Why will next years team be better?

The schedule is a bit easier next year. Hawaii, CSU, Nicholls State, and UMass on the non-conference schedule. There's a chance of 4-0 there. More likely 3-1.

Conference schedule remains the same. I'd expect 3-10.

Team is getting better and playing fundamental football. We will need some freshman to come in and play on D (LB!), but team will be better.

Defense should improve with a little experience and hopefully some new talent. The offense will be better with another year of experience. Special teams will only get better with a change in coaching, I'm afraid.

Number of areas.

Sefo will be better. Made a big jump this year and should again.

OL will be stronger inside. Kelly is still maturing physically and will have a years experience, Crabb back, Calahan is bound to be better than Munyer. Tackle should also be better with Irwin having another year of development. I hope we can replace Nembot.

TE has shown some signs this year and we have a freshman on a RS year who could provide, finally, a recieving threat from there.

RB we lose ToJo who has been better this year but Adkins should come back healthy, Lindsay a year stronger, and Gordon looks to be a step up talentwise.

WRs we could lose a huge piece in Spruce but we have a bunch of young talent. I love Fields as a playmaker.

Defense this year has been terrible other than the DBs. We lose Hendo which will be huge on the other hand we get a lot of young talent back including Crowley and should be much stronger at safety.

LBs we lose Webb, oh well, no big loss. Seriously Gillam is the one decent LB we have had and he is playing seriously hurt. He comes back healthy and we are automatically better. KO has talent but has disapointed this year. hope he takes a step forward. At least he should be bigger coming back. A wild card is Watanabe who could give us some solid play inside and let Gillam spend some time at Sam where I think he would dominate. We need a huge upgrade here though.

DL has also been a disaster and even if it gets better will still be lacking. Hopefully our DTs can come back healthy and a little stronger. We lose Parker but again not a huge loss based on his play this year. We have died this year with undersized first year DEs. They aren't going to be great next year but with a years experience and S&C training they should at least be better. We have seen some good improvement even this year but they still get blocked to easily and take bad angles.

Special teams is a huge question. This year we suck, plain and simple.

Part is a lack of depth of physical talent. Our roster is getting faster and stronger and more talent should be available. Unfortunately if Neinas is back next year then I expect another bad year on returns and coverage.

We lose our kicker and punter but have a punter committed who should be at least good, kicker is a big question.

Where will the improvement be?

The locker room will be much, much better.

I think so.

Team is starting to develop some attitude, at the end of the game I saw a lot of guys on the sidelines hurting. Caring is a pre-requisite for improvement.

I'm not seeing how we will really be any better until our DL/OL is playing RS JR/Sr's across the board. It is to bad because the QB play is actually decent and we have decent athletes at WR and an O.K. blend of RB's. Line play and LBs are really poor and the recruiting philosophy means we aren't going to see guys who can contribute for 3 or 4 years. When they play earlier than that you get blasted on the road by TOP 25 teams and are marginal underdogs at home. We need to hit on another QB for recruiting to line up with all the lineman that should mature in the next 3 years. Our luck is when that happens we will somehow have bad QB play.

No...I am not. what will be better?
Wait, so you're actually serious? You can't possibly see how a team who returns everything basically won't be better? this thread is a bit of a overreaction from a game against USC

The offense will be very good.

The defense will still be very bad.

The special teams will be slightly better with a new coach.

The offense could be very special next year with a decent/good running game. I really hope Gordon is the real deal.

My only hope for the defense is that Samson comes back and we bring in 3 starting linebackers in the juco ranks. Maybe true freshman. Maybe Gillam comes back healthy? I really like what we could have in the secondary with Bell. Crawley will be an all american next year. Can we find two D ends that can hold the edge?

If we don't see a shake up in the coaching staff, that's all I need to know.

If a team is far less talented than the rest of the conference, I don't see how returning a bunch of those players automatically makes us better.

I suppose some will benefit from another year in the system and the weight room, but that's no different than every other team in the conference.

Right. Long-term we will top out at 5 wins unless MacIntyre makes gains in February annually. Not holding my breath. He's not a coach that can win in the living room.

I'm officially over the "next year blah blah blah" bull****. I expected us to lose big to sc but to play this dumb after a bye really grinds my gears.
