Weekly Nelson Spruce Thread

He's very good. Was basically our whole offense today.

We see each week what he does, you would think that opposing coaching staffs would.

How does a DC leave him in single man coverage like Hawaii did today.

Only 1 touchdown?!?! Dude needs to stop slacking and get his productivity back up!!!!

P12 play will show a decline in his stats IMO. That said I do believe his presence, and the respect P12 DC's will no doubt show this young man, will create opportunities for the rest of the WR corps.

We should have a "Nelson Spruce is awesome" weekly thread. I'd read

Nelson Spruce is awesome
Everything is cool when he's part of your team
Everything is awesome when Nelson's living the dream

Sefo is better when they stick together
Side by side, Buffs are gonna win forever, let's party forever
Win the game, be like Spruce, scoring TDs, Buffs all working in harmony

Nelson Spruce is great, and all
we really need to get him the ball
but until the kids step to the plate
we will suck, um, mate.

You know Nelson has reached a special place with Buff fans when a thread about him has gone past 15 posts without a single stupid, ****ty, terrible, obnoxious tree pun. Nelson is God.

That catch late in the game where he landed on his head had me worried. Looked painful, a little like the one that knocked the Utah QB out today. Spruce is tough as nails. Best hands we've had since Westbrook?

You mean like 97 yards and 2 TDs against a ranked P12 team? I'll take that decline in performance.

Dude is fugging solid. I'm a believer now. Thought he was good, not great. Now think he's damn good, almost great. If he can do well against P12 Ds then I'll be leading the bandwagon. Will end his career as the top CU WR.

Scary. Sefo's throw could have gotten him killed. I couldn't believe he was targeted again on the very next play.

Think of the yards and TDs he would have if Sefo saw him all the times he is wide open. or if he would throw it deep enough that Spruce didn't have to slow up for the ball and drift back into three defenders. BTW...how great is it that we have a good enough WR that teams put three defenders on him?

Anyone else hear the commentators talking about him. Something to the effect of "he keeps finding ways to beat guys who are more talented than him every week." I guess they didn't get the memo that he's not just a possession receiver.

I don't get the "lacks talent" thing with him. He's not a speed receiver. But he wasn't any slower than the Hawaii WR who caught 9 for 90 on Saturday and Spruce was probably faster since Nelson actually ran away from the first tackler a number of times. I don't get it. It's like what I heard all through Rod Smith's career and created a perception that's carried through to the HOF debate on him. It's only ignorant broadcasters and fans who continue to measure a WR by his 40 time, draft position or star rating after he has stepped on the field and produced. If you go back and look at Spruce in high school, there is a list of higher-rated recruits he out-performed while setting receiving records. Spruce also played CB when needed and shut those guys down. I'm not sure what the guy has to do to get the respect he deserves. If other teams want to discount him and not build game plans around stopping him, we'll all be very happy Buffs fans.

He is way more athletic than given credit for and while he does run nice routes (heard this said several times yesterday), he also has body control that all really good WRs need. You will notice he very rarely takes big hits and he also has very few, if any, negative plays.

Nice little pic of Nelson catching a TD pass in the sports section of the Sunday New York Times and a shout out as "The Day's Best." Nice to see the national coverage!
