had... ever so quit judging his skin tone. He has added some wheels.
8. Hope being back-There is some faith that went away with that 2nd half against CSU and showing against UMass. 8 years of losing brings a positive in a 2 TD loss is funny to a Top 25 football program, but at least there is some hope and faith back.

Over the past two seasons we have seen the team sputter after a good effort or after a good game. Time gain some traction and get the engine going on this thing. Tools are there to be at least a threat to Pac-12 teams. The team is starting to believe it and I think that is the biggest improvement I saw Saturday. The team is almost un-"Hawk'd" Can feel it in the air, the buffs are getting close.

Totally agree! He's an interesting WR/TE hybrid who could really be a weapon...if he decides to hold on to easily catchable balls.

On that last interception, McC was wide open and would have scored, but Sefo was too locked in on Spruce!

As for play calling inside the 5, Powell stumbled with a clear path to the end zon, before that 4th down call that was stuffed. Couldn't tell if it was the exact same play that was blocked so well on 3rd down.

On that play, the OL had the push to get at least the 1st Down. Pow Pow just fell down.

That's some Hawk spin. We were only 3 play away from winning! Teams make plays. They caused turnovers. We didn't and haven't this year. Tough to win without any turnovers in your favor.
