2015 Hawaii Game

I went in 2011. It was fantastic. Unless there's a super great deal on airfare, I won't be making the trip this time. I will give the game a thumbs up on atmosphere, tailgating, etc. It's a fun place to watch a football game. The stadium itself is in dire need of renovation, and it's very unlikely that will actually happen. Just the same, it's fun to spend 4-5 days on Oahu, capped off by a football game. Fair warning - the stadium is nowhere near the actual UH campus. It has no college game-day atmosphere at all. The vibe is still pretty cool, regardless. I had some guy feed me shark. I never thought I'd eat shark. It was better than I thought it would be.

This game will be right around my anniversary... could be a great excuse to go to Hawaii... I think I could convince the wifey to tag along for this trip.

How much does airfare normally run?

I have seen it as low as $400 and much higher from there. September is usually a little cheaper, but prices right now are about $650.

If you can find a cheap flight to San Fran, you can fly out of Oakland airport for under $500

that's a very interesting choice of wording.

If you can get it for $650 you should be happy, getting it for much lower than that from Denver is pretty rare. I have read that booking your flights on a Sunday (like making the purchase on a Sunday, not departing on a Sunday) is the cheapest day of the week to book them.

Great article on when (day and days in advance) to buy your ticket. Sunday is best. On average prices bottom out 57 days before departure for domestic flights.

For perspective, I got RT tickets to HNL for $387 last time. It's not unheard-of, but it's extremely rare to find RT tickets from DEN to HNL for less than $500.

That is insane. If you ever see a ticket for that much you gotta go for it.

Not sure if I'm even on the right dates, but $1000 RT ORF-HNL. Not happening.
Living on the east coast sucks sometimes.

best I could quickly find RT from Denver is $633.60 taxes/fees included- US Air - Denver connecting through Phoenix- less than 1 hour layovers

why doesn't the Buff Club, or someone similar, put together a charter - air and hotel?

Where the heck do you live?

With attendance of about 20,000 at Aloha stadium, it doesn't take more than 15 minutes to get there from anywhere within 7 miles.

But, nonetheless. Cool.story.bro.

Haha, true about the attendance. And you caught me exaggerating . . . bodda you?

I'm in Honolulu so it is just a two hour trip for me to go the 7 or so miles to the stadium on game day #worsttrafficinthecountry

Take a boat or an outrigger, probably faster... According to the interwebs you can pull right up on Aiea Bay State beach.

Agreed on oahu traffic - it sucks

Ewa has the worst traffic on the island which has the worst (statistically) traffic in the nation.

So ya, during the week - traffic is nuts. Of course, this game could get moved up to thursday or friday and then, yes, traffic would really suck.

UH could fire Chow so maybe attendance would increase to 35k like against UW this year.

Usually I take the $2 shuttle from LCC and it takes no more than 1/2 hr from my house to my seat.

And, no I don't really care about your exageration because 15 minutes was equally exagerated the other way. Hell, it can take 15 minutes to drive around the lot looking for a parking stall.
