O-Line Grades

There must have been some turnover in the AD with whoever calculates the o-line stats. I remember years ago watching Adkins getting blown up on the o-line, only to see a grade of 88 reported the next week. Several people used to question how the grading was calculated (including myself) because the effort never seemed to match the grade. Well, it looks as if those days are over. The offense has 261 rushing yards on 34 attempts (I have removed the sacks from the rushing stats) with only 4 carries going for negative yards (7.7 YPC). There were 57 pass attempts with 3 sacks (Irwin credited for giving up 2 Nembot with 1) and 2 QB hurries. The offense ran a total of 91 plays, and the highest grade by an o-lineman was Munyer with a 69%. Kelly had the second highest score at 61.5%. I thought this was Nembot’s best game by far, but he did not grade above his U-mass score of 55%. Seems the day’s of rolling out of bed and getting a B score are over.

I would be interested to see what has changed in how they do the calculation. I'm not sure how much Juice Box influenced the grading, but the everyone gets a ribbon mentality seemed to show up in the grades.

Interesting. I have read in articles elsewhere that Bernardi does the grading and that he is a real stickler for perfection. No grade inflation with that guy. I agree with you the OL seemed to perform WAY better on Saturday than in recent weeks and last year.

Great thread. I'd love to see how it progresses over the season. Is it too much to ask for people to avoid excessive threadjacking?

(yes, of course it is.) :bang:

To add, the OL grades were much higher after the first game (Kelley had 90%), so whatever system they are reporting has changed since then.

Threadjacking? You mean, like, guys taking a thread about the O-line and turning it into......................................... a discussion on threadjacking?

it is difficult to grade oline because there are so many diminisions to grade. start with assignment. then feet, then hands, then push, then extras/awareness, communication, success/failure. speed to block.

a lineman can take all the right steps and still fail to make the block successfully. it takes a lot of film study to grade linemen.

some coaches take the easy way and just do a couple of parameters. they grade with. + 0 - then tally the results.

Hey Fla. Why don't you leave these discussions to the experts. No offense.

In all seriousness fla, would love your thoughts on how the ol is progressing, or not

there is comedy gold here, Jerry, Gold!

I have been offensive, but the two that named a testicle after me are more on the ball.

the line play has progressed, somewhat in fits and starts, but it looked better to me on tv in the ASU game than Live at UMass, and both were better than their performance at CSU. Still can't quite hang their hats on any particular run play, but it comes together more often than not. Pass-pro is light years ahead of last year. but i don't deep study the film to really know.

when I asked coach. mac if he finished my Rhodes Scholar application he asked, "What road are you on?"

To set the record straight (so to speak), I named my testicles after Burrito's testicles which were coincidentally named after you (or at least one). Don't flatter yourself.

I'm not sure how we went from a discussion about the o line to naming conventions for testicles named after former players but I'm pretty sure this can't be unread. Curses!

I know. Every time I read about oline grades it turns into a testicular naming contest. Every time

Orr was really determined to derail the conversation into a discussion of his testicles.
