So if you were Rick George....

I think it's pretty awesome that we have Rick George as AD. In his short time here, we've got construction crews building the stadium upgrades and facilities we've needed for years. Last week there was an article in BuffZone where he talked about the attendance and it's clear he sees we do need to WIN. So nice to hear that after the incompetent decisions by our admin in the past as they watched CU football crash and burn (like forcing us to endure Hawkins for that 5th season despite clear signs of failure and disgust from the fans, etc.)

I feel really good that we finally have a leader who knows how to fix CU, especially Cu football. I wish I could sit in on the meeting between RG and HCMM at the end of the season.

Some people here think we need to fire assistants. Some think the staff should stay intact. Some people see progress and are optimistic (like me) and others think we've regressed. Some think were doomed to the bottom of the Pac 12 forever.

I gladly will will let a Rick George decide what to do. He need to fill the seats, so I think we won't just have an AD who let's things slide if any changes need to be made. He sees the inner workings and I'm sure has some ideas of what needs to be done, right?

But if you were Rick George, what grade would you give HCMM? Would you leave him alone to rebuild this his own way or would you encourage or even force him to make staff changes? and to what position coaches would you want him to make changes? Would you put pressure on HCMM to produce next year or give him a pat on the back for what he has done this season??

I hope he leans on Mac to make a coaching change or two in order to improve recruiting. I'm going to withhold my donation of Neinas is coaching next year, or send a few more hundred the day he is fired and replaced with someone more capable.

I'd give Mac an A-. Not that the Ws have earned him that, but I am grading in light of the fact Mac inherited a complete and utter **** sandwich and in his second season we are competitive in all but one of our games in what I think is the second toughest division in college football. Not to say there isn't some changes that could be made, but he and his staff have really begun turning this thing around. Now we just gotta get the Ws.

+1.

I like the Bobby Bowden quote that (awful) Pac-12 network crew used during the game yesterday (paraphrasing from memory)
"First you lose big, then you lose close, then you win close, then you win big".

We are losing close right now (in year TWO). This is progress (a LOT of progress actually...and anyone who doesn't think so is kidding themselves about how "burned to the ground" this program was). Mac has every incentive in the world to get things right (assistants, recruiting, etc.) without micromanagement from us or anyone. It's his ass on the line if it doesn't work. And so far, with a team consisting of very few players any other Pac-12 schools wanted, he has us in the "losing close" stage.

That's as good as any realistic prognosticator would have bet on if we were having this discussion the day Embree was fired and we were talking about what we wanted the new coach to achieve. Let's be honest.

I do not believe it is RG's job to dictate to Mac what to do with his staff. It is his job to evaluate and critique Mac. It is Mac's responsibility to make personnel decisions related to his staff.

You cannot separate the two though really. I doubt RG is going to personally evaluate every assistant, but it's not like you can have an honest conversation about the direction of the program (on-field and recruiting) without some discusdion of staff changes.

Where they intersect, I think, is that RG has to fill the seats to make revenue. Empty seats=lost revenue and more financial strain. So RG could very easily think what many here do- the defense needs help and changes should he made. 10 years ago and even more recently, it was ok for the admin to dismiss the obvious problems. Now the stakes are so much higher that I don't think RG can wait around without getting involved in the program and he very hands on.

I see the AD's job like the GM's job in the NFL...working with the coach on building the staff and building talent. The AD is ultimately responsible for what's on the field, so he should be involved as much as feels is necessary to be successful.

We want a Kraft not a Jerry Jones type.

You guys have low standards

Says the guy who picks the fugliest chix to post on his profile......and then shows no proclivity toward growing an actual brain.

Check out the model for rebuilding, Buffs are right on schedule.

Anybody who bases his life's moods or attitude on the actions of a bunch of 18-22 yr. olds, needs to have his head examined.

I'm along for the ride: up or down, it remains fascinating.

Slider would have pooh-poohed Apple because "who needs a personal computer anyway"?

^^This^^ I think we all expected to beat CSU and win 1 conference game, which is still possible. I remember I expected about that, but for the team to be more competitive...which we are. I see the rebuild as being on track...everyone needs to remember the Herculean task RG and MM have in rebuilding a program that was not even a good FCS team 2 years ago. To me, given the lack of talent, the youth, lack of facilities and 7+ year history of sucking that defined this program in 2012, we are doing as well as can be expected.

Maybe RG will require Mac to submit an action plan, haha. Actually, I'm sure they will sit down and go over the season and what went wrong and what went right. Wouldn't be surprised if they discussed the staff and set goals and expectations for next season.

Not just changes, but there could be some guys in line for raises.

Attendance won't be any better next year. We have had six games of absolute perfect weather this year. The number of season tickets sold isnt going to increase after this disaster of a season. Walk-ups will only increase with wins, but that's a lagging stat. A .500 record doesn't inspire people. We are a long way from a .500 record. The casual fan is lost.

Attendance should be better with what should be a better 2015 team with more preseason excitement plus additional stadium improvements focused on the fans.

I believe we have met the bare minimum of reasonable expectations this season, so I'd give him a C for this year so far. Still some time left to bring it up, but we've done no more than the minimum to this point IMO.

I have a 12-pack of your favorite beer that says attendance will be worse next year than this.

I signed up for season tickets this fall. I have plans to renew. Im betting on the future because I see a difference between now and Embree/Hawkins.
