George King Redshirting

I have a weird hunch he's going to become a monster rebounding machine. Maybe better than Dre.

Very interesting.

Initial thoughts:

- I texted some people that I liked King in the scrimmage I saw. Tad must also see something or he'd graduate him ASAP (or push him out as a transfer by jerking him around on minutes).

- This suggests that King has gained some maturity and will be able to deal with a redshirt year. I don't think he could have handled it last year.

- This is a very good thing for class balance.

- This is a very good thing for getting to rotations more quickly.

- 2015-16 is going to be a real pain in the ass for Tad when it comes to minutes.

He addressed that. Said they didn't have the depth to do it.

Not buying that. Depth at King's position is no different this year than last. More likely, Tad wasn't sure he wanted to keep King around for a 5th year.

I don't think he knew who he could trust on the court until they had played a few games. Threw them into the deep end and if they drowned, he'd be pushing them out quicker. In King's case, I think there's a lot of raw potential, so Tad is now willing to invest more. I misread how raw he was in the one closed practice that I had feedback on. Crow eaten. He was awful in games.

Even after reading through the responses, I still don't understand this move.

Seems like the consensus then in a nutshell is: King has legitimate upside potential, but needs to work on his game some more.

fify. He's got a lot of natural athleticism and a feel for scoring, but the skills and game sense are far from ready.

Huge hands, good length, plus athleticism and an ability to play/guard 3 positions. One of the best 1-on-1 players on the team. After Ski, maybe the best rebounder for his size on the team. That's the potential. The issue is that he's not fundamentally sound and he hasn't gotten over high school mode of basically being the man playing 1 against 5.

Can't say that I'm not shocked, but I've heard very good things about King's athletic ability. Here's hoping for another year in the system is what he needs to "get" the team game.

I think RSing after playing a year is better than doing it right off the bat.

I was walking behind King today in between classes. The dude is big, everything about him is proportionally big. I'm kind of a tall guy, and he didn't really tower over me like Josh and the others do, but man his hands could probably palm my entire face. I like King a lot and I really hope that this year does him good and we see Dre #2 as soon as next year.

A whole year working against Josh Fortune'll larn him some ball!

Tad has never tried to push out/early graduate a player. Not his style

Thanks for the insight.

Sounds like he has like Dr. J hands, Jesus.

Can you say class balance? Coach didn't want all these guys in the same class:

Gordon
King
Fortune
Fletcher
Thomas
Hopkins

As long as you're not this guy, I feel good about this update:
